We should have a photoshop thread. You know, something like the "make your own DVD cover" but less serious. ;)

Snow White: Diamond Edition

Oh, Chernabog... :)

You didn't read everything I said...or at least no completely carefully.

You said I was just saying it was most important because it was first, and I didn't compare it to the rest of the films.

But I said, I know there are other very important films, Cinderella and The Little Mermaid saved or revived the studio and it's animated films.

But I pointed out, if you had to find the most important film, it is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

And I left you to think about it. I didn't write all the reasons, because in truth, there are so many possible reasons for why Snow White is so important, it could go on and on. We don't knoq what the history of cartoons, of animation, of animated movies, of movies in general, of Disney, of fairy tales, of art, of popular culture would be like without this film.

If Cinderella or other films failed, yea, maybe we wouldn't have any more Disney animated films or anymore Disney at all. So? Without Snow White we wouldn't have any other Disney animated films except that one, we may not have anymore Disney at all, and that film and all the studio's work could've gotten sold or lost or destroyed or something. And that's only one of the reasons why Snow White is the most important Disney film to the company.

And yea, Walt said he didn't want to do animated movies much anymore...after Sleeping Beauty, or maybe 101 Dalmatians, I forget, but he definately wanted to do them for a while still after Snow White.

Of course the sequels and franchises are worse than the cover art, but bad cover art is still a small disgrace to the films they grace. And no, Cinderella III is not lumped in with the disgraces of the sequels, because A) it's really good and B) it could be taken as "what if", an alternate reality, not a sequel. It changes the original's ending, and C) with the changing of time and deliberate artistic changes from the original, there is kind of an excuse for everything in Cinderella's universe to be messed up or different in this sequel. And the cover art for that one actually is good, it's got great composition and is very well drawn, getting Cinderella's face very on-model which is a rarity.

Anyway, the whole point was if we love Disney art so much, we should care about the cover art. No, not more than we care about the film itself, or other things, but logically there should be some care. And you don't know how long everyone looks at the cover art. And you know what? Lots, lots, maybe most children probably do look at the cover art for a long time, getting all excited.

But more than that, this makes a lot of sense: Gracing the film with a good cover respects the film. It's true. I mean, that statement is just true.

As everyone else here says, the cover art is quite excruciatingly lurid. Why does every character have to be on the front cover, for one thing? Even those who aren't fans of the film know roughly what's in it. Why not just have the seven dwarfs, or just have the Queen and witch, or just have Snow White, the Prince and animals? You could even just put the mirror or the apple on the front and the general public would still know what the film is, so ingrained is it in popular culture. I can't understand the mentality behind the decision to cram everything into the frame.

And I'm in agreement with Disney Duster on the importance of the film. It's not only the most important animated feature, it's one of the most important films as far as fantasy cinema is concerned. Had it not succeeded we would never have had 'The Wizard of Oz', for example. 'Snow White' stands side by side with 'Star Wars' in terms of its influence on cinema.

Exactly. And there's always a choice. It's really easy to make proper coverart, so why not do it? And why accept bad coverart?

Especially for an important release as this one is.
It's all about presenting a film.

"Most people don't look at the cover art" is one of the saddest arguments I've ever heard.

How many of us think about the *real* reason behind what artwork gets chosen?

They know most collectors or soccer moms are gonna buy this thing, regardless of how the cover looks. What they're aiming for with it is impulse buyers.

It's not about class or even representing the film properly, it's about catching the eyes of the little ones in hopes that they'll beg mommy for it at the store. :p

 I think that would be terrific! Not only just for covers, but all Disney related photoshop ideas. I think I may just start one now. :)

Thus far on the Pinocchio Blu Ray and the Bolt Blu Ray it's been the same Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs Trailer! When the first Platinum Edition of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs came out there were at least two or three different trailers all voiced by Angela Lansbury , who was also the Host of the Making Of Snow White Featurette I wonder who's being the Host on the Snow White Making Of Documentary this time around?

You have to remember Deco King, as much as you adore Snow White, it simply won't have the same treatment as it did the first time round on DVD. The new remastering may be better, but as for content, promotion, care and attention, it just wont be the same.

This release is even a repeat, so goodness knows what they will do to it, although, yes, it is being issued under a different banner.

I'm not sure about that: Sleeping Beauty's reissue arguably got better care and attention than its original 2 disc Special Edition release.

However, Snow White is almost certain to get a new documentary - if only so it can be filmed in HD for the Blu-ray. It doesn't mean it will be better or worse than the Platinum Edition's though.

And don't forget Deco King, the UK got an edited documentary on their Platinum release!

None of you guys must have read my earlier posting in regard to the fact that a personal friend of mine Brian Sibley ( who has appeared on the Making Of featurettes on Jungle Book , 101 Dalmatians , Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio ) went to New York earlier this year , to record a whole raft of stuff for the forthcoming Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs Blu Ray so there will be a whole new Making Of Snow White Documentary on the forthcoming release , it really pisses me off that Disney have not made this clear that there is to be a new documentary on the Blu Ray release!

No this isn't real, I photoshopped the cover. Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
You know, this reminds me the 1971-94 WDW Snow White ride where Snow White was non existence and the Old hag was the main focus of the ride.

anyway back to topic of the thread.... Wait Blu Ray + DVD??? The the hell that mean? Does that means if I buy it, it will comes with the blu ray disc AND the DVD disc?.....WTF? I only have DVD player. I don't need a blu ray disc since I have no Blu Ray player. It's like a waste of a disc.

Anyway, I have one question concerning the movie. In the dark forest scene, Does Snow White really goes through a dark forest or was that just her hallucination from inhaling too many flowers?

It's for people who want a Blu-Ray player in the future, so they don't have to buy the BD again. Or for people who have a portably DVD player in the car.

No it's for the first reason that you said, the DVD + Blu Ray is for adaptors who plan to get Blu in the future, but an insentive to buy it now so you don't miss out incase it gets vaulted. Don't like it? Stop whining and wait until the offical DVD release comes 7 weeks later.

The eagerly anticipated , by this obsessive fan , anyway (!!) Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs Blu Ray , surprisingly , for such a major title , still doesn't appear on the front opening page of www.disneybluray.com , I would have expected it to have had it's own page on www.disneygo.com by now?

Ugh, why can't the bluray cover be like dvd+bluray cover? better yet, why can't every cover be like the regular DVD cover, which is the best in my opinion.

Lenticular covers are incredibly cheap, tacky and annoying. impacful o-sleeve on the other hand
