Thanks for the heads up, Anthony! I was really hoping that with the film's success, New Line would give it a 2-disc set, and it's good to see that they will. I can't wait to see the cover art and more detailed specs.

WHOO HOO! Sign me up for the 2-Disc edition!

:party: :party:

Thanks for posting! Other than Big Brother being on, you made my night! :D I'm especially looking forward to the audio commentaries. Hopefully they're worth listening to.

Wow, great news! That's a much earlier release than I had been expecting (maybe because I just saw it in theaters for the third time a little more than a week ago). Great to know we'll be able to own the movie so soon... and on 2-disc DVD, no less! Very excited to see more on this...

Does anyone know if scenes were filmed for "Come So Far (Got So Far to Go)" or "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now"? If so, I'm hoping to see those on the DVD.

Don't think so. The reason Mama was cut was because they couldn't figure out how to make it work without split-screen, and Come So Far sounds to me like it was always intended as the "credits summary of the themes for Oscar nom" song, rather than something that would have been integrated into the body of the film.

Wow, just a few hours after I post that I'm looking forward to the cover and full specs, DVDActive grants my wish. http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/hairspray.html

* Commentary from Director Adam Shankman, star Nikki Blonsky and Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron
* Deleted Scenes with Audio Commentary
* All-new Musical Number, “I Can Wait”
* You Can’t Stop the Beat: The Long Journey of Hairspray Documentary
* Dance Instruction Featurette
* Hairspray Extensions Featurette
* Roots of Hairspray Featurette
* Jump to Song Feature
* Theatrical Trailer

I like the covers for the 2-Disc, but I'm hoping the actual insert sleeve for the DVD is a mix between the two since it's been confirmed that the "kids only" and "adults only" covers are actually part of a slipcover.

One thing I love is if you look at the pics for the giftset, they reveal the disc art: two records. That's a really nice touch, in my opinion.

It is disheartening to see that, unlike Warners and Fox, the single-disc edition has no extras at all and reserve them all for the 2-disc edition. They could've kept the commentary and trailer as to not leave casual fans out who don't have the extra money to pony up for the 2-disc edition.

And there's an error on the DVD Times listing for the movie -- they say that the movie will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen (when actually it's in the 2.35:1 scope format). And secondly, the single-disc erronsly states that there will be both widescreen and full-screen formats available on the disc (when the single-disc cover has the widescreen banner on it).

So, there will be separate full-screen and 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen single-disc editions with no extras, and a loaded 2-disc widescreen-only edition available.

DVD Times is reporting that the cover sleeve for the 2 Disc SE is actually reversible.

Glad as I am to hear that the cover is reversible (assuming that's so), it bums me out that the cover art for the one disc is my favorite. Boo.

I know what you mean, I prefer the single disc art much more too.

I'm really excited for these bonus features. Hopefully the featurettes are a little meatier than the HBO special I have recorded. I'm also hoping we get some good looks at the Broadway show.

I love the cover art, especially if it ends up being a reversible slip-cover, as ichabod reports.

On Broadwayworld, someone said the slip cover was a lenticular image that shifted between both adults and kids. Assuming that's true, could be okay.

Do you think they'll include the footage of Nikky receiving the news about the part? I think that might have been one of the best behind-the-scenes peaks I've ever gotten. It was really touching and I'm hoping we'll see it on the DVD.

I'll be picking up the 2-Disc edition. I thought the cover art for the poster was very well done. Honestly, the 2-disc art is just awful, I hope they change it. Can't wait to see the bonus features. :D

Well, it seems that Warner Home Video has an ongoing trend with their dual-releases. If their single-disc editions are completely bare save for the actual movie, there's a very good chance there won't be any previews that play after you load the disc in, just the FBI warnings and then the main menu loads. (But if there is even a trailer included as the bonus feature on the single-disc edition, most of the time there are previews that play before the menu loads.)

Warners did this with Superman Returns and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (and probably Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), so maybe New Line will follow the same practice with Hairspray.

Is everyone sure that 1.85:1 is really the aspect ratio? I saw clips of the movie on TV, and the movie in theaters and I could have sworn it was 2.35:1.

Edit: IMDB says it's 2.35:1, so somethings not right here!
