Ok guys, I know you are saying Eric doesn't pick Vanessa over Ariel. But can't he hynotized pick her? Can't it be hynotized picking? I don't know what else to call what he does to Vanessa over Ariel.

Also, UmbrellaFish, you are right Ursula's own self, and thus, sexiness, are in Vanessa, but I think she also thinks her sexiness will lure Eric away more than, I dunno, the virgin princess look. And also, Vanessa and Ariel don't look the same, but they do look a lot alike and that is the point!

I mean, it just makes no sense to keep saying someone is picking something when they are stripped of their free will and hypnotized under a spell. I don’t know how many times people have to say that.

And it absolutely blows my mind that people think Ariel and Vanessa lookalike because I’ve never thought that. It’s like saying the Bimbettes are modeled after Belle because they have “Disney Princess big eyes” even though that’s just a characteristic of Disney Renaissance women. I think hearing Jodi Benson’s voice come out of her mouth is playing tricks with people’s brains because objectively there is little physical resemblance between the two characters at all. Every feature is drawn differently.

I’ve been poring over images of Vanessa and the only similarity I can see is sometimes her eyes are drawn like Ariel’s— and then other times, within the same scene even, they are drawn differently with a distinct oval shape.

I'd say they look alike enough for someone who's only seen Ariel sing to them once.

Duster, let's bring in Cinderella for this one. In Twist in Time, did Charming choose Anastasia?

He kind of does, but, ok, I will give. Eric doesn't choose nor does Charming when under their spells.

JeanGreyForever, yes, Ariel's hair looked like a dark brown when he saw her singing to him.

Vanessa's eyes and mouth resemble Ursula's. Her face and chest are more angular than Ariel's.

Yes she resembles Ariel she is not an exact clone.

Between the two, I prefer Cameron.

Eric is like the easiest role to cast. This whole situation is ridiculous. The filmmakers seem to be lacking a coherent vision for this project. It's already kind of a mess. Other names that were reportedly considered or auditioned for the role were Jordan Fisher, Jacob Elordi, Timothee Chalamet, Cole Sprouse, and Niall Horan.

Oh, they better get Cameron Cuffe. He's the only guy they've looked at that I've thought was attractive and isn't that the qualification to play Eric really?

EDIT: Just saw your post, Sotiris. I would've loved Chalamet, just because I'm a fan of his in general; I can only assume he rejected them? Niall Horan is cute.

Halley Bailey is only 19 so they probably want to find a leading actor close to her in age. Although Cameron Cuffe is 26 so I don't see how 25 is really any better.

At this point, it would be easier to just say who hasn't auditioned for the role.

Yes know Jago spoke in the new Aladdin be barely !

Scuttle, Flounder, and probably the rest of the animals will speak so I would bet a lot of money on Flotsam and Jetsam speaking.

Disney audition David Corenswet so at least you can say you auditioned David Corenswet.

He’s a newcomer from Netflix’s The Politician and he’s gorgeous and a traditional Prince Eric type.

Speaking of the sea creatures, I hope to goodness the people handling this remake understand that nobody wants to see a realistic looking crab and flounder as Ariel’s sidekicks. They’ve gone with a literal approach on every other remake but it’d a real mistake to do that with Mermaid.
