That would be nice. It certainly deserves to be restored.

Here they are:

I like the one with piano the most. It looks like it was done with most care and attention to detail (all of Fagin's dogs are in it). The piano kinda sympolizes the memorable role of the songs (most notably the "Why Should I Care" song where Dodger rides an air-lifted piano while singing) in the movie. It just rocks. <3

I just have to share this banner I found somewhere on the web because of the rare artwork on it.

^^^That is cool and creative! I've never seen that particuliar artwork before I found that pic today.

I bought my copy of "Wall-E" today (finally), and on the little booklet with upcoming movies it says that this movie is being released on December 16th... was that the original date... or is that the new date? Orrr what's going? When is this movie being released?

Oliver and Co. is singularly ugly in the history of Disney Animated Features, and this was intended -- the cityscapes are adorned with polluted yellows, and a grey pallet that looks like month-old spoiled milk -- the modern equivalent of the nightmare London described by Dickens in Oliver Twist.

You talk about a Sleeping Beauty level restoration. Thing is, Oliver and Co. is filled to the brim with rushed line work, off-model animation, forced and awkward staging, low budget f/x animation and that aforemention ugly color pallette...how sharp and vivid do you want to see that in high-definition? It's no mystery to me why this isn't going to be a Blu-Ray release anytime soon. Blu-Ray would make the film's low-budget art and (intentionally) ugly colors that much more apparent, just as it made the exquisite visuals of Sleeping Beauty look that much more glorious.

Oliver and Co. doesn't need a restoration -- the film is only twenty years old and the prints are in good shape. But even the best re-mastering job in the world can't correct the line work, generic character designs, and other issues. Look at those kittens with heads the shape of bowling balls in the film's opening sequence. High school animators can do better than that.

Like Robin Hood or any film, people have nostalgic feelings for the film, but nostalgia aside, its a sloppy piece of work from early Katzenberg-era Disney. High-def's only going to make it look worse.

I've never seen either of these pictures, but they're both well-done. If only the piano picture couldn't have been the VHS cover--it's my favorite of the three.

I agree. Movies with many errors look even more sloppy the more defined they are. But I'm forgiving on the movie, as the animation department was in disarray at that time, I think? That definitely shows in TLM and Beauty and the Beast as well (I think TLK onward, they got pretty consistent in animation quality again).

Personally, I don't have much nostalgia for the film (I only ever liked the parts with Georgette/Bette Midler), but I always enjoy it when I watch it. Tito and Francis are hilarious.

Well, then the last DVD release should suit you fine, as it looks better than the theatrical prints I saw in both releases. And really, there's not a whole lot more you can do with the film.

That's been up since the press release went out leading off with "for the First Time EVER in High Definition!"

WDHE replied by email that the plans for the February release are for DVD only.

I think so too though if it were mine I'd have it in color. :D By the way, I can't distinguish who it is between Cruella and Ursula because there isn't enough detail.

It's the aforementioned Horned King.

I actually made it in color first, but I use the black/white because it feels more 'classic' to me. And, yeah, I should definitely have lightened The Horned King moreso, and I just might do that later, but I think the fact that he's a bit less iconic than the others might be part of the reason it's harder to realize who it is (btw, they're in chronological order). I actually thought Jafar would be harder to distinguish when I first made the banner.

Okay. Sorry, everyone else. I'd just like to say that the cover to this edition is pretty great, even if I don't intend to buy it.

That means that either Disney think looking at a flat graphic is a game, or that the BBFC are on drugs. :P
