Hm..maybe Ariel's mother was a human named Melody who was on a ship which was wrecked. Both she and her locket (engraved with her name) were flung into the ocean. Triton, a younger merman at the time, was swimming around and picked up the locket and then seeing Melody drowing saved her. When she woke up she saw him, a beautiful merman. She was both baffled and lovestruck. He then turned her into a mermaid and they conceived Ariel. Ursula then heard about Melody who was longing to be back with her former human-brethren, so she coaxed her into selling her voice to get legs, and then, seeing as she had no small crustacean or fish friends to help her swim up to the surface, she drowned. Ursula then transformed herself, using Melody's stolen voice into Melody and tshe tried to steal the trident from Triton and then Sebastian accidentally broke her "new" necklace, in which then Melody's voice was regained (even though she was..dead and all) and Ursula was banished from the kingdom for eternity. Ariel then, strangely had a mysterious longing for the sea-- inherited from her mother --but Triton, seeing as how his loving wife was killed by her yearning to go back to the land, forbid her of ever going up to human world.

And then, you know a little edit here and there and you're got...

I have my doubts that Ursula had anything to do with Ariel's mother's supposed death. Why? Well, considering Triton's temper, does anyone honestly think he'd let off the witch who killed his wife with a simple banishment? He near blasted her through a rock just for messing with his daughter. He would've killed her if she murdered his wife.

I have to say, EXCELLENT IDEAS The Little Merman. I swear, I think that is so much hotter than what they'll come up with, but you never know. But please explain some things (which is what you might have meant with editing it here and there):

That locket had a bubble that showed Atlantica, so why would a human have it?

Why wouldn't King Triton turn her back into a human temporarily, to visit the human world once in a while? This was before he hated humans, or after he hated humans?

King Triton gives his dead wife's locket to Ariel's new baby as a gift? Maybe he enchanted it with his trident to make that bubble...

Not to mention, you completely ignored the fact that Morgana's eyes appear during the storm in the trailer, showing that she'll probably be causing the ship's demise.

Yet, very nice ideas. I really enjoyed reading your story, and I got excited!

which is why i believe it was a human who hurted the mother. If you have listen to Triton's quote on the humans, they were all negative. He also was worrying more about humans than Ursula.

I just watched "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea" for the first time since 2001. The recent PE got me in the mood and all of the talk about the third made me want to re-visit it for whatever reason. I was 16 at the time and wasn't nearly as knowledgeable about DTVs as I am now. At the time, I thought it was ok and that it only suffered from a plot that repeats the original film and bad music. Watching it again today after re-discovering the brilliance of the original put it in a whole new perspective. The thing that probably bothers me the most is how much they modernized it. Melody, Ariel's daughter, uses lots of modern slang that comes off as very annoying and out of place. All of the other kids her age at her birthday ball act the same way. At the time, the animation was good for a DTV, but Disney Toon Studios has set the bar much higher and the animation really looks bad in comparison to newer DTV films. It's not horrible throughout. The animation of Melody in her room, for instance, is very well done. It gets really bad once Ariel is turned back into a mermaid. There is a shot of Ariel singing the word "you" and the note is held. She pauses in this ugly position to sing the note and is very off model. Other characters frequently switch from on model to off in the same scene. The music is very dumbed down for kids, unlike the original score by Menken and Ashman. The songs are boring, repetative, and the lyrics are awful (Eric singing "The weather is fine and you look exquisite, now look at the time" to which Ariel sings back "It couldn't be! Is it?") This was back when DTV's basically recycled the plot of the first film, but this time on a new generation. "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride" 2 years before this set the stage for these kinds of sequels and "Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure" continued it after TLM2. The recycling of plot makes the whole film seem repetitive, redundant, and completely pointless. There are only two positive aspects of this sequel. The first is that it probably has the best use of CG/hand drawn animation in any DTV sequel. It was obvious what was generated in a computer and what originated on paper, but in many of the DTV films, the CG elemants stick out like a turd in a punch bowl and are very distracting. The repeat chase scene between Luigi and Sebastian used CG elements, but it didn't scream "Look! We used computers!" like the hot air baloon in LATT2. Melody's boat was also CG, but the cell shading was done well. I'm assuming this was the work of some talented people in Austrailia who have since been fired leaving less experienced CG artists working for Disney Toon Studios who don't quite know how to blend their elements with the film. So what is the second positive point? Despite all of it's downfalls, the movie is pretty fast paced and succeeds rather well in not boring it's audience. That's not to say it's engaging like the original in any way, but it's not as bad as other DTV fair. In my opinion, if it's better than "Pocahontas 2," it's at least doing somethig right. In my opinion, that was the worst sequel Disney has produced, with "The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2" following closely. So all in all, "The Little Mermaid 2" isn't a good sequel and doesn't hold a candle to it's predecessor, but among a library of really bad sequels, it does stand out as one of the better ones. However, after seeing this, I'm completely unexcited about the third film in the series, rounding it off as a trilogy. If it is a continuation of the sequel with Melody and all of the new characters, it holds no interest for me since the sequel has left a sour taste in my mouth. And if it is a prequel, I fear they will alter things a little to much and possibly make aspects of the original seem a different way than the creators intended (such as making the rivalry between Ursula and Triton because Ursula killed Ariel's mother). And I really hope it's not an in-betweenquel because I'm so sick of that formula my head is spinning. I will give Disney Toon Studios some credit because I've enjoyed their most recent films, but I have to say I am worried about how this film will turn out.

Thank you! Honestly, I can't really explain what I wrote because I was just flinging out ideas on the subject of Ariel's mother being named "Melody". Guess I just got a bit too carried away.

Once again, those were Ariel's eyes. I guess I'm the only one who that seemed obvious too. They are used from the same shot in the original when Ariel sings "world" in her grotto during "Part of your world"

When the storm starts in the trailer, a pair of slanted eyes flashes quickly.

I hate Morgana so much that make me want to punch her in the face and rip it in half. I bet Ursula can beat the hell out of her big time.

They also look, at least to me, like they could be Triton's eyes.

The necklace I noticed, but not the eyes. Thats' creppy, but something is telling me that they are using footage from the two movies to throw us off for the teaser, but the musical sequence looks cool, but ariel doesn't look like she does in the teaser as she does in the musical sequence.

Oh my God! I am so sorry! I was completely ignorant and didn't read the past pages! I apologize whole-heartedly.

I hope that all of this is just throwing us off the scent. I mean, I would rather have Ursula back times a million than Morgana. Erg...

I think maybe Little Mermaid III will be set after Little Mermaid II, but will flashback to before Ariel fell in love with Eric. And she tells the story of some adventure to Melody. Melody would only appear very briefly.

This is the impression that I got from the two previews.......however brief that they were.


Triton dislikes humans for some reason.......we don't know why......maybe Ariel's mother died in some accident that involved humans?


p.s. when they wrote LittleMermaidII, did the writers know that Ursula was Triton's SISTER? Then how is Morgana related? Stepsister?

That was just a deleted storyline...I don't think we're supposed to assume this is true.
But if it is, how did Ursula come out half-octopus and Triton come out regular merman???

Here are my three theories:
1.) Their father was an Octopus/squid and their mother was a mermaid. Octopi is the dominant gene, so out of 3 kids, 2 ended up with tentacles. However, the father had some mermaid in him. Lets assume that the mermaid gene is m. So they had 1 child who received an mm gene. You may remember from biology that two recessive genes produce that trait. The odds were one in a billion, but it happend.

2.) The three kids father was a player, hustler, and all around man whore. He was a merman and had his beautiful mermaid wife, who gave birth to Triton. But behind her back, he was sleeping with the sea bitch, who gave birth to twins: Ursula and Morgana. This plot alone could make for a very interesting prequel or late night soap opera. There could also be a clever love triangle where Triton's mom was experimenting with the sea bitch and somehow resulted in Octopi babies.

3.) Their mother was a hampster and their father smelled of edelberries. (That one's for any Monty Python fans).

I'm just kidding. The whole sibling rivalry bit was cut from the film. Ursula's revenge against Triton has nothing to do with blood relations.

I swear I've read somewhere that Triton's grandad was Neptune. Then again, on the same page I read that Ariel had an adoptive brother, but I never watched the series so I don't know if that's from the series or not.
