"Loyal, Brave, and True" is the only thing I would root for from this atrocity. I will definitely check out Yifei Liu's version of "Reflection" once it ends up on YouTube.

I don’t know if anyone else saw South Park’s premiere other day, but they took the piss out of Disney’s selling-out to China yet again (one thing that happened is—and this can be offensive, so be warned before reading—they showed Mickey Mouse in China having sex with the bat that caused the Coronavirus. ). They even mentioned the new Mulan, which is the main reason I put this here. :P

EDIT: SNL mocked the lack of songs and Mushu during Weekend Update the other day, too. Bowen Yang is hilarious, btw. I hope he has a long career.

I caught that too. "No songs, no Mushu, no $30 from me, Disney+." :D

Getting out-performed by old shows like The Legend of Korra and Grey's Anatomy. In its defense, it looks like nothing else from Disney+ is on that list, so I guess they just don't have the kind of base Netflix and other streaming platforms have, period.

Perhaps it would have been better if they hadn't responded at all. They're just making it worse by trying to defend themselves.

I've read that "Loyal, Brave, and True" has become the highest-charting solo Christina single since "Not Myself Tonight." I'm happy for the song because the vocal is really nice and the bridge / ending make me tear up.

Anyone think that Lieu was slightly too old for Mulan at 31 since Mulan was actually 16 in the original film or do you think that wasn't an issue??

(Added note.) Mulan being an awkward teenager was part of her charm. She was figuring everything out and went on a journey. Here she was already a graceful, superheroic, accomplished martial artist. :(

It's interesting that Disney believes Chinese audiences are these ultra-conservative, traditionalist people when in reality they are much more progressive and sophisticated than Hollywood gives them credit. The creators of Kung Fu Mulan pointed that out too.
It might surprise foreigners to hear that Luo’s team sought to highlight Mulan’s individuality above all, going against the stereotype that China only values the collective. “In many versions, Mulan’s slogan is ‘I will bring honor to my family,’ but we wanted to explore what she herself wants beyond that sense of responsibility,” Luo said. “Young people here today really value individuality, so we emphasized that.”

Speaking to Variety before the Disney live-action film’s global debut, Gold Valley COO Allen Tsang elaborated on this point, saying that it’s outdated to think young Chinese would be attracted to old-school rhetoric about “duty” and “honor.”

“Americans feel that we want to see the most traditional version of ‘Mulan,’ but when you look at [recent blockbuster animations] ’Nezha’ or ‘Monkey King: Hero is Back,’ it’s clear that what we want is to update old stories and connect them more to what’s contemporary and the modern lives of young people.”

Yeah, it's a shame. Dumbo doesn't deserve to be quite that low.

According to Billboard, the new "Reflection" is higher at #20 whereas "Loyal, Brave, True" is at #24 on the Digital Song Sales chart.

That's good news. :D The info I posted was taken from a music forum. I think it was in reference to some chart called Adult Contemporary / Hot AC. The "Reflection (2020)" release didn't have its own thread there, but it might be doing better on that chart than "Loyal, Brave, and True," too.

I just think it wasn't a very enjoyable movie then really ? That's the only explanation. It wasn't received very well, the reviews were pretty awful ( or just branded it dull ), and it had no buzz about it. There was not one person who I knew who was upset that the release date was pushed back and back, then onto Disney+. I'm sure it will be watched when it's on Disney+ as part of their catalogue, but to pay the additional cost, it was a firm no from me.

And I love the animated Classic Mulan too, this one just wasn't my vibe I don't think.
