While I overreacted on my "Save Lumpy for Winnie The Pooh 2011" topic a few months ago, for the most part, I've been a positive poster. I haven't been one of the people ranting about how racist tPatF is. I didn't jump on the bash Mandy Moore bandwagon when Kristin Chenoweth was dropped from Rapunzel. Heck, I even support most of the DTV films.

However, in my short time here, I have found most, if not all, of Duster's posts to be negative. And no, not just negative because I disagree with them. Negative because I find he almost always posts an opinion that he asserts as fact - or the opinion everyone should adopt.

Again, while I did that in my Lumpy topic, for the most part I try to have discussion - not argument in my other topics. Such as in the topic "If the DTVS were actually GOOD would you like them?" I entered that topic liking DTVs fine, framed the topic as if they were not, and then discussed both sides of the topic fairly.

I have (honestly) always been annoyed by Duster's posts long before this, because I always find them one-sided and Duster closed off to discussion. I think I've responded to his posts in the past only to be fought with to the point I just surrender and let him believe his opinion is word.

I hate to sound so rude or mean, but, this is not the first time I've felt Duster has been one-sided and biased in his opinion. I'm sure the people who were applauding Escapay felt the same way, because their applause could not have been without reason.

THIS. Also you would notice that whenever you state an opinion that clashes with Duster's, Duster would post-reply your post and try make a counter argument out of it just because it doesn't agree with Duster's disney ideology. Like that argument he and Escapy had over later Disney films don't have that "magic"(whatever the hell that means) that Walt had. Or something along those lines.

He doesn't seems to say "I'm not fond of what the story of Rapunzal seems to be with royalty change etc, but I'll wait and hold my judgement."

His initial respond was more like a declaration of a fact. "Royalty change?! Prince is Bandit?! Automatic FAIL!!! No exceptions."

We don't hate Duster(we just love to make jokes on him ), it just that his views seems very shoved-in-your-face.

Everytime I come here to open this thread hoping to see if there's any news on the actual film I keep seeing this crap about the original story. So from me as well:

I think reactions here, wether positive OR negative, are WAY too premature. Yes we can discuss rumors and such, but to get into arguments based on rumors without knowing a fully confirmed full storyline seems unnecesarry and out of place! I think we need to maintain patient and see how this project devellops!

What I do find weird is that for Toy Story 3 there is not only a trailer, but also a 2 preview sequence released by Disney. For TRON Legacy we have had a trailer since last summer and now loads of publicity stills and for Rapunzel we have barely anything. I mean, we could have gotten AT LEAST a couple of final character designs by now. SOMETHING definitive, and not post production or devellopment art...

I'm slowly dying here for ACTUAL info about this project!!!

I guess we had similar issues here when Princess and the Frog was in the same state...

Why haven't we heard anything about Joe Jump?! I mean, it's only five years away! Come on, Disney! What's the holdup?

But with The Princess and the Frog, we got an actual teaser a year and a half before the film was released.

We haven't seen an iota of footage from Rapunzel (not counting that little, itty bit of footage from the dis-carded "Rapunzel Unbraided").

I originally intended to post a long and drawn out post as a way of saying, "My problem is that people are forming opinions on a huge aspect of the film (the story) and only knowing a few sentences about the story" but KubrickFan already did that, as did others after him (singerguy04 and robster16).

So a huge to the three of them.

There is, however, a few things I still wanna address...

NO.

I disagree with his opinion. I believe such a large opinion (regardless whose it is) about the story when so little is revealed shouldn't be formed this early in the production of the movie. IMO, all that anyone should even do now is just have speculation, not a fully-formed-based-on-a-few-sentences-revealed opinions. It's ridiculous.

A person can't say a movie's story isn't as good as it could be (because it isn't "traditional") based on only knowing a few sentences leaked out. They can speculate the living daylights out of it for all I care, but to just outright say "It's not traditional, I don't think it's going to be as good" is jumping to conclusions far too early. It's like reading the first few sentences of a novel, thinking the novel won't get any better, and giving up right away.

He can have all the opinions he wants, we all can. But to present them with such a forceful tone just makes it sound more whiny and fanboyish than presenting a discussion worth reading. And in a public forum where everyone can voice their opinions, I have as much a right to call him out on his as he has to have it. Does that mean I'm saying he can't have it? No, I'm saying it's my opinion that I don't think he should make one yet. I have never outright said "Duster, shut up until you see the movie."

When I told him that he should ignore the Disney one and make his own, I was being sarcastic and facetious. Something you obviously do not understand.

But honestly, now I really feel he should. I mean, if a simple story change alone is enough to make Duster throw a sh!tfit, let him prove that going traditional is the way to go and make his own Rapunzel.

He doesn't understand when someone disagrees with his opinion. He thinks that it means "You can't say your opinion, shut up" rather than "I disagree and here's why". Just look up any of his past posts. If someone says something to the contrary to what he believes in, he's either insulting and saying they don't know what he's talking about (or that they don't know what they themselves are talking about), overtly defensive and whining that he's being silenced, or just disregards it and pretends that their post never existed (such as when 2099net makes lengthy posts explaining the tech behind restorations and he disregards it because it simply proves what he's been saying is wrong).

Honestly, I'm sorry I even disagreed with Duster's opinion because for one thing, I'm not even that fond of Rapunzel and I'm only looking forward to it because it's Glen Keane's baby. But reading such ridiculous statements made me annoyed, especially since this movie's been in development for so long and has had a lot of changes, yet when it came to something like "Rapunzel is now a Princess and her Prince is a Bandit", all hell suddenly broke loose for a few people. Just be grateful it's no longer the two clashing 20th Century teenagers.

And seriously, if the filmmakers switched the peasant/royalty, they did it for a reason, and they believe it would be a better story. Why doesn't anyone ever have faith in the filmmakers' judgment anymore? Instead people are all too quick to criticize every little piece of information that comes out without knowing at all how it fits into the grand scheme of things.

Makes me question why I even bother being a Disney fan sometimes. Fans are sometimes the worst thing to happen to a franchise.

Trust me, I know this experience WAY too well. I agree with this statement.

The thing I've noticed about most fandoms is that many fans get overly-zealous to the point where they basically think they "own" the material they're fans of. As if they're entitled to be the only ones to decide what makes a good product and what doesn't, instead of backing off and letting the creators do what drew them in in the first place.

As for Disney, I figure . . . no one should be telling them what's suitable for Disney other than themselves.

Signed! I mean personally I probably would have made other choices once I see the final movie, and I regret the fact that Glen Keane is no longer directing. I realise it would be easy for me to condemn and critique this production and voice my frustration, but based on what really. We simply no too little to say anything about the project as a whole. It's only a matter of time before we can truelly dissect and discuss this project frame by frame...

Whether it's movies or video games, fanboys have to gripe and complain about any insignificant detail the company they supposedly like gets out. Here's a thought, why not we wait and see what it looks like? They can argue all they want afterward, but maybe they might like it down the road. One thing fanboys fail to realize is that the company that makes their movies or video games is a business. They have to make certain decisions to keep them afloat.

But yes, I absolutely agree about fans thinking they own their franchise. They're just so obsessesd with their thing that they believe if the company doesn't idiolize it the way they do, it's total fail. Its very short-minded behavior.

I am a Disney fan and I love Disney, but I don't go so far as trying to put a leash on the company and bark orders they can't hear. That's just absurd.

Here's hoping we get some information on Rapunzel soon before all this drivel contiues for days.

I've been excited about this film ever since I first heard about it in 2004, and now I'm getting extremely antsy to see more from it. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before somewhere, but do we know when we're supposed to get a teaser for it? I thought I read somewhere that we'll have to wait until Toy Story 3. Is that possibly because they want to run as much attention on The Princess and the Frog as they can? Perhaps we'll even get a sneak peak on TPatF's DVD/Blu release, or even Dumbo's. If anything I really hope we get some kind of official image of her, that's clear and in HD.

Oy, I'm so glad I've been avoiding this thread.

I never understand the complaining on Blu-rays. What is it to argue over to begin with?

Now, back to Rapunzel!!!

So, lets speculate. How will this film open? Will it be a storybook like Snow White, Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty? A stain-glass window like Beauty and the Beast? A painting like Pocahontas? Or an opening number/prologue like The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog?

I can't wait to find out!

I think the fact it's the 50th canon Disney film will be hugely promoted, and they'll do a storybook open for nostalgic purposes.

I would prefer a storybook opening just because I think they look nice. If not, then another stain glass would be very cool! Another thought I just had would be if they did it through a tapestry(s)! It'd be new, and it would look sweet.
