my niece and nephew wouldn't probably even notice a single disc edition, since they would only care about the movie, but I WANT a 2 DISC edition! I love special features and I want the trailers.

I spent good money so far this summer (though I've only seen the movie twice  ) to see the movie. And I was looking forward to a good dvd set packed with a TON of extras. Bloopers, featurettes, trailers, etc.

Hey, I only saw it once (but I saw Pirates 4 times so far. :P ).

I live in Indianapolis where we just hosted the Brickyard 400. Out in front of the track was a tent with cardboard standups of Lightning and Sally. They had cool misting fans and kiddie pools full of cold water bottles they were giving away. They also gave me a Cars bumper sticker. The peel off paper on the back has a $3 manufacturer's coupon for the Cars dvd. So now it's stuck to my fridge, just waiting until November.

Here's a few BBFC listings. It gives the running time of the Mater and the Ghostlight short. I have no idea what the untitled means. Perhaps it means trailers (most likely for other DVDs)?

00:04:21:06 ONE MAN BAND
00:06:49:01 MATER AND THE GHOSTLIGHT
00:04:06:20 (UNTITLED)

Maybe it's a documentary telling where they got the idea for Mater and the Ghostlight from.

Maybe, but I doubt it. With it having only one disc, there probably won't be any extra featurettes like that. What was rumored is most likely all we'll get. I'm guessing it's previews, like Wonderlicious said.

I really hope that as many people as possible sign MM1's petition, and I for one have put it in my signature at every message board I frequent, including this one. I suggest anyone else who wants a two-disc set for Cars should do the same.

Cheers,

A relevant FYI for those who don't read the front page or who don't look at the weekly charts....

Cars is on sale for $15.98 (47% off SRP) at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... eimprovemz

Based on the recent list price fiasco, it might not be a bad idea to lock in that low price in case things return to the way they were. Besides, I don't think any US retailer will beat that price by more than a dollar on release date, and once tax figures into the equation (as well as gas, time and holiday crowds), Amazon wins, provided you don't live in one of the states that Amazon charges tax and that you can find something else that you were planning on getting to qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping.

Perhaps the lack of 2 disc sets for Chicken Little, and the lack of 2 disc re-releases for Lilo and Stitch and Tarzan, even though the latter two have special feature complete are signs of a trend... of which Cars is just the latest victim.
But what about the initial release of Narnia? They released a regular and a 2-disc version.... So did they announce they were going to release a 2-disc version of Lilo and CL? Perhaps they've decided to test-market every release from now on by only doing a 1-disc and seeing how strong the sales are.

I am in the camp with Luke/Timon Pumbaa and others that a small band of internet activists refusing to buy the DVD is not going to make an impact. While I fully understand and respect everyone here who choses to boycott the double-dip market model, you will not only have to let Disney know that you are boycotting (since your small lack of sales won't be noticeable) but you will have to come up with a good reason (ie $$$) for why they should change their marketing model.

As mentioned, I have to order 4 copies for Xmas no matter what version Disney releases. I went ahead and used Luke's link, so at least UD benefits from the purchase. :D

Just my own thoughts on this subject. I think it is dumb to not buy the DVD release when it comes out. There are so many places you can trade in your DVD's when AND IF a 2-disc version comes. Why deprive yourself of seeing this movie as many times as you want by not owning it on November 7th? Renting it only makes you spend more money on it. Look for the best price, be it on-line, or at Best Buy or Wal-Mart or wherever and pick up a copy. It is not the breaking the back price that you think it is. Best price on line is less than $16, and if you look around at your local stores I bet you will be able to find it for less.

Boycotting is not the answer, it only wastes a lot of time and costs a lot of money. If everyone refused to buy "Cars" on the release date because it is not a 2-disc set, guess how high the price will go when the 2-disc set comes out.

Double-dipping is not a sin................it is a way of collecting your movies. There is always room for an upgrade. Look how many of you bought the original "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and then last year they came out with a Special Edition that everyone I saw said, "Cool, now I can trade in my old version and get the new one!"

Or you can do what I did, although I don't really condone it, I am just really in love with this movie and can't get enought of it, buy a bootleg copy. Mine is pretty darn good, it is a 'film-chain' copy with a great Dolby 5.1 soundtrack. It doesn't have any extras except for "One Man Band", but what the heck until the legitimate release comes out, this one will due. Besides I needed something to test my new Blu-Ray player with.

If we are as statistically insignificant as you say, then the chances of a 2-disc release remain the same whether we buy the single-disc version or not. Personally, I have enough great movies on my shelf that I do not mind waiting for a better edition of Cars. That $16 or whatever will be available to me for other things during the next year, so I come out ahead.

Ahhhh, yes.........but you still won't have "Cars" to watch like those of us who want to own it now! And are you really willing to take the chance that there will be a 2-disc edition?

Well if it works like most other DVDs, there will be a "Collector's Edition" 2-disc set. And then later on a "Special Edition Collector's Edition" 3-disc set, and then later on an "Ultimate Collector's Fully Restored (w/unseen footage) You Got To Have This or Die Edition" 6-disc set, etc.... LOL!

DVDs are like cars. If you don't buy one because there will be a newer/better one next year you will never buy one. There is always the possibility of a better one coming out.

If I were you people, I would buy it now. It's less than $20.00. And then later on if they have a special edition come out you can decide then if you want to get that or whatever.

James :)

First of all, Bill, it is not dumb for those of us who want a proper release, to not buy the single-disc edition. That is our right, and our decision. Why spend money on something that is not going to be exactly what you want? It would be dumb to buy the single-disc release, when, in all likelihood, a Two-Edition will be released. We would have spent good money on something we don't want, only to spend more money to get exactly what we want down the road. It doesn't make sense.

I can see why studios are releasing more and more double-dips. There are so many people willing to snap up whatever they release, no matter how many versions they release it in. I'm guilty of it, in a few cases, myself. However, I've grown tired of it, and unlike some people, I don't have unlimited funds waiting for me to spend it on whatever I choose.

I admit that the petition may not make any difference, and it may all be a big waste of time. However, at least I am standing up for what I believe in, and am not just bending over, waiting to take whatever they dish out.

Yes, we are statistically insignificant because we are the only ones who even know about the double-dip market model (at least I am convinced of this). The average consumer is not even aware that Disney would be planning a re-release as a 2-disc down the road, and if they are, they are more than happy to consider (or not consider) buying the 2-disc later, if it does come out. They won't hold the 2nd release against Disney or be angry about this, as many here in the forum are. They are going to buy the 1-disc this holiday season, come hill or high-water, because they need to fill that Xmas stocking with THIS DVD. That is just how the average uninformed consumer operates.

And what Brandon says is true, and I've no qualms with those who feel they know the 2-disc is coming and don't want to buy it twice and plan to wait it out. I think that is a good plan of action, but I, like DVDjunkie, can't wait for a 2-disc, so of the 4 that I ordered, 1 of the copies is for me. :D Plus I may not upgrade to the 2-disc, later. I didn't with POTC and I've no plans to go out and buy another version of Narnia (I already bought the 2-disc deluxe version when it came out).
Timon/Pumbaa fan wrote: If you know there's going to be a double dip and will pass on the DVD, that's fine (that's exactly what I'm planning on doing) and if you love the movie so much and can't wait, then you can easily buy and, in a way, support the 2-disc set.
And this is a the best way to look at it, I think. And MadonnasManOne and MagicalWands creating the petition and urging people to call or email Disney, at least lets Disney know that we are not happy about having to buy the DVD twice and opens a possibility that they will consider our position in the future, so I think all these approaches are good ones.

I can see that some collectors want to own all the versions that get released, whereas it appears most UDers here just want to own the "ultimate" version of the DVD.
dvdjunkie wrote:Or you can do what I did, although I don't really condone it, I am just really in love with this movie and can't get enought of it, buy a bootleg copy.
Didn't know there were bootlegs out - I assume these are people who are recording off the bit torrent sites, packaging them and selling them on Ebay - which is a pretty dangerous occupation.
dvdjunkie wrote:Besides I needed something to test my new Blu-Ray player with.
I know this is off-topic, but wow, DVDjunkie so you jumped right in with a purchase of a Blu-Ray player? So what is coming out in that format that you can play on that? Have you been able to purchase any movies made for BluRay? How's the quality of that when you view non-HD quality DVDs on there?

Now I still stand by the petition, but remember what we could really lose here. I would much rather have a 1-disc now and a 2-disc later that both include the scene the train organization wants to cut, than only a 2-disc release with the scene deleted.

I'm sure that's a non-issue.
