Wish will be loaded with 'legacy nods' to classic Disney films: 'They're all over the movie'

King Magnifico has the look of a classic Disney villain alright! Plus, it's cool that the aspect ratio will be very similar to Sleeping Beauty which hopefully means that Wish will use the widescreen format to its fullest potential. So excited for the upcoming trailer.

I'm so hyped, I hope the movie feels like Tangled or Moana because I love those movies

I need the movie to be an adventure type of story (a oceans eleven type of movie where they steal the wishes with a big plan would also work) because I'm tired of short movies like Encanto or Frozen II

I need time to pass in the movie, feel that the movie means something

I think The Black Cauldron + Atlantis (+ part of Brother Bear too) had the same aspect ratio (or very similar) to Sleeping Beauty, right? So do we know if Wish will be shown in IMAX?

Unfortunately, no. Not in it’s initial release.

But maybe in December or January, like Barbie, it could come out in IMAX.

I agree. Those are my two favorite Disney dresses, by the way. My third one is probably Snow White's, which is not as spectacular as those two, but also very iconic.
Mooky wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 8:12 am I dislike reused names as well. Another pet peeve of mine is when too many main characters have names that start with the same letter (Aurora, Ariel, Alice, Asha, Anita, Anna). I’m fine with it if a character comes from a pre-existing source material, but for original characters they should try to come up with something more unique.
I never realized that, but it's true there are many female Disney protagonists whose names begin with "A." Probably, the filmmakers don't pay much attention to these details when it comes to selecting a name for their main characters.
Pokenonbinary wrote: Mon Sep 25, 2023 4:35 am Edit: now that I think even if Dahlia is of filipina ancestry they will still cast an East asian actor, like they did with Raya that was explicitly South East Asian and not a single cast member was from the region
Well, Kelly Marie Tran at least is from South East Asia, but yes, most of the other actors were from East Asia. It'll also be interesting to see if there's any actor from Spain in the cast, though I don't have high hopes. Most likely, they think that with Ariana DeBose and the actress who voices Amaya they already meet the quota.

The cauldron and the cobwebs also remind of Snow White. In the article, Chris Buck says Magnifico can do other things apart from granting wishes; I wonder what those other things will be. I also wonder what he's doing with the magic spheres in that still. I bet that's from his villain song.

I agree with you, the directors who have no relation to hispanic culture (or literally anyone working in the movie) probably feel like casting USA hispanic people is enough (Ariana fakes being hispanic for diversity points when her biological dad is half Puertorican and she hasn't met him ever in her entire life)

I would be okay if the voice cast was hispanic from hispanic countries, like Sofía Vergara, Salma Hayek etc, those are totally fine choices

I hope that the actress they got for Queen Amaya at least knows how to pronounce spanish right, because most of the time they speak horrible Spanish and sound so cringey

Edit: Wait I just remembered that Jennifer Lee is married to Alfred Molina who has spaniard ancestry, makes sense he would be someone like Asha grandpa

Magnífico and Amaya skin tone changes in every picture and toy (Asha's too but less)

In one pic/toy they're brown skinned and in the other one pale

I know lightning affects skin color in movies but not to this level

I wasn’t sure if I should tell anyone this because they might think it’s kind of random, but I’ve decided to do it now. I’ve been getting into the British TV show Peep Show lately, and two of the distinctive elements of it are that it only contains shots that are from each character’s POV and that you can hear each character’s thoughts as a voiceover. Basically, this has made me want to see a version of Wish in the same format, i.e. where each shot is from a different character’s POV and you can hear their thoughts through a voiceover. Any thoughts on this?

From tomorrow, my favorite time period of a new Disney animated musical release is about to begin. We're gonna get the full trailer, and then clips and featurettes, spoilers from books...
And then the fake critics will post their reactions on social media, the soundtrack will be released, we'll post our thoughts on the songs, and the embargo will be lifted and the real critics will publish their reviews.
Culminating in us, in theaters, watching the film and then post our thoughts here.
Fun times ahead.

It's going to be an interesting two months once the trailer arrives tomorrow. I'm honestly quite happy that we got a straight up fairytale film from WDAS again, it's been a while. Frozen I think was the last time they released a film like this. The difference being that Wish is an original fairytale made from the ground up in comparison to just adapting one.

Let's just hope they actively market the movie from here on out.

Also, they should kick off ticket presales on Monday, October 16th since it's the official day of #Disney100, which is what Wish will be the big finale of.

Farerb, I like the way you put that.

I’m looking forward to all the Easter eggs. If nothing else, picking them out will be fun to geek over.

Better look at the Doorables figures and the Christmas ornament.

The links have been taken down, but I guess the leaked images were these ones, right?

It seems the trailer will reveal many new things. We finally know how Asha knows which magic sphere contains her grandpa's wish. Apparently, the faces of the people who made the wish can be seen in them. And it seems Dahlia indeed works in the royal kitchen.

I don't know what my favorite time period is. Learning about a project for the first time, seeing the first look at the characters, the teaser trailer, first toys, book covers, etc, is also a lot of fun. But it's true that from this moment on a lot more content will be released, and listening to the soundtrack and, of course, finally seeing the film are some of the best parts.

I don't know, Wish doesn't feel like a fairytale film to me, perhaps it's because it's not based on a preexisting story, but maybe it will when I see more from it.
