It's kind of hilarious how he draws a perfectly beautiful image of Ariel full of personality and then at the end they cut to the Bu-ray cover art, which looks..... less.... than perfect.... to say it nicely.

I would LOVE to hear the opinion of these people on the dvd cover arts. Seriously.

:tlm: Drawn perfectly? I don't mean to sound rude but are we even looking at the same picture? They look anything but perfect.

I so wish this had been the cover...

Now this is perfect (even if it is old)! I love the composition, it doesn't look too crowded yet all the key characters are there and they all look on model and how they should in the film.
I think Ariel looks pretty bad in that cover art. She looks good in the original poster that that VHS cover is copied from, but not on that VHS cover. So yea I guess we disagree.

My only complaint about the VHS cover is that Ariel looks like she is more interested in Sebastian than she is with Eric.

Yeah, it is a bit odd. The Nautilus shell would make you think more of Ursula than Ariel, but I guess it‘s something easy to symbolize the character’s “beautiful voice.” :P

I would think either a shell (like the one used on the Ariel’s Beginning cover behind the title) or the trident or Triton’s palace would be good. I always thought it’d be cool if they used the “Dinglehopper” or the little statue of the two dancing people she looks at in her grotto as symbols, but that doesn’t happen. I suppose they could use a ship, but that would probably too “masculine” for a Disney Princess movie (which is probably how marketing sees this movie). There’s the flower she counts petals from, too, but I doubt they’d use that.

About the shell--I remember thinking it was so odd when they used that for the title back during the Platinum re-release, TLMII re-release, and Ariel's Beginning. I mean, I know the story's underwater, but it wasn't anything I'd ever associated with the movie before. But I actually like it okay now, since that's how Ariel should've been introduced in the "Daughters of Triton" number, so it's not completely random.

I don’t think she looks nearly as bad there as she does in the giant bean-tail cover, personally. Her nose is a bit off, but that's about it to me, whereas her whole lower face looks like Drew Barrymore on the giant fin (Brazilian?) cover. The only thing about Ariel in the original VHS cover that I've ever been annoyed about is her pose. They have her hair blown back like she's at a photoshoot. Both Ariel and Eric are turned into hot models for the cover to me, but besides that, the only real error (imo) is Ursula's gold earrings. I also prefer King Triton to be featured in the covers.

I made this cover a few years ago, and till this day, I think that it's the best disney could ever make.

Lovely cover indeed, that's the photo that I love too ! Maybe a bit too tentacley on the top half? I know that's how the poster is, but seems a bit much on a cover.

This is the one I love:

Though it could also be I have lovely memories of seeing it in 97 on big billboards everywhere and getting beyond excited ... nothing has changed really :P

Flip between the screencaps and you'll see the menus. It's the same one from the Platinum with Ariel sitting on the rock.

Ah, thank you very much!

I do love that menu - I am torn thinking Disney are cheap and not doing something new, but I also love it at at the same time.

John L was even the executive producer of the 3D version ?? Does he EP every darn thing ?

I agree about the menu, even if it's just Disney being lazy, at least it's a beautiful menu and we're getting a whole new restoration.

As for Lasseter, I also LOLed at that...

Hey, he worked for Disney for at least 3 Decades (how do I know this? He helped out with Mickey's Christmas Carol. Yeah, he actually has been around) so I'm not surprised that he's EPing a lot. After all... Disney owns Pixar, Lasseter brought the world of Ghibli to Disney, and... can't think of anything else to state. But yeah, let him EP everything. I wouldn't care. ... cause he's everywhere anyway.

Wait... the 3D credits are included in the 2D version, the version which I'll mainly buy. (wait, did the Lion King and Beauty/Beast 2D Blu-rays have those credits?) ... F*CK. Well, at least that won't stop me from buying the film. It's the film itself I'm more concerned on, not everything else, such as the credits.
