Nicely done! Disney seems to have a preference for greys apparently. By the way, (call me ignorant) I don't know from which movie "Altivo" is (same as Buck?). And I miss Mulan's horse.

Altivo.....really isn't a horse that is a part of the Disney Family.....Achilles is the horse from Hunchback.....Altivo is from this movie...again not made by Disney....

Thanks for the info about Altivo, Disneyboy.

Shouldn't Mulan's horse be put in his place instead?

Well, Mulan's horse is mostly black so that wouldnt be as effective.

Also, Altivo's from 2000 and not 2004.

Thank you everyone! :)

Well, I've put Altivo in red because he's from DreamWorks Animation and thus an exception to the rest which are from the Disney canon.

Buck is from Home on the Range.

I've only included the horses whose designs resemble (even slightly) the design of Maximus. Therefore, I didn't include Khan from Mulan or the Pegasi from Fantasia etc whose design I find far more different.

@ajmrowland: You're right. It is from 2000. I've corrected it now.

Maybe not, but he's more 'related' to Maximus than Pegasus, who is the only horse with wings! And there are a couple of brown horses in the "animated family tree", you think that's effective?

I think he actually has nothing in common with that Dreamworks horse. Completely different style.

^could be the lighting of the scene.

but they have a similar color-scheme.

True on the cover of the poster he doesn't....but in the movie itself he Altivo looks quite differ than on the cover of El Dorado...

two things I've notice: All the 2-D animated horses have eyebrows but Maximus doesn't seems to have any.

I never realize Pegasus' nose resemble more human than an actual horse nose...

Maximus has white eyebrows, and they are rendered by light and shadow in CGI, so it's hard to see them because of these two reasons.

And Pegasus came from the Greek and Roman art design, so he has a Roman nose.

And Flynn Rider does not look much like either of those two El Dorado guys! He's very different from them!

Comparing Flynn and Maximus to those Dreamworks characters, it is nice to see that Disney has maintained it's own unique Disney style all this time so you can tell the Dreamworks characters aren't them! Except possibly the Home on the Range horse, but that still looks more Disney than the Dreamworks horse, and we'd like to pretend that wasn't Disney anyway!

I dont look much like my Cousin Phil, but I'm still related to him.

Ajmrowland!? I'm talking about how Disney has it's own unique characters that, sure, can be a little similar to other film's characters but still very distinctly different from them, and undeniably Disney. Why you would want to argue against that is beyond me, and you call yourself a Disney fan...

^Well, I understand that. That's always been pretty obvious to me. Im just saying that a horse Pegasus doesnt look much like Maximus, either even though they're from the same "family".

It's insane how one image of a horse can spur so much discussion about horses in Disney classics on one entire page. But, that's why I love this forum!

Though it also says a lot about Disney barely releasing anything about Tangled, that we have to lead to talking about a horse just to keep ourselves from being impatient.

Though, I'm still waiting for that GOSHDARN trailer! Why are they taking so long to release it online, if the trailer is finished?!?

I'm convinced that Disney's marketing has resorted to the tactics used by 5 year olds in a playground.

Disney Fans: Aw man, I'm so excited about Tangled although the majority of me is against the title change.

The Marketing Bully: Well I have the trailer and you. can't. have. it! (it's a horribly shrill sing-songy high pitched voice) Na na na na na na, you can't have it! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Disney Fans: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (runs away crying)

maybe i'm just speaking for myself... lol

I'm well aware of that. Just stating how that picture shows how glaring obvious it is to me that i haven't really take notice before.
Disney Duster wrote:And Flynn Rider does not look much like either of those two El Dorado guys! He's very different from them!
Sure he's different in some aspect but he also has similar archetype like the one character from El Dorado: easy going, laid back, scruffy, street smart, etc. There a lot of characters like that in fiction. The guy in my sig on far right is also like that.

Also you're acting like you know the Flynn character already even though the movie or even trailer has not even been shown.
Disney Duster wrote:Comparing Flynn and Maximus to those Dreamworks characters, it is nice to see that Disney has maintained it's own unique Disney style all this time so you can tell the Dreamworks characters aren't them!
Uhhh a lot people, even now, seems to get mix up and think non disney movies ARE disney movie like Anastasia, Swan Princess, American tail etc.

Anything that is 2-D animated and aimed mostly for kids and family is most often going to get mistaken as a "disney" movie by the masses. Most often people can spot something is disney thanks to marketing and constant exposure.

Otherwise many people would of know much about Black Cauldron for example.

It's called, as I said before, an archetype. Disney use it, Dreamwork use it, many different anime use it, and many other fiction. It's a way of establishing a type of character for story.

Disney, despite what you want to believe, is not special among the others.[/list]
