I suppose this is a decent plan... perhaps some might consider it morally ambiguous, though.

However, I'd agree with the person who suggested bringing it back a day or two later. Most retail places give you a couple weeks to return something like a DVD, anyway, provided it's sealed. By waiting a few days, you could bring it back yourself without getting your friend involved, and probably deal with a different clerk in the process. Also, the receipt records the day and time of the original purchase... so if the clerk were particularly observant, then they'd notice the item was bought that same day, an hour (or however long were were going to wait) ago. Alternatively, if this is a retail store with multiple locations (eg. HMV, etc.) then you can go to a seperate location and be sure of dealing with a different clerk.

However, whichever way you do it, it's best to wait 2 or 3 days to return it. That way you can just say it was a gift, but you recently found out the person you bought it for had received it from somebody else.

My plans for tonight include using my Aladdin slipcover to start a bonfire for a weenie roast.

Sure, it's a great plan... if you have no ethics.

I did this with "Lady and the Tramp" at a Borders. I feel no qualms about it. You might want to be sure about their return policy, though, to avoid getting store credit if you don't want it. Paying with cash is often a safe bet.

I see nothing wrong it. You bought the DVD so you should get the slipcover if you want it. As others have said, though, you should wait a day or two before returning it.

I wish Disney would just manufacture all the DVD's with covers or get rid of them completely. I don't go nuts over slipcovers, but I do prefer to have the entire product, and don't appreciate having to settle for less just because I don't always have to cash to buy a title as soon as it hits the shelf.

Well, if it's locked, it wouldn't be by me! Consider yourself fortunate I'm not a mod, otherwise every slipcover thread would be permanently deleted! The only thing I'd like from the mod powers is the ability to merge threads. That way whenever I point out the older thread to a new thread, I wouldn't have to wait for someone to come and merge it. Then I'd be Search Nazi and Thread Merger-er.

Or, you could simply *gasp* not bother with the slipcover and be glad you already have the two-disc DVD set which is one of the best Disney has put out and the lack of a piece of cardboard with a frickin flap should not make it seem like a lesser DVD compared to inferior slipcover'd DVDs like The Lion King!

Haha, I know you're not a mod and I am glad for that (just kidding)! Well I just got back and none of the stores had Aladdin, so the plan was a no go.

Funny you should mention The Lion King's slipcover. I NEED a slipcover for that, too! But I know that I won't find one in stores because it's been OOP for 2 years! My friend has TLK with a slipcover, so maybe they'll give it to me (I can only hope).

i did that with four movies and it works like a charm. aladdin has been in every f.y.e. store ive been in, and thats like 3 . make shure you check out the racks for used and family dvds. the best way to fool the clerk is to come back the next day or at least the next shift. most chain stores will let you return items to there other branches. so take advantage of multi locations.
p.s. wal-mart will take anything back at anytime without a sales draft for store credit. so if nothing else you can get a gift card

Hey Disneyfreak! Long time, no talk!

It sounds fine with me. I'm actually thinking of doing this with Sleeping Beauty (having it transfered at Gamestop, buying it and returning a non-slipcovered version. It's just a matter of FINDING a copy with a cover... ). I also agree that you should return it the next day, but be sure to return it at a different time than when you bought it (to avoid getting the same person and take advantage of timeshifts!) I mean, if you paid good money for the DVD, you should be entitled to have a piece of cardboard surrounding the case.

If I were you, I would focus on getting Cindy II, and the slipcovers for SB and Beauty and the Beast. SB and BATB are known to be two of the hardest Disney DVD's to find (nowadays) with a slipcover. I got lucky when I found a copy of BATB at a gamestop complete with slipcover, had it transfered, yet the slipcover was pretty bent up. But I'm still happy to have it. I would also focus on getting a slipcover for TLK ASAP, as it's getting harder to find with the slipcover. (Once again, I got lucky and found a pristine copy of TLK, complete with slipcover, used, for $9.99).

As for the LI of The Jungle Book, I too am searching for it because of the change in aspect ratio (it is one of my all-time favorite DAC's, and I NEED it in it's OAR on DVD!!) But I might wait to get it until AFTER the platinum edition comes out. Then, those with the LI's will want to sell them so that they can get the new and improved Platinum Edition. That's what I'm thinking of doing, anyway.


Have I ever mentioned how thrilled I am that all of the Disney DVD's that I own which are supposed to have a slipcover, has it with only one exception? (And hopefully sometime soon there won't be any exceptions!)

Which is precisely what you'll be getting this October.

I actually went inside gamestop to see if they had ANY dvds and no such luck

I also went in MovieStop and found The Lion King Platinum edition but without the slip cover. They also had The Lion King 2: Simbas Pride WITH a slip cover.

I searched for BATB Platinum Edition a used dvd but they did not have any

I throw my slipcovers in the trash.

Do you know, I believe the plan you outlined in the 1st post is actually the plot to Ocean's 13. Except they're not going to hang around in the food hall for a couple of hours before taking it back. No, in Ocean's 13 they hang around in a Casino for a couple of hours before taking the DVD back and hanging onto their slipcover swag. And they do it 13 times, so everyone is happy and gets a Disney slipcover.

I hope Warner Bros, Soderberg, Clooney, Pitt et al sue the pants of you for copying their idea.

Which DVD sets had a slipcover?

Personally I really do not care for slipcovers that much, but if my dvds come with them, I keep them on my dvds instead of tossing them.

i dont think they did but i am just asking did chicken little, valiant, or home on the range come with slipcovers?

It does no good to send them an email. They just send you a rude, formal letter telling you to call their customer service number.
