Yeah. For me, it’s Howard and The One and Only Ivan that I’m sad to see will be gone.

I don't normally advocate for online piracy, but in cases like this I consider it a legitimate solution 💁‍♂️.

They really should release a Blu-ray collection of Waking Sleeping Beauty, Howard and Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives.

A glimmer of hope...
Sources say the programming could be made available elsewhere, like digital sell-through platforms, etc.

Removing Howard, just before The Little Mermaid's release and right before Pride month starts, is a very low blow. Not a fan of this at all.

I do hope that these get digital distribution and aren't lost to the seven seas of the internet.

Perhaps now that publications are picking up the story, the film will be spared.

Well, it is an outrage. But it wouldn't be surprising to those people out there if they, like us, have followed how much of a dump they've taken on TLM in that film's "remake," deleting several Ashman songs and severely altering one of his biggest masterpieces ("Poor Unfortunate Souls").

Howard will not be removed from Disney+. The documentary about famous Little Mermaid lyricist Howard Ashman was on the original list of titles set to be pulled May 26 that Disney had sent out to partners. The list is being reevaluated, and there could be additional changes, a rep for Disney said.

Why would they remove all of their original stuff? It doesn't make any sense!

Howard getting saved is encouraging, but it's still awful that so many shows are disappearing. Disney should be putting more library content on their streaming services, not removing stuff already there. This short-sighted approach to cost-saving will alienate their consumers and ultimately cost them more in the long-run.

I don't fully understand it at all, but it's a tax write-off kind of thing. This is about HBO Max, but same concept:

"The content being targeted for removal tends to be shows and movies that are not performing on the service, but have an opportunity for a partial [tax] write off. Content costs can be amortized — or assigned a cost that gets recognized by an entity across multiple years — over the program or film’s expected lifetime. If years on that timeline remain, a company can remove that asset from distribution and use its remaining cost balance to offset taxable income elsewhere."

That would not be the only financial advantage for the corporation, though, as Variety reported "taking off the titles from streaming would also help Warner Bros. Discovery cut costs by removing lesser-watched programs to save money on residuals."

And if you're wondering how much these cuts might have made Warner Bros. Discovery, CNBC reports it could be "tens of millions of dollars" according to people familiar with the situation."

'Willow' Writer Lambasts Disney for "Absolutely Cruel" Removal of Series
https://collider.com/willow-removal-dis ... -comments/
Before you say tax-write off: these shows have already been released and so can't be a write-off. And in the case of Willow, they own the property outright. The only conclusion is that this is to get out of paying residuals. During a strike.

Do you think after Disney buys the remaining stake in Hulu, it will merge it with Disney+ or share content between the two streamers?
