I'd say Blu-Ray will be fine for the next 20-25 years. We will soon be getting into the realm of such a resolution that the human eye can't tell the difference with a TV. The human eye can see about 576 megapixels at one time I believe, and for that we would probably need something like an IMAX screen at home and I don't see that happening, even in the year 3000. Plus the fact that every movie up til now wouldn't be able to display well above 4k or 8k. Watching a current movie on a 576 megapixel screen would be like seeing a whole load of pixels. Think of blowing a small image up on Paint.

You're not really buying the film for the features, you're buying the film for the film. Get over it. Sorry to sound so harsh, but it's the truth.
Remember the days when my VHS had Deems Taylor's voice? You're right, I buy the film for the film as originally presented (which we're not getting), but I also buy the film for it's supplements. So this release, judging strictly by the current press release, fails on both counts.

One extra per film; wow. Seriously, how can they even call it a Special Edition DVD. It's more barebones then the annual barebones re-package of the shunned films. I guess we now know why the films are packaged together. There is absolutely NO incentive for current owners of the Fantasia 2000 DVD to want to pick up this new set, as Fantasia is the only film receiving any PQ/AQ upgrades.

It's the Lilo & Stitch debacle all over again. Promised one thing, delivered another and if it's anything like that release, it will be years before we get what we were originally promised.

Yep, and while the artwork is beautiful, it's very distracting. I never use it.

...........
Sure, there are TVs out now capable of 3840x2160 resolution. But I don't see them becoming standard for a while yet, and Blu-Ray isn't exactly restricted by space. New BDXL discs (none released yet) are capable of 100GB and 128GB. Some players can already support them, yet some players will be obsolete.
strange. I've never even heard that the PROTOTYPES were made, let alone an actual release of such sets.

Those discs aren't for commercial purposes, so we'll never see those. And TVs that can support that kind of resolutions need to be huge to see the difference, let alone the complete lack of content.

I also think the cover art for the BD release is way too busy and looks like something done in Photoshop.

I am not one of the ones complaining about the lack of features. As long as we are getting the movies on Blu-Ray, I am satisfied.

No Fantasia World??? That is the thing I was looking forward to the most from this release! I just lost interest in purchasing this release. Way to go Disney.....

borders that somehow complement the visual.i feel like watching moving postcards. btw, im in a rather unforgiving mode for this release because of the recently disappointing james and the giant peach.its all downhill from here, especially for a 'diamond edition'.

2 MOVIE COLLECTION
INCLUDES FANTASIA AND FANTASIA 2000

to

Ewww....

That's exactly what I said when I saw that pic, a very flat, monotone "ew".

That just looks weird and doesn't make any sense (most of the Fantasia characters are on the Fantasia 2000 side and vice versa).

Hopefully that is not indicative of what the Blu-Ray will look like in the US.

Oh crap.

Dang, they couldn't even get the cover right?

They love making things tougher than what they are!

Solution - just use the 'Fantasia Anthology' format and have a simple, contemporary slipcase with a one base image, and then taking up the rest of area with 'The Fantasia Collection'. If Disney want to attract new buyers to the series, then the first stop is the original film and, judging from the UK artwork, a wonderful cover that appeals to everybody. But if you're going to buy the combo pack, then you're obviously a fan of Fantasia 2000. And if you're a fan of that film, then that means you're aware of the original Fantasia...

It's just common sense. Maybe Disney should spend more time in the Logic department than the Photoshop one...

Fantasia 2010?

I guess the '2010' on this cover art is a mistake: http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/1622 ... oduct.html. For a moment there I thought they had just replaced the title 'Fantasia World' with 'Fantasia 2010'

To be honest I'm not too surprised that Disney decided to put out special editions of Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 that are light on actual special features. Ever since The Walt Disney Legacy collection they've changed their minds between the press releases and release dates. I can hardly believe anything they say anymore, and I'm just fed up of being disappointed. However, if you think of it, only a few of the 'Platinum edition' DVDs actually lived up to the standard set by the Snow White release. Lion King for instance was a terrible disappointment. It had some good looking menus (and some standard crappy 3D intros), and all the featurettes was cut into pieces and scattered around the disc.

(The most troubling thing in my opinion however, is not that they put out lazy home video releases, but that their new movies fail to match the quality of previous movies, and most of it is due to lackluster, cliched storytelling. The day Disney decide to do something like Grave of the Fireflies I will cry tears of joy)

Good thing I got the original Fantasia Anthology on DVD. I bought it at least five years ago. It's definitely my favourite Disney box set along with a few of the Treasure tins

Yo-Yo Flamingo

Tin Soldier

City Life

Whale Finale

I think you guys are all going crazy over nothing. I'm sure that within the next year we will be able to download all of the features we were promised, including Fantasia World, through BD Live. You don't like that, sorry, but it's the future of bonus features as we know them.

To sort of break away from topic regarding the bonus features, am I the only one who absolutely loves the cover? In some ways, this is the type of image I was hoping for with the Fantasia Anthology having several characters from both films sharing the space with one another. And i've always wanted to see the Fantasia/2000 segments characters in some ways interacting with one another because that's pretty much what happened with the posters for the original film. And I like this you have Mickey in the center with Donald and the Sprite looking up at him, the Mushrooms coming from behind the Sprite and the little fawns and Ben Ali Gator and Hyacinth dancing with the whales behind them. To me this is the definitive Fantasia art, celebrates both feature films in a classic way.
