Interesting. I wonder for which country the change is being made and whether the change is of a cameo character due to copyright issues or if it's a cultural thing.

My impression is it might be a character that's simply doing a handsignal or sign that doesnt exist in one or more foriegn countries, or wouldnt be compatible with the dubs ala Sulley convincing Boo to got to sleep.

A lot of hard work and extreme talent goes into a movie like this. Rich Moore is a veteran of 2D animation and won emmies for his work, so why let a difference in medium really sway you one way or another?

At this point, most people working in animation appear to have less of a bias than the rest of us.

THANK YOU. I've been trying to say that for what feels like forever, and no one ever seems to comment on it. To most animators, it's ALL animation.

But seriously now, this is the stupidest comment I have ever read, and proves even further that this whole 2D/3D debate is getting ridiculous and that people have no real idea of how things work. Andrew and SWillie already made the comments for me, but I want to add that people that are studying animation are studying ALL the formats within the medium. 2D, 3D, stop motion, ACTUAL FILM HISTORY, many things, so it is more than just 2D.

So like I said, it is very stupid to make such a biased claim all because of the format. Walt Disney was a man that experimented with many mediums. The minute he had the chance to do live action, he jumped on it. He created a theme park using state of the art technology. He saw television as a way to promote his films, theme park, other shows and more. He gave us the nature documentary film. He felt that he could do a lot more with the medium and thus made his first full length animated movie. Hell, Walt was on the verge of abandoning his animated features, but kept making them because a lot of people asked him to stay with them.

I am also pretty sure that had it not been for Pixar, Walt would have at least made his own CG short just to experiment with the medium.

What I am getting at Disney fans are denouncing the fact that the animation studio is moving away from the classic medium into other mediums when the company itself was funded on the idea of moving onwards with new ideas.

In short, you don't have to see this movie, you can prefer the 2D movies just fine. But to make such a statement just shows how ignorant people can be about Disney and animation in general if they wish ill upon the people that produced them.

I agree.

While the fantasy side of me would love Disney to cater to MY every whim, at the end of the day, Disney is a business. Businesses MUST make money or they go out of business. Businesses must cater to what the majority of their customer base want and not just to the desires of their superfans. Unfortunately, superfans just do not generate enough revenue to sustain businesses for the long haul.

And if the public seems to be clamoring for CGI, Disney is going to make CGI. Now Disney can try here or there to introduce nostalgic throwbacks to things that were charming at one time (such as releasing Frankenweenie in black and white) Disney cannot be profitable if the general public wants one thing and it continuously gives the public something else.

As for the animators, while doubtless there are some who get nostalgic for certain things, I would think the majority of them simply view CGI as the evolution of the medium similar to how black and white gave way to color, shorts (more or less) gave way to feature films, whatever the old technique was gave way to CAPS, etc.

Personally, I'm a little disappointed that 2D will be rare (because I really enjoy it), but CGI features seems preferable to no features at all which is what will happen if Disney insists on delivering products the general public doesn't want to see.

Disney is not some sort of unemployed person that needs our money. Did you all see their stock? They're doing just fine.

I would only avoid the film if you aren't interested in it. Admittedly, a film being 3D can be a con. But I wouldn't avoid it if you like other things you've seen about it (story/characters/adverts/etc.).
