Yes, it seems so. That's going to be an interesting scene.

I love what they're doing with the Prince turning into the beast. It's pretty scary actually. But it doesn't look like they're using a magic effect, or any at all in this film, which I will be disappointed in if that's the case.

I don't think she knew he used to be human. I think she merely pondered what the painting and the rose meant but I doubt she could have figured "Oh he used to be human and now needs to fall in love before the last rose petal falls." I think in the original film Belle had an idea there was a human soul in the beast but I like that in this movie she may be way more sure.
I’ve always thought she didn’t know it, too. Though, to be honest, I’ve never given it too much thought. In that scene I just assumed Belle doesn’t discover it because when she’s about to see the entire face of the prince in the painting, she gets suddenly distracted by the enchanted rose and seems to forget about the painting. She also seems quite surprised at the end when the Beast turns into his human form and almost can't believe it's him at first, as if she had never thought he could’ve been human once. But I suppose it’s also possible she could’ve realized it when she saw the picture or later thinking about it, or at least that she suspected something. She knows about these kinds of enchantments after all; in the book she reads at the beginning there’s also a prince in disguise. It’s more difficult though, that she could’ve guessed what the rose was for. In any case, I think is not completely clarified in the film whether she realizes the Beast was a human or not. Maybe the directors left it open to interpretation.
When Beast transforms, though, you can see Belle squinting, like she did when looking at the portrait. I've always assumed that she recognizes that it's the man from the portrait.

So this movie won't open with the stained glass window-depiction of the curse? It will actually show the actual happening?

The original film means a lot to me. It was basically the epitome of everything I loved about animation, and given that I was only fifteen years old upon it release, to this day it takes me back to an extremely optimistic and much more innocent era of my life. Even now I'm always seen carrying a Beauty and the Beast themed bag (adorned with my own artwork, of course

).
So it's both strange and exciting to experience the buzz for the new live-action film. Literally everywhere I go, I'm asked how excited I am for the new film, because people instantly see I'm a fan (thanks to my bag

) and want to make a connection.
But to be honest, I don't know I feel.

And don't get me wrong; I'm happy to see that it's living on in a new way, that the classic story and characters are being introduced to a whole new generation. Some of the casting is spot-on. I'm genuinely excited to see others getting excited, and I'm certain I'll ultimately enjoy the film, but I can't help but look at the previews and go "meh."
I really don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't like the designs of the enchanted objects of the overall look of the film. However, I'm gonna do my best to view it with an open mind once I can stream it.

Interesting observation. I've never associated her expression there to the moment when she's looking at the portrait, but you could be right. However, I don't think it's the definitive proof, it could be just the expression she tends to do when she concentrates on something.
I rewatched both scenes with the directors' commentary to see if they say something on this subject, but they don't say anything about that. It would be interesting to hear their explanation.

Yes, it seems so. Do you remember that image of the old beggar woman that was revealed recently? That was also proof that it will be performed by the actors and not told through stain glasses or something similar.

Blackcauldron85 good catch! They were clever there. I, too, when I was younger, thought she could tell it was the man from the painting. And shallow as I am, I thought when she said "It is you!" she meant the man from the painting and not the kind, gentle soul she knew and saw in his eyes like it's supposed to be. However I still think she still doesn't make the connection the beast was human till that moment.
Sotiris, it took me a bit, but I see it. I prefer the soundtrack version, but the new version is more subtle and cool. I just like how in the soundtrack version Belle is the very rose the beast in the shadows needs.

That article did come up with an interesting theory on the Beast representing Howard Ashman but I don't think it works. If Howard Ashman was openly gay, he wasn't hiding like the Beast was and like the very article that proposed the theory said the Beast was. And by God likening being gay to being a Beast those dicks.

I think they compared his illness to being cursed like the beast was. They're not saying being gay is somehow a disease or anything like that.
I think more generally speaking, Ashman understood the beast because he identified with his loneliness and burden in life. He gave the beast his soul. I think what the article suggests is that part of that soul was his own.

Good explanation. You're probably right. But neither Ashman nor anyone seemed to express this till now. And he didn't want to work on Beauty and the Beast but Aladdin instead. Yes, he could have imparted that part of himself into the Beast, though. I just don't know when he didn't want to work on the thing and never gave the Beast a song.

And in part I think the comparison hinges on how the beast is "reformed" by Belle treating him as a human being despite his shape. (ie, treatment of AIDS victims as less than human)

I don't recall specifically where I read it, but back in the early/mid 90s I recall reading "Kill the Beast" was Howard's allegory of being gay, specifically the line:
We don't like what we don't understand, in fact it scares us
It may have been the book included with
The Music Behind the Magic casette/CD set, or possibly an issue of the magazine Comics Scene.

I would like to hear people actually hearing from Howard himself that he meant it that way, but I will take what Elladorine gave as leaving little doubt. It's just such a sensitive subject I wish I could hear something like "So in so was told by Howard Ashman that the Beast's curse and those who feared the Beast were metaphors for AIDS and treatment of homosexuality."
I am glad to hear the enchantress will be bathed in light. Thankfully magic effects will be used.
And I have something that is kind of a spoiler but not really. This very tiny not much of a spoiler that will ruin anything is: Some of the scenes of all the people in white costumes are from the opening scene of the film when women are shown to the prince for him to choose as a bride.

Is he choosing them as potential brides? I read the opening of the novelization and it seemed more like he was trying to pick which girl to dance with. He was aware that all of them wanted to dance with him so he was toying with their feelings to feel superior, even though he wasn't interested in any of them. But he liked making them feel as though he was going to pick one of them even when he wasn't.

Luke and Josh's voices are perfect, but dang are the orchestrations messy! They're all over the place and I don't know which instrument to focus on. Plus, it drowns out the singing.
