It's interesting Disney will have at least two LGBT characters in the movie. Hal (the Teen inspired by Happy) who will be non-binary and Gabo (the Teen inspired by Grumpy) who will be gay. Though I'm sure Disney will hide it in the marketing again.

Eh, the plot is too similar to Wicked and the goat is annoying. The chicken scene with the projectile eggs was quite cringe-worthy too.

I noticed the improvement too although I'm still not fond of the non-photorealistic rendering. I don't understand what's the point of it aside from trying to copy a trend. It looks nothing like hand-drawn or painting.

I found Magnifico's animation way too exaggerated. The way he snapped at Asha was too much. I remember CG animators saying the 2D animators at Disney were too "hammy" in their acting. Well, the way they animated Magnifico here is hammier than any other 2D villain to the point it breaks believability. His animation is filled with a lot of stock "villain" expressions too.

Ahhh!!! A classic “villain looming over the hero” poster!!! We haven’t had many of those since the 90’s ended.
I still don’t know what to think based on the trailer. But the cast list has a number of names I recognize…

AAAAAAH! Victor Garber!
The trailer itself was nice. I'm really warming up to Chris Pine as the villain.
And while Valentino is still a bit of a wild card right now, I won't deny that I lost it a little at "Your wings can't fly, but your voices can!"

Now that some of you have seen the trailer, do you agree with my desire to see a version of Wish in the same format as Peep Show?

I saw the trailer and I don't like the animation too much. The details are great but in my opinion the characters and the backgrounds doesn't look great together in some scenes. They look from different universes to me…

I don't know what to think. I want to like it, and when the trailer plays up the epicness it's electrifying... only to immediately fall flat with stupid jokes and gags. Have we not, as a society, moved away from butt jokes already? Also, when not in motion, the characters still look like something out of
Sofia the First but with better shading
Honestly, I think it would have been better if it had just Magnifico's voiceover and showcased characters, scenes and some of the music (and not just the same song we heard already) because the cringy lines aren't selling it. I still think
The Princess and the Frog had one of the most effective Disney trailers in recent-ish history. Less really is more.
On the other hand, that poster is amazing!

To be honest, I`m a little disappointed by the trailer. Mainly because of it`s underwhelming look and disjointed tone. The whole look seems flat and looks almost like cutted 3D papers instead of an actual painterly style or even something that even resembles Hand Drawn Animation. The jokes feels essentially out of place, especially with the cartoony sound of the Star sneaking, the chicken increasing in size and the ending part with Valentino.
The part with Asha and Dahlia is appealing, as are the moments with the chubby Kristoff-like guy, the part where Asha runs up the branches of the tree and having the camera swirling around her (which reminded me of Pocahontas), and with King Magnifico and Queen Amaya (despite how there`s little that suggest that Magnifico will be a great villain). And what`s up with having a raccoon in an fictional, Iberian Kingdom?

I loved the trailer. The animation looks beautiful, almost looks 2D. The character designs are gorgeous, and the story itself seems exciting and interesting. Looking forward to seeing it in theaters.

I assume it's a deliberate nod to

Disney is trying hard to distance the film from the Disney princess label.
As Veerasunthorn, Buck and co-screenwriter/chief creative officer for Walt Disney Animation said, Asha isn’t an actual Disney Princess and that, hopefully, changes the narrative on how people perceive the character and the moniker in general. “The expectations for richer, more complex stories has definitely increas[ed] over the last 20 years,” Lee said. “You see more simple connections to the old fairy tale.” “Asha is representing a very different kind of teen,” said Lee. “She’s representing a teenager that we can all relate to today…it wouldn’t make sense for her to carry any of the burdens of whatever societal structure she was in at the beginning of the film.”
Much of this need for nuance with Disney’s heroines stems from more sophisticated audiences. “When I was growing up I wasn’t thinking about the characters as princesses or not,” said Lee. “It was more about what differentiated the characters. It ties to the classic fairy tale and the concept of this European structure at the time that we just went with but as we get older we look at it differently.” Lee cites the characters created for her film, “Frozen,” and how princesses Anna and Elsa weren’t initially written as royalty. “
“We call them Disney heroines,” said Buck, and it certainly shows a unique sea change in the Disney universe, when being a Princess was paramount. Now, thanks to “Frozen,” we have a Disney Queen (in Anna), as well as a bevy of young animated women who aren’t royal at all. “You’re hitting on something that is actually is very important,” said Buck. “A lot of times it’s assumed that our heroines are princesses. People just assume ‘Well, it’s another princess movie.” Not necessarily. Wait to see the movie.”

At this point in the conversation, Chris Buck asked the Disney rep in the room, “Can we make it clear that she’s not a princess?
Chris Buck: A lot of people assume when they see the trailer that she’s a Disney princess. And sometimes that comes with some things that they expect of a certain character.
Fawn Veerasunthorn: With it being a fairy tale, that’s what’s expected of us. But we set out with a goal to try to make something new and fresh.

Q: What are you most excited about, when it comes to introducing Asha to the world? What are you excited for audiences to get to see with her?
Chris Buck: A lot of times, what people expect when we do a heroine like this is that she’s a princess. I can’t wait for people to see what her journey is. It’s probably not what everybody assumes it’s going to be.

Q: Since this is a new story that’s unlike anything we’ve seen in Disney animation, and it has a new character at its center, what are you most excited about when it comes to introducing the world to Asha?
Peter Del Vecho: Our hope is that they embrace her the way that we fall in love with her. She’s very real to us and very relatable. She’s not perfect. She’s not a Disney princess. She’s a regular girl who has hopes and dreams, like we all do. That’s something that’s universal to all of us.

Very generic trailer and I don't like the animation
The voice cast is fine, 3 hispanic actors and 1 who is at least mediterranean (ramy) so not bad
I hope the movie is good but the full trailer didn't did the work to make it look cinem worthy, looks very streaming (not a bad streaming movie but clearly not worth the ticket, and I say this as someone who has been hoping the movie since last September)

I was also underwhelmed by the new trailer. I don't know how to put this exactly, but Wish kinda feels like a zombie Disney movie. There are a lot of elements in it that on paper make for great Disney movies, but for some reason they aren't coming together quite right. It just feels sort of hollow and soulless.

New info about the songs:
Disney recently previewed extended Wish footage to the press, showing off the movie’s watercolor-like CG animation, catchy original songs, and more of the story. During that presentation, the studio introduced four songs: “Welcome to Rosas” (the movie’s opening number, which introduces the fairytale Kingdom of Rosas, inspired by the look of classic Disney movies as well as towns along the Iberian Peninsula), “This Wish” (the film’s “I want” song, performed by DeBose as Asha makes her wish), “I’m a Star” (an ensemble performance featuring a cast of animated singing animals) and “This is the Thanks I Get” (performed by Pine, as the King expresses his motives).
Lee tells THR that three more songs and a reprise have not yet been unwrapped, including a DeBose and Pine duet, as well as an end credits song performed by Michaels. Of the duet, she says Asha and Magnifico “are aligned in their understanding of the power of what these wishes are emotionally–how precious they are as a part of someone’s heart–and to get to have a duet where the villain and the protagonist are aligned, even for a moment, was a thrill career-wise.”

The Hollywood Reporter says Disney has yet to decide which song or songs to submit for the Oscars. They must choose before November 1, which is the submission deadline. Jennifer Lee and Peter Del Vecho talk about it in the article:
“I think it’s going to be hard,” Disney Animation’s chief creative officer Jennifer Lee–a Wish writer and exec producer–tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We haven’t had that conversation yet with our studio music team. … Because we come out late, we have to make choices soon, but at the same time, we are going to start getting the soundtrack out a little sooner so people can start hearing the music. That might tell us a bit more.”
In recent years, Disney has implemented a strategy of only putting forth one song from its animated musicals for consideration. Will it enter multiple songs this year? “It is under discussion. The hard part is you don’t want to split the vote, so you generally want to pick the song that you think will best resonate with the audience,” Wish producer Peter Del Vecho tells THR. “There were so many standout songs in this movie, selecting which one we are going to put forward is going to be a challenge.”
This other article also offers a description of each song and confirms Asha works as a tour guide:

So now we have a confirmed seven songs (including a reprise), one of which is the King Magnifico villain song, "This is the Thanks I Get". I have read in one of the articles somewhere that describes this song as "both fun and menacing", it sounds like this will be the "Poor Unfortunate Souls", "Gaston" type of song other than the "Be Prepared", "Hellfire" type.
It's kind of funny to read comments elsewhere that describes the new trailer as "un-exciting", "disappointing", "generic" and other such words. When one has to remember that Tangled and Frozen had FAR WORSE first trailers than this. I'm glad we got out of the era when Disney trailers felt like they were ripping off Dreamworks.

Didnt they try that already with Moana and Raya?

And now they are part of the Princess Brand... only a matter of time when Asha joins too

The animation in the newest trailer does seem to be a bit more defined/finished in comparison to the teaser back in April. It's all going to look beautiful on the big screen and King Magnifico is looking like a promising villain. The poster is really nice and quite simple in comparison to the other posters of previous WDAS films.
Not to mention that the cast we got is very solid.
I also like the poster and the cast seems nice. Definitely Gonna watch it on the big screen (because theres nothing else later this year that seems interesting enough to see) But the Trailer was meh. What makes the movie seem weak to me is that there is no real emotional Personal attachment to it unlike other timeless movies (Frozen with being afraid of what others think of you, Aladdin with playing a role to feel worthy, and Tiana with feeling like youre so close to your dreams and feeling helpless to reach them etc.) ALL things people can relate to and DRIVE people to root for them and seeing yourself in them, but this?....nope. Just because Asha is a Person with moral doesnt automatically make her likable or relatable, and if "trying to make the wishes for others true" is the message of the story...

Normally I would also be harsh on such a movie but I need to remind myself that Wish is only "100 year Disney Animation Magic" ,the movie. Its just a celebration movie of all past Disney movies (even the newer ones) mixed into one movie: The princess, the songs, the villain &maybe Twist villain

, the 2d and 3d aim and referring Every Disney movie with easter eggs and characters.its just a checklist, the movie wasnt made for itself, just for its legacy or like a big celebration commercial i guess. Thats why the movie isnt something Personal and the music isnt memorable or emotional enough and doesnt have an outstanding fairytale aspect (or preexisting source material outside of disney). Because it tries to wrap up EVERYTHING only being created to be a movie based on Disney classics with checking what they can recreate without asking WHY they do it.
Its as if Disney asked AI to create a movie based on every Disney property and it came up with this
thats why I also think it couldnt function as its own independent franchise with sequels and stuff because its depending too much on the legacy. It was only Made for the 100 year celebration i guess. Take all the Disney legacy elements away and the movie is empty.
Thats why I also dont Take this movie seriously or as "THE NEXT BIG THING" like frozen was or Tangled. Just a 2 hours Disney commercial. The movie dosnt bring something new to the table unlike the others. That sounds maybe a bit mean but atleast I confessed how I feel about it and Im still clearly gonna see it on the big screen and hope for the best

Wish Filmmakers Considered Going Full 2D for Disney's 100th Anniversary - Here's Why They Didn't
https://www.ign.com/articles/wish-filmm ... they-didnt
“We did talk about it in the beginning, in multiple directions,” Jennifer Lee said. “It was interesting, because when we first started thinking about it, we were just deciding. It wasn't like: we can or can't. It was just deciding, is that what we want to do?”
After the Wish teaser trailer dropped, animation aficionados were surprised to see the computer animation look painterly, which is more in line with the watercolor style of Disney’s 1959 adaptation of Sleeping Beauty.
Lee said that specific aesthetic came out of discussions with Wish producers Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones, and co-directors Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn about their collective goal in making Wish a film where there was no break from the artists’ vision to the screen.
“What happens in hand-drawn is that you have the incredible hand of the artist, but also limitations in what you could do on screen,” Lee explained. “What happened in CG is you'd have incredible, boundless opportunities, visually, that elevated it — even to the point for some — into realism, which is not what we wanted to do. The more important thing to us was to have a way to find technology that can do everything. Connect to the true vision of the artist, but bring in technology that could finally take away limitations.”
Lee admitted that even after they committed to using computer animation to make Wish, they did consider using traditional animation to bring the character Star to life. Ultimately, she said 2D had too many limitations in terms of camera movements and characterization.
However, Lee said their upcoming short, Once Upon a Studio, ended up becoming the project that celebrates Disney’s 2D and 3D traditions. “We didn't know if it would work, and it did,” she shared.
“We don't, in any way, want to shy away, or turn our back on hand-drawn,” Lee emphasized. “We love it. It's a part of our DNA…Keeping that legacy alive is absolutely critical. But with every film or series or short, we're going to do the technology that we think is absolutely right for what we're trying to achieve.”
