I actually like the trailer…I agree, lots of cgi, but so were the other live actions sadly

Clips of most of the “Whistle While You Work” scene, which apparently she now does WITH the dwarves instead of merely with the forest animals (no more trespassing?!).

Ugh... The dwarfs look so uncanny, like creatures that are nice to her during the day but at night they will devour her. They should have hired real actors.

I think they made the distinct choice not to cast actors as to not push stereotypes and the term dwarfs on them. Especially after the criticism by Peter Dinklage. So they are magical creatures with their own distinct look and proportions for a reason. Humanoid but definitely not human. I hope they expand on their unique nature in the movie even further.

Initial impressions:

*There was definitely that one shot of Snow and the not-Prince looking all romantic and whatnot, so we can assume that the male lead will be a love interest in the final cut after all. Whether this was always the intention or something added in reshoots isn't totally clear, but I definitely have my theories. Still doubt we'll get True Love's Kiss or anything like unto it.

*Not really feeling Gadot's Evil Queen. Disney Villains are normally the one place where it's okay to be over the top and theatrical, but the Queen has that icy steel-ness that she doesn't necessarily share with Ursula or even Maleficent.

*Lots of bright colors, which I'm totally here for.

Again, the dialogue around the dwarves especially has been really twisted throughout, but I think that where they landed is ultimately where they should have started: keep the dwarfs--and let them BE DWARFS--but be smarter than to equate a real-life medical condition with a magical creature.

The song doesn't sound bad. And I noticed there are some new lyrics. More than avoiding trespassing, I think the reason they changed the scene is not to show Snow White doing housework on her own, but with the help of the dwarfs, to make it less "sexist." Also, in the live-action remakes they tend to reduce the screen time of animals. I don't mind this change too much, though, to be honest.

Oof.... just saw the clip of Whistle While You Work....

My opinion:
Rachel's acting.... oof. It either feels like she is flirting (handing off the broom) or like she talking down to the dwarfs (no pun intended)...
The way she starts the songs feels like she is performing on a stage... way over the top.

I watched it with 0 expectations (The trailer and whistle while you work) and I was blown away. It looks great

Really great. Prob the most faithful to the source material of any live action remake yet.

I think people allow their personal opinions and prejudices to inform what they think of something

Everyone was so quick to judge this and want to see it fail and im happy that they've come out all guns blazing and proven the majority wrong

Shockingly, I didn’t hate it. I still have no plans to see it....at least not in theaters.

Choreography! I think Rachel sounds lovely in “Whistle While You Work.” She sings like a modern Broadway vocalist and brings a fresh take to the charming song.

The dwarfs have a creepiness to them you only find elsewhere in Robert Zemeckis’ mo-cap movies. I understand and appreciate the dedication to emphasize that these dwarfs are mythological characters (Walt’s were, too). But I think it’s disappointing that roles that could have gone to little people, mostly didn’t. It’s a difficult area to get right, and I think they tried their best.

I think it will be a fun watch next spring. I’m most worried about the new Pasek and Paul stuff and how it will fit with the classic music.

I said on my TikTok about that the hair was wrong since the first photo was released and nobody believed me in the comments. As someone said before the length of the hair is wrong. To make Snow's hairstyle you need more hair. Her hair should be long till her shoulders in order to make the waves in her hair. They simply cutted Rachel's hair and the form that they tried to gave it doesn't work because they cutter too much.

This is how it should have looked like:

I've already seen people comparing her to Lord Farquaad from Shrek

I agree with you, it was clear that the hairstyle was unflattering from the first behind the scenes paparazzi photo.

The hairstyle photos from Farerb would have looked lovely and matched the fairytale vibe of the rest of the film.

For her dress, I will say that it veers towards garish and is more so based on the 2000s Disney Princess franchise interpretation of her gown than the actual 1937 version. That said, I think it’s refreshing to see bright colors used in a modern film. And I think her look is probably the most faithful to her original animated counterpart of any of the other remakes, besides perhaps Jasmine. But like I’ve said in other posts, maybe too faithful… Cinderella’s remake dress was probably the most successful, it paid homage to the original animated gown and the DP franchise version of it, but was still its own thing. The worst was Belle’s yellow gown, which was utterly disappointing.

Well, as for the teaser: I liked it. It liked the overall vibe and the atmosphere, as it managed to create a sense of whimsy and wonder (especially with the animals). Despite how it doesn`t exactly feels like the animated version transferred to the screen. However, the Rachel Zegler`s and Gal Gadot`s truly didn`t seem to fit their characters. Rachel`s wig feels off. The same with Gal`s costume, as it looked cheap. At the end, the visuals looked a little bit like Shrek (which is not strange, due to how Shrek blatantly copied the elements of Snow White). The parts with the scary forest looked too psychedelic. As for the teaser poster, I liked it, as did the same with the clips of Whistle While You Work. So it`s obvious that it will happen with the dwarfs in the same sequence.

The teaser is fine, but the abundance of (obvious and garish) CGI begs the question, why didn't they just make a fully CG feature?

I've gone back and rewatched the trailer a few times, and I'm trying so hard to disconnect my overall impressions with the real world context of Zegler's comments, but ... the whole thing just seems so dissonant.

None of the other fairy-tale adaptations felt THIS hyper-saturated and saccharine. This shouldn't be a problem since overall I have wanted these adaptations to lean MORE into the sparkliness of it all. Like, if I had seen some of the concept art for this early on, I probably would be really excited. But I don't think that this veneer of fantasy is at all congealing with this hypermodern sensibility they're advertising. I guess the verdict won't really be out until I see the whole thing in action (probably on Disney+), but even the little tastes are concerning.

Rachel Zegler, for example ... again I'm trying so hard to divorce my reaction from the real-world context of the things she has said about the film. This shouldn't be hard since I did find her quite charismatic in West Side Story, but her acting feels terribly out of place here. Like she's trying to channel equal parts Julie Andrews and Taylor Swift. Based on her performance in "Whistle While You Work," we can assume that the director conflates "enchanting" or "sweeping" with "cutesy." Like, I see Zegler twirling around the cottage and I don't think of Amy Adams in Enchanted, I think of those music videos from the 2010 era Disney DVDs where they would have Selena Gomez or Tiffany Thornton give some pop cover of "Once Upon a Dream."

And the thing is, this would all feel way less out of place if they hadn't decided to plummet headfirst into a Thomas Kinkade aesthetic. But it hasn't seemed to occur to them that this modern cynicism is in fact totally incompatible with this "Once Upon a Time" mindset. You can have a classic feel with a compelling, even "strong" female protagonist, but when I saw Snow arching her eyebrows in a very "Mean Girls" fashion, I audibly groaned. There was just no coordination when it came to figuring out this thing's tone or flavor.

I also agree about the hairstyle not flattering Zegler at all, though I do think that the bow on top helps close the gap a little.

Sighhh. I thought some of you guys would be pleased when the trailer dropped given that the tone and look is what people have wanted from these reimaginings — a lush, fairy tale musical that aesthetically resembles the animated movie it’s based on, but I guess you really can’t please everyone.

At least the teaser art isn’t just a slipper, rose, lamp, or back of a mermaid. We see the heroine, scenery, etc. As for the teaser trailer, at least it isn’t hiding that it’s a musical.

To answer a few questions brought up in the thread, the love interest was always there. It just isn’t Snow White’s main focal point or main wish (although, there is nothing wrong with dreaming of romantic love).

She still trespasses as shown in the trailer when she entered the cottage with the woodland creatures. Whistle While You Work is just sung later after she’s met the miners.

A lot of the sets are very grand and practical.

You're right. It also occurred to me that maybe they combined "Whistle While You Work" with "The Silly Song" since Snow White and the dwarfs are shown dancing here. They'll probably have to condense some of the dwarfs' scenes to make room for the stuff about Jonathan and his band or the Queen's extended role. Well, unless the film is very long. But we'll see. Perhaps, that song will also be included since it's quite an iconic sequence too.

I for one am positive after the teaser, and I wasn’t very pleased before. I love the aesthetic, the look of the dwarves. One thing I will say about Snow White’s hairstyle is that I do miss the bow. It’s always been an integral part of her look and it would give the hair a little more context had she worn one I think…
