Let's hope Disney doesn't stoop to this.
The library content slim-down is probably not over yet; speculation is that Disney could be next. Just last week, CEO Bob Iger said Disney is targeting $5.5 billion in cost savings, including $3 billion in non-sports related content. It is unclear whether the $3 billion would involve removing library titles on Disney+ or Disney-controlled Hulu, but that’s considered a possibility.

I think selling the FOX titles would be a supremely dumb decision. I mean, why else did they buy all these IPs except for their use in streaming? Now, if they want to sell hulu, who cares. It and Netflix can fade away together. Disney doesn't need two services when they can easily put all their IPs on Disney+, just bar the adult-oriented stuff via parenting controls and so on.
Which is precisely why I said they should remove the stuff of Fox from Disney-controlled Hulu and put it on US Disney+ (now that it has parental controls and is adding more mature content) to attract subscribers who are single adults that would want to watch Predator movies like Prey or the upcoming Alien series being worked on for FX on Hulu.

They both seem like they want to be rid of it, "Here, you take it." Too bad there isn't a third party they could dump it off on. I mean, Netflix and especially hulu are already diminished and will keep diminishing. They'll probably be as irrelevant as Peacock, Tubi, and all these other random services are as time goes by, so the bigger companies like those two probably have little interest in them now.

Hulu-exclusive content will start to appear on Disney+ by year's end, although Disney+ and Hulu will continue to operate as separate services.

We don't know which content they're pulling off yet. So, I suggest not being all doom-and-gloom, as per how it more than most is here on these forums, and WAITING to find out what gets removed before sulking.

I'd be happy for them to do better at curating their current range of content rather than just inhaling anything and everything (as I would for most streaming services), but I'm not here for them just dropping titles, particularly not Disney+ exclusives. Vanishing digital content is no joke. Would love some more transparency about what exactly they're losing.

Ahh thats interesting you feel that way. For me, one of my pet peeves with HBO Max (soon to be just Max) is that company owns a huge collection of old films from Warner Bros, RKO, MGM, United Artists, etc. but they rotate films on and off the service. It’s so annoying to me when I go onto the app to watch a film I’ve seen in their library only to find it’s been removed.

Yeah, (HBO) Max playing musical chairs with all their content is annoying, but I find with them if you'll just wait long enough, you'll inevitably find it again on the service at some point. And they have one of the larger libraries of titles, so I'm never really left wanting for something to watch.
My biggest grievance with most streaming services is their need to have the largest rack of original content, so they'll greenlight generously, but refuse to give their projects the due resources (in production or marketing) for them to reach their full potential. Instead of ten really great shows, you get twenty mediocre shows. That's what I mean when I say they need to do better at curating their existing content instead of taking in everything.
Then there's the issue of deleting exclusive content, leaving potential viewers with no place to see it, and putting it at risk for complete erasure, which is why this vague announcement about Disney removing titles worries me.

Yeah, with tax write-offs (or this "impairment charge"), I believe they're not allowed to show the films/shows for legal reasons, so they become lost media. I wish the DMC would make exclusive DVDs (at the minimum) for what will soon surely become lost media (
Artimis Fowl surely will be dropped).
many of the pieces of content they created were negatively impacting the company’s bottom line due to their marketing costs outweighing the subscription revenue.
[Iger] explained, “And one interesting example — I should throw marketing in too — where when you make a lot of content everything needs to be marketed. You’re spending a lot of money marketing things that are not going to have an impact on the bottom except negatively due to the marketing costs.”
...there was a number of pieces of programming that were not driving any subscriptions whatsoever
https://boundingintocomics.com/2023/05/ ... ub-growth/
Who pays for this "impairment charge," by the way? Throwing out already-made content... where does that money come from?
