Metal: A Headbanger's Journey documentary last night

An incredibly depressing John Singleton movie, Baby Boy (2001). I thought a lot of the messages got mixed up, some of the acting was unconvincing, and a lot of the writing only tried for a bare minimum of what each scene could achieve. But it was still emotionally powerful, disturbing, and well-acted. C+

Unlikely Angel - A holiday made-for-TV movie with Dolly Parton. A friend of mine owns it (she's probably the only person in the world ) and we decided to watch it, with tomorrow (well, technically today) being the first of December and all. Not great, but definitely not bad. If I ever come across a copy of the DVD, I'll probably pick it up.

Mr. Brooks - It was awful and Demi Moore can't act. I refuse to say anything more.

Ferngully: The Last Rainforrest (1992)

Snowball Express - one of the funnier live-action films from the Disney studios. It was a lot of fun, and we all laughed a lot.

The Thin Man goes home

Absolutely fabulous. One of the funniest of them all.

I just watched The Haunted Mansion (2003). After reading the original script, for when this movie was planned back in the early 90s for theaters and 1998 for a TV movie. I found that the original script was much more consistant and enjoyable than the final movie, but I still enjoy most aspects of the finished product. the art direction, costumes, make-up, special effects are all great, and I love the characters from the Mansion (Emma and Ezra in particular) but I really don't care for Eddie Murphy. Not only is he awful at dramatic acting (just watch the scene where he is "upset" over his wife's death) he's just not that fuuny. Two different alternatives I would have liked are, just have the mother and the two kinds and have her change in character from a workaholic parent to someone who realizes that she truly loves her kids, or, replace Eddie with Dean Jones and have it like the Disney comedies of the 70s. If Don Knotts had been in the final film like he was sapposed to be (before they dropped his character of the gravekeeper) that would have also helpted.

Also, since IMDB, Box Office Mojo and wikipedia all say that the films original running time was 99 min, what was cut? that adds up to 11 min of missing footage (one of which is on the DVD) that may have helped the movie.

I caught the middle and ending of Cinderella III - after Prudence's scenes - on television. It was on Toon Disney.

That's a Disney DTV that I actually was really impressed with, including its animation. I think it's worthy of theatrical exhibition.

Anyway ... two days ago I watched Snakes on a Plane, and I have two words for it: utter rubbish. Now I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to movies, but this sucked big time, like when the guy in the toilet is yelling "Get off my dick! Get off my dick!"

Julian you are the third person that I have read that says there was dialogue during the scene in restroom in "Snakes on a Plane". They must have a different version of the movie outside of the US, because there is no dialogue in the movie when the snakes attack the guy taking a leak, and the couple who are trying to get it on - just loud screams, and the guy running down the aisle of the plane screaming.

I, for one, think that "Snakes On A Plane" - at least the version that I saw five times in the theater, and own on DVD, is the most fun a person can have for a couple of hours. If it weren't for Samuel L. Jackson and Julianna Margulies this movie then may have been 'utter rubbish', but I think have a couple of class actors like them in this movie saved it from being a very stupid movie.

Hmm ... this is interesting. I'm positive the guy said "Get off my dick." when the snake grabbed his thingy. The DVD I was playing was a rental, and I'm almost sure it was a Region 1 disc, since I remember the trailers with the green warning MPAA screens at the beginning of the DVD. Most shops in Malta get Region 1 DVDs even though we're technically a Region 2 PAL zone.

Therefore, shouldn't the copy I was viewing be the same as yours in the US? Curious ... very curious ...

Dario Argento's Phantom of the Opera (1998)
Argento's weakest film to date, there's nothing special about this movie. Expect for maybe the piece of music right at the end. There really isn't even anything to say about the movie. Nothing resonated. The special effects were bad, the dialogue was bad, the acting was underwhelming, the drama was unconvincing. Just watch Batman Returns and skip this. D+

Finally watched almost all of

Bringing Down the House (2003) ...

What can I say? It was basically very well-made, cute, Queen Latifah was likeable, the writing wasn't completely terrible, and... it was better than Legally Blonde. Some of the humor was too embarrassing for me to continue watching the screen (except with my hands over my ears),
but I've seen much worse. B


And speaking of LB, I watched about 45 seconds of that musical version on MTV...
Traumatizingly bad. F, easy!

Just when you thought it was impossible...a movie so good that it single-handedly restores your faith in the quality of filmmaking! Muriel's Wedding is that film. May be over a decade old, but it's an outstanding film in every single way a film can be. If only they could make movies like this again. What the hell happened to filmmaking?? Watch this and remind yourself there used to be greats. A+

Bambi 2
It's not as good as the original IMO, but it was still great when compared to other sequels that have been done so far. I saw it on Toon Disney last night. The animation is nice and smooth. Some of the dialogue was touching. B+

I watched "You Wish!" on Disney Channel last night- it was one of the only DCOMs that I hadn't seen yet. I thought that it was great! It was very entertaining!
