Pretty interesting that the Variety at the end of the review praises Paperman as a 'hand drawn' film. I'm wondering how the other reviews will see this short. Or the general audience for that matter. Will they look at it as a hand drawn short?

True, although you can't blame them at all. It does look hand drawn. I think those who don't know the first thing about animation will just think "classic Disney" as opposed to computer animation, or as most think of it, "Pixar".

Wreck-It Ralph Clip: Ralph's Gone "Turbo"
http://www.bigscreenanimation.com/2012/ ... turbo.html
Watch this clip from Disney's Wreck-It Ralph, in theatres next Friday. It's an extended play of the "My Qbertese is a little rusty" scene from the trailers. Having seen the film last night, I can tell you that "Going Turbo" is not a good thing in Ralph's arcade world.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Gets Early Raves from Critics
https://www.animationmagazine.net/featu ... m-critics/
The first reviews of Wreck-It Ralph are in, and everybody seems to be in love with Disney’s charming pic about an 8-bit video game bad guy who decides to make some changes in his life.
Variety’s Peter DeBruge wrote, “With plenty to appeal to boys and girls, old and young, Walt Disney Animation Studios has a high-scoring hit on its hands in this brilliantly conceived, gorgeously executed toon, earning bonus points for backing nostalgia with genuine emotion.”
Hollywood Reporter’s critic Justin Lowe noted Pixar’s influence on the movie, and added, “Guided by executive producer John Lasseter, Walt Disney Animation Studios has clearly devoted significant resources and talent to Wreck-It Ralph, recruiting a top-notch cast and a diverse array of animation, visual effects and lighting artists to contribute to the distinct and varied vid-game styles. With a mix of retro eye-candy for grown-ups and a thrilling, approachable storyline for the tykes, the film casts a wide and beguiling net.”
The movie, which scored a 98% anticipation rate on
http://www.rottentomatoes.com, will open on Friday, Nov. 2nd.
You can learn more about the making of this thrilling Disney movie at Animation Magazine’s Feature Films and VFX Summit program on Tuesday, October 30th at 10 a.m. Wreck-It Ralph’s effects supervisor Cesar Velazquez, vfx supervisor Scott Kersavage, director of look and lighting Adolph Lusinsky and assoc. director of look and lighting Brian Leach will discuss how they achieved the spectacular visuals and superior lighting for the movie. Sorry to beat a dead horse with a bat, but as much as I am looking forward to this and despite everyone being excited for it, I'm STILL worried that this might be a box office bomb.
You guys remember Snakes on a Plane? That one got a LOT of hype, but bombed at the box office. And I'm worried that may be the case with this movie.

Nonesense. It'll be fine. I know the new stupid Twilight movie is going to be near, but I think Wreck It Ralph will be fine in the box office.

Pretty much impossible that this will bomb. You can't compare it to Snakes on a Plane, as its marketing was pretty much based on it being intentionally bad and as such didn't have much crossover appeal outside of B-movie fans and those who like to laugh at movies.
Wreck-It Ralph has a lot of crossover appeal, as it will appeal to not only families, but those who grew up and are nostalgic for the arcade game era, which is a lot of people. Add in the incredibly positive reviews and it should do gangbusters. I have complete faith that this will make more than $50 million on its opening weekend.

Your really trying to compare the two? Snakes was destined to fail, it was marketed as this instant cult hit, but you cant really set out to make such a thing, those types of movies have to happen on their own, you cant force it which is what they were aiming for. Ralph appeals to gamers, and misleading or not, it has all these iconic characters in the ads for it, people will see it for that alone. That combined with just having the Disney name on it all but guarantees it wont bomb. whether it meets expectations remains to be seen, who even knows what their anticipating really? But it'll do just fine, if not better.
Edit: I started typing my post before estefan posted, funny we said the same exact thing.

All this, "Snakes on the Plane," deal reminds me of Robert Zemeckis film, "Flight," which comes on the same day as Disney's, "Wreck-It Ralph." I find, "Snakes on the Plane," kind of weird. I mean seriously, snakes on the plane? Heck if the snakes have wings and become mutated flying snakes from either the mad science lab or outer space, that might be possible. Anyways, I'm thinking about seeing, "Flight," besides, "Wreck-It Ralph," on the precise date. However, I'm saving, "Wreck-It Ralph," for my nephew and niece on their next early dismissal, which would help that movie earn more money than, "Flight."

It's going to appeal to the mainstream gamers of today and those who grew up in the 1981 arcades with Pacman and now have kids and they are bound to take their kids to the movies and say " Look there's Pacman and his little ghosts, that's what I grew up with when I was your age " !

The snakes were placed into the cargo hold of the plane by a crime boss that wanted a specific person aboard to die: A guy that witnessed him kill a guy and is flying to LA to testify against him with Samuel L Jackson's job being to protect him.
