I've decided after the Halloweentown Trilogy to take a long long break from doing more Disney Ultimate Editions. As fun as they are making them, once I finish the damn thing, and after awhile of reading them, they all pretty much say the same thing to me: A movie with too many hours of bonus features. It depresses me too much to actually make up these things, and then remember that the real thing is nowhere near as good. Plus, my format is easily adaptable, as evident by probably half of Sequel's Ultimate Editions.

I just wish I hadn't burned out on Halloween Trilogy. Had hoped to tackle a definitive edition of a few of my favorites like Beauty and the Beast, Chicken Little, and Mary Poppins. Also, I always wanted to actually finish the menus for The Black Hole that I did back in early October, and do more for others in my Ultimate Edition specs. But those take more time for me to do, as I'd cap the film and work on image effects to make it look close enough to a real menu.

This somewhat applies to the less-popular non-Disney Ultimate DVD thread as well. I've written loads of Ultimate Editions in a notebook, but haven't transcribed them here simply because after awhile, they've all become formulaic and there's nothing that distinguishes one release from another. With the Ultimate DVD thread, it gave more free reign over movies to pick (a much huger movie library), and ways to present the film. I probably still do Ultimate Editions there, but they'll be fewer and far between as I want to make sure any additions to that little-read thread will truly be a somewhat different release that's not so formulaic.

I like to consider the Legend and Dune UE's my magnum opus from that thread, while here, that honor goes to four: The Black Hole, The Rocketeer (3.0), Peter Pan, and Aladdin Trilogy. I just wish I could have churned out a few more Disney ones before taking this break.

Escapay

Two live-action:

One would be SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH (DR. SYN ALIAS THE SCARECROW) in two formats: the full-length movie version and the three parts exactly as presented on WALT DISNEY'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLOR with the opening titles, Walt's intro, the previews, and credits (WORLD OF COLOR theme intact).

Patrick McGoohan has said of all his projects the ones he was personally most proud of were THE PRISONER, THOMASINA, and DR. SYN, so I wish he might lend, if not commentary, then at least a small interview. I know he doesn't like to do them, though, so...long shot. At least a profile of McGoohan!

Perhaps Sean Scully or any of the younger members of the cast still around could do some commentary? Also, something on the famous "Scarecrow" song, feature about the costume, some background on the historical situation and the history of Dymchurch (a real place where smuggling was done), the original Thorndike novel (quite inappropriate for a Disney movie!) and the different CHRISTOPHER SYN novel the SCARECROW story was taken from, and how the John character was originally "Jenny," the situation I believe one DR. SYN comics preserved.

The other would be a complete set of GALLEGHER as broadcast, with interviews of Roger Mobley (he's now a minister after having served in Vietnam (special forces) and worked as a police officer!), Harvey Korman, and Peter Graves. A feature on Mobley, who was a very popular kid actor at the time, including some of the other films he did for Disney (EMIL AND THE DETECTIVES, FOR THE LOVE OF WILLADEAN). A feature on character actors John McIntire and Jeannette Nolan, as well as a tribute to the versatile Edmond O'Brien. Something about the creator of the Gallegher character, Richard Harding Davis, who was a war reporter among other things. A feature about the gaslight era, a spotlight about the Gallegher theme song.

I'm just doing movies that I think need a better DVD treatment. I personally didn't know that you did each of these movies. I didn't even finish my Fantasia DVD, yet. So sorry, but these are just movies that I think need a better DVD. I've noticed that you have done an Aristocats DVD after I had already posted mine. So ha, we are even!

While I'm not sure exactly what all I would have on the DVD, I know it would be an amazing release of The Sword in the Stone with commentary and original trailers, etc.
Also as a side note, when I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be coming up with a DVD about UD. Oh well, this is a fun topic too!

Well, my magnum opus has changed and even though I said I'd take a break from this thread, I knew I had to get this one over and done with before I really take my break. So I present, after four or five days of development, the ultimate edition of the ultimate animated classic. Six whole discs, 2 CDs, and a badass amount of materials that aren't even DVDs!

Some notes before you read on:
-There is no storyboard gallery due to a special feature that's prominent in Ghibli DVDs.
-Ditto Rough/Clean-Up Pencil Animation Galleries.
-Some stuff from the Platinum Edition had to be dropped.
-There is no full performance of any of the Broadway Shows because stage shows aren't meant to be captured once and have that be called the definitive version available.
-I would have done menus (like I started doing for The Black Hole) but I simply don't have the patience to do so.
-Ditto custom Cover Art, though I do provide visuals that help the reader.

I hope I will not regret returning to this thread later on and that some people have learned their lesson. I hope that any future posts after mine will not contain anything remotely similar to descriptions and names for bonus features, packaging, banner names, etc. From now on, if any of my new descriptions or featurettes are copied and slightly modified for someone else's set, I will pull out once again, and simply ignore that user's messages on the boards. It's not my thread, but I'll ask Sequel to once again ask for it to be closed, to further prevent more acts of plagiarism.
