They had all of those pieces from Rapunzel's paintings on her tower walls, and they couldn't do anything with it? That's pathetic.
I had the same idea for the booklet. I miss the simplicity of the 90s soundtrack (like Pocahontas which used some Indian symbols for the booklet). They could have used Rapunzel's paintings and some screen shots from the film.
But still, I think the inner booklet is cool; although seeing the same artwork again and again can really get tiring. I wish they used the shot of the tower at the back to accompany the tracklisting for a classier look as I was really disappointed by the cover.
But hey! It's the music that matters! I'm looking forward to listening to my copy of the CD

I'm also disappointed with the booklet design :\ It looks like they put no effort into it at all, and did they exclude the I've Got a Dream and Mother Knows Best (Reprise) lyrics?

I don't have a problem with the booklet. But I kinda miss it when the Disney lyrics booklet actually didn't have any images to go with it making the movie something more of a mystery.

i love the melody of when will my life begin.... but i wish there wasn't the electric guitar
acoustic guitars would have still given it a youthful fun vibe and kept it in that joni mitchell style
it just sounds too loud, and too fast for mandy's singing, also it such a sudden change from the fast pace of the song, to the quiet subdued ending

^ I agree. I don't like it as much as I thought I would.
pap64 wrote:For me, that "It" song is "I See The Light". I can't stop listening to it. It's so simple and yet so beautiful I think that will be Tangled's signature song, just like "A Whole New World" is for Aladdin.
I either have to wait 'til Christmas for more iTunes cash...or I can race to the store, tear this album off the shelves and press play/replay/loop until November 24.

I listened to the other songs uploaded and I'm already tapping my toes to them.
I really like "Mother Knows Best". Even though it sounds pretty upbeat, there are points where it does get a little creepy. And...Is it just me or do i have the feeling that when she says "Because I wuv you" she is really pinching Rapunzel's cheeks hard?
Also really like "I Got A Dream". Who knew? Robert Barone and Agent Manning can sing!

Went through some midnight-to-2am madness trying to get this thing, but finally I've got my (physical) copy of the soundtrack
STILL can't get the damn graphic novel though--I called the Mail Orders number and they didn't even know what it was! I am seriously ready to buy a copy off of someone who can readily get them

I am loving this soundtrack! I've listened to the sung songs 3 times through and they get better with each run. I think right now my favorite is the "When Will My Life Begin?" (Reprise 2). It's probably thanks a lot to the orchestra, but it's just so sweeping that it literally got my pulse up. I feel like I'll have to see "Mother Knows Best" to really appreciate it. I like it well enough, but I have a hunch that I'll like it a whole lot more in context. "I've Got a Dream" is just what I was hoping it'd be! It sounds so much fun, and I bet a lot of kids will really like it. "I See the Light" is such a beautiful song, and although isn't exactly what I was expecting for the love ballad it's a nice twist.
Maybe it's because I know a lot of the story already, but just listening to the songs I'm getting emotionally invested into the characters of the film. lol

mandy has an amazing disney princess voice, i knew she would have what it takes!
and as much as i love kristen chenoweth, i could not picture her playing this role, or any main disney heroine tbh, her voice is perfect for a secondary comedic character though
now hopefully all the doubters will stfu lol

Some thoughts on the soundtrack. Just purchased it from Amazon and listened to it three or four times, but will focus on the songs right now (I did enjoy the music tracks overall, but it takes a little longer to obtain a definitive opinion on some of the tracks). Feel free to disagree, as this is just one person's opinion:
Mandy sounds fantastic, but I did not like "When Will My Life Begin." I can't quite put my finger on it, but let me try. It sounds too much like a song straight out of High School Musical, too pop-sounding, too neat and loud and well-produced to entirely work successfully as an opener. The ending of the song is much better, as are the two reprises - wished the song was slowed down considerably and a little rougher around the edges.
"Mother Knows Best" is THE big highlight for me. It's vintage, timeless Disney, with some terrific lyrics ("skip the drama, stay with Mama!") and the violins really subtly add to the song's creepy, underhanded vibe. I had never heard of the actress chosen to play Mother Gothel, but she completely becomes the character in this song and has me excited to see the film soon. I am a sucker for a good villain song.

And the reprise is equally terrific.
Ugh. "I've Got a Dream". Is this the best work Alan Menken could do here? Really? The same guy behind clever and charming and endearing songs like "Be Our Guest", "Under the Sea", and "Never Had a Friend"? It's not awful - or maybe it is. The piano work is pretty well-done, and the lyrics are mildly amusing, but it just isn't memorable or as good as it could have been. Should have been left on the cutting-room floor, unless it's remarkably well potrayed in the film. It sounds like a one-note joke that we've seen in countless movies - these big brutes are actually big ol' sensitive guys. Hope I'm wrong.
Now we've all heard "I See the Light". Like I've said before, it's far from bad, but also far from groundbreaking or original and a bit too close to "A Whole New World" for my liking. Those who enjoy traditional love ballads should like this tune - me, I'd prefer something a little offbeat like "Kiss the Girl", "Bella Notte" or last year's "Ma Belle Evanagline" (which Jim Cummings predictably nailed and made far more interesting than this song) everytime. Unless it's a VERY good song like "Beauty and the Beast" or "Can You Feel the Love Tonight".
"Healing Incantation" (which is sang in the film a few times, but I'm speaking of the Moore version) is short but sweet and what I hoped the rest of the soundtrack songs would be, a bit low-key and earthy instead of loud, clumsy, and commercial (minus "Mother Knows Best", which could be placed in any era Disney film and still be a welcome addition). But to each their own.
So overall, an underwhelming score though and a letdown for me considering Alan Menken's ridiculously impressive pedigree. I'm still very excited to see the film, mostly to see how the animation turned out, and because I know I'll love Mother Gothel and Maximus and the rest of the characters. But as far as recent Disney films go, I'd have to say Tangled's score musically does not match up to
The Princess and the Frog or
Toy Story 3.
Total spoilers have changed my mind about "Tangled"

Dear Disney Enthusiasts,
NOTE: I REFUSE to reveal to YOU the spoilers that I'm about to reference! Thank GOODNESS, right?
I have to say that I recently read a blow-by-blow description of THE ENTIRE MOVIE (Although I skimmed through SOME of the paragraphs, suddenly regretful...), so that I know almost ALL of the spoilers that are associated with the movie, and more...
I realized that I actually LIKED the storyline, even though I think that it'll hit home too closely with my family (I'm too much like Rapunzel, and MORE than one of my close relatives are too much like Mother Gothel, with regards to the Jeckel and Hyde personality issue..., etc.); I also think that it's far too psychologically domestic violence-related, and too violence-related, for the youngsters!
If I HAD been the voice of Rapunzel, I'd have been reduced to tears during more than one scene, and my acute relationship to Rapunzel's situation might have caused me to have a total breakdown during a recording session; I am exactly like Rapunzel, because "Mother Gothel/ Rapunzel"-type relationships have haunted me for forever, and because I am an un-kissed, un-dated, 100% inexperienced individual who has always loved to sing, and who has yet to find her "Flynn Rider". I'm really only different from Rapunzel because I sort of chose to live in a "tower", and because I have brown eyes and shoulder-length light brown hair...and a slightly less mature figure, etc. I'm also much older than Rapunzel, but, then again, many of us are either younger, or older...than 18.
When I watch this movie with two of the several "Mother Gothels" from my family, it'll be like looking into a mirror! Scary, fer shurr!
Thank you in advance for your replies.

He didn't look like that in person so much. I think the bad lighting plus snap shot camera add to that. haha.

It was only one wig but lots of extensions and hair pieces

I'm not sure how many in total!

I'VE GOT BETTER FOR YOU !
DON'T LOOK FURTHER GUYS ! THE COMPLETE SOUNDTRACK IS ON YOUTUBE
HERE IS ONE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmPdz4onjYM
THEN, FOR the rest, just write "Disney Tangled Soundtrack" in the search zone... and enjoy
As for me
- the general score is interesting with its light concertina, guitar and piano and celtic flavor but as a whole i think it's quite banal and serious, like any other composer would do, no unforgettable gimmick or pattern or character musical themes Menken was doing in a fresh original way with Hercules, Hunchback, Pocahontas and his 3 first Disney Hits, i don't speak about songs, but only score...
- We don't have the real prologue music here !
- Sorry, we don't have a classic chorus song reprise finale, here it's quite loud but plain
- Only Mother reprise (a bit) and WWMLB reprise 2 (a lot) manage to capture back the classic Disney Drama : with WWMLB reprise 2 we're close to the Belle or Ariel Reprises Chill !!! Miracle !!!!
-Kingdom Dance (except the finale frantic jig) is too much classical mevieval celtic to me, dont' feel the Menken twist we had in the gypsy music of Hunchback.
- Only WWMLB reprise 1 fits the "flower power joni mitchell accoustic guitar flavor" Menken promised. The first version should rather be the radio pop rock cover for End Credits ! It sounds more like Hannah Montana than Chelsea Morning Menken was always refering to. What a waste, because the song is good !
- I've got a dream and Mother Knows Best 1 are funny songs, make me think of Be our Guest, A Guy Like U, or even and surprisingly, for the Gothel Song, Perfect isn't Easy from Oliver and Cie !
- Melody and lyrics of the Healing Songs remain to me the most mystic, magic and beautiful thing Disney had ever had
