It's terrible. We can get a WRECK-IT RALPH, a male name, but we can't get MOANA, a female name. I'm sick to death of all these stupid adjective/noun names. I'm tired of calling Snow Queen, Rapunzel, and J&TB, Frozen, Tangled, & Giants. I don't want to call Moana a ridiculous name like Islands, Tropical, Tiki etc. If it will have a new name, make it at least respectful for the Polynesians, who are dying to be respected here. Disney has the world back in its hands. They can take as many risks as they want now. 2D, proper marketing, proper title, you name it! The WDAS Marketing team are the true cowards here.

This news is awful. I thought that because their biggest movie ever featured two leading heroines (not to mention the successes of live-action Maleficent, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland), Disney would be more comfortable with "female" titles. Especially since there has been so much hype for Moana. Obviously they haven't changed their stance on this. I find them incredibly hypocritical to be honest. Female titles ward off males so they must be changed but male titles are just so superior that somehow females flock to them anyway? There are just as many female viewers as male viewers so I don't see the logic behind this.

Huh, everyone I think people are making a mountain out of a molehill. Not to mention the fact that not everything reported in a paper is going to happen.

Plus, Jack and the Beanstalk is a 'male' title and they still changed it. I'm not convinced they will change Moana's title but if they do at least it's their own original fairytale and not based on or inspired by an existing fairytale that already had its own name, like Rapunzel or Snow Queen.

Everybody make your guesses what the new title might be:
"Defiant"
"Strong-willed"
"Bold"
"Warrior Princess"

And to think in France it's called "La Princesse du Bout du Monde" (= The Princess of the End of the World).

^that's the name they're giving it in France? I actually like that better than some stupid descriptive word with a ! at the end...
I really hope they don't change it...haven't they learned by now with Frozen that a female audience is large enough to support a movie with a female friendly title? Maybe they are worried that not having any white characters will bring in a smaller audience so they don't want to risk it...sigh. Even worse, what if they change it to "Maui" instead?

Let’s see, what are some ocean words and vague concepts:
Anchored
Beached
BraveUsed already.
Clouds
Drowned
Destiny
Home
Free
Island Story
Power
Sailing
Sand
SeashellsToo girly.
Sunk
Water
WaterloggedToo many syllables/too difficult to remember
Waves
Wet
I’m partial to “Drowned” or “Sunk” myself; it’s a nice metaphor for how Moana feels throughout the story (like Rapunzel and Flynn were “tangled”) and it sounds dramatic/violent, which will draw in the male viewers…

Except that 'Frozen' isn't a female friendly title, it's gender neutral, so what they're probably thinking is 'look how well having some generic unisex title worked for Frozen, it tricked TONS of little boys into seeing it, so lets do that for Moana too!'.

I won't freak out about this one (especially since it's not confirmed the title has been changed yet). I was IRATE over the Rapunzel to Tangled title change, but in the end I still loved the movie and Tangled doesn't bother me (as much) now. Frozen, I was completely fine with since it has so little in common with The Snow Queen, I actually prefer it not being called that.
I think Disney would be fine leaving the title Moana, since unlike Rapunzel, she's not an established "princess" in pop culture mentality. Their goal with these vague titles is to get families with little boys into theaters on opening weekend before words gets out it's a "princess" film. Funny enough, once word got out about Tangled and Frozen being musical fairy tales, their box office numbers PICKED UP AFTER opening weekend, unlike Ralph and Big Hero 6, which though they did well, did not have anywhere near the merchandise impact of the two "girly" movies.
Oh Disney Marketing Team... le sigh.

To be honest, I was never enraged about the title change in "Tangled". But it's a ridiculous movie, indeed.

Disney has changed the titles and logos of films in production multiple times in the past. For example:

Wreck-It Ralph was a MALE name. Big Hero 6 was a MALE title. But, good god if a movie is named after a female or a fairytale

They changed Rapunzel's title 10 months before the release.

Sure, but at least not to adjectives.

Oh, my God! I knew it! I f****** KNEW it!!
If they do change the title to a stupid adjective, I swear that there will be hell to pay!

I know but it was successful beyond their expectations! theyve now amassed an even bigger fanbase of mothers and daughters who are awaiting the next Disney fairytale/princess movie, youd think theyd be confident enough now to just give the next female lead princess movie an appropriate female friendly title and not worry whether enough dads and their sons will fill the seats.
