I don't frequent Cartoon Brew as much as I used to, because they still tend to bring out a lot of the fanboys in the cartoon community.

Anyway, they did bring up two recent articles of interest about America's cartoon audience problem.

When Disney is finally making a new hand drawn animated movie, I say we support it. Spread the word on facebook, twitter, youtube, and et cetera et cetera et cetera. Then will prove Disney that hand drawn has a future and not a dying art.

When they do it'll spread regardless, just like when princess and the frog was anounced. It wouldnt prove a thing though.

Be that as it may, we would have to spread the word. Word of mouth does help.

I don't know why they don't sort of do what DreamWorks does with Ku Fu Panda have it in 3D but use 2D animation for dreams/ flashbacks

They kind of do that at Disney and Pixar, too -- hand-drawn animation has been relegated to end-credits .

Oh yeah.

Dont forget opening credits. Mainly for the monsters movies.

I still wonder why Pixar doesn't put one out, if only because they never have. We know they have people fully capable of it, they bought animation desks from Disney, they made that 2D short for Ratatouille. Several members of the brain trust have made student films using hand drawn.

Don't forget Day & Night. There is also The Legend of Mor'du and George & A.J. but those have very little animation in them.

Whoops, I did forget Day & Night somehow, and that's probably my favorite 2D stuff they've done. heh

As for the The Legend of Mor'du, that might as well have just been an animatic from what I can remember of it.

Well, that's true. I'm glad they have some hand drawn animation here and there. But it would be nicer Disney makes another hand drawn animation movie with the right story and the right time.

They've been doing that since Antz.

That really seems to be the only time they did it with Pixar(unless shark tale?).

Shrek > Dreamworks's F U to Disney Animation

Finding Nemo > Dreamworks tried to rival it with Shark Tale

The Wild > Madagascar Madagascar was the better movie but it was Disney's original idea.

Cars/ Planes > The recent Turbo

I sort of see some familiarity with Ku Fu Panda and Mulan but maybe that's just me ??? Like when Po is training the students in The Secret of the Furious Five special and he mentions that you have to be strong and calm like Mulan II

How could you possibly have come to that conclusion from that post? It's merely stating that DreamWorks Animation has tackled similar subjects at around the same time at Disney's animated features.

Jeffrey Katzenberg was booted from/left Disney shortly after The Lion King was released. He would have had zero involvement in Disney shutting down its hand-drawn animation unit.

If not Disney, I hope some other animation studio revives handdrawn in an amazing groundbreaking feature that will blow all the tired CG competition away. Disney just seems too cowardly to do it. They'd rather do the same 'safe' CG over and over. With every CG feature they say they've done something new and groundbreaking but it still just looks CG, and while their CG may be more organic and beautiful, does the general audience even notice? Movies like Despicable Me 2 have inferior CG and make so much more money (I hated DM2!). Maybe Dreamworks will be brave enough to do it. I haven't liked most of the Dreamworks animated movies apart from HTTYD, but they do seem to be Disney's main competition in the animated department, and if they do an incredible, successful hand drawn feature, I feel like Disney may follow suit, hopefully with an even more superior one.

Stole Disney never had a Ramayana adaption in development and Dreamworks has been working on it for 3 years.

Disney couldn't do that anyways. Dreamworks got A. R. Rahman to do the music, Disney would get Randy Newman.

Disney just seems too cowardly to do it. They'd rather do the same 'safe' CG over and over.

Of course they are cowards! John Lasseter needs to stop acting like a baby and do another hand drawn animated movie. Those general audiences of today are very stuuuuuuupid!
