I actually got that vibe from the recent trailer, that she is really manipulative and making King Stefan seem badder than he actually is.

The way she says the "I too shall bestow a gift on the child" line is just so weird. Everything else sounds fine.

Am I the only one who thinks, since in this film Maleficent is the one who curses Aurora to sleep until true love's kiss...that Maleficent should say death-like sleep, not sleep-like death? I mean...she's not dead, she's asleep.

My mouth popped open slightly when she said the never be blue line....I mean, come on...really? REALLY?

^I enjoy the epic awfulness of The Room for about everything in it.

But I disagree that "My wish is that you'll never be blue" is bad screenwriting at all, it could be worse..

I'm still in 2 minds about seeing this. My boyfriend is up for it and I'm slowly coming around but I can't deny some stuff I've read on this thread totally puts me off. Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorites and I don't think I could be satisfied with the supposed story change.

I like this idea. I could get behind this idea. Be a good twist.

Don't forget, those who have read the script, that the "she'll never be blue" line is a reference to that fairy accidentally turning a woman blue earlier in the film. I'm gonna guess that moment has stayed, hence the awkward line phrasing. In the script, before she said that line, she looked back at the blue woman, who was in attendance. In that sense it makes the line...funny?

That was a strange bit of humor from the leaked script, but I think the kids could laugh at that though.

From the reports and trailers that we have seen so far, it's clear now about who exacty wrote these scenes: John Lee Hancock re-wrote the beginning parts during reshoots, as for Linda Woolverton and Paul Dini, they both wrote everything else. I read a comment on this board on why Linda Woolverton is a hack, and I'm like... not really. Sure her scripts for Alice and the leaked version of Maleficent weren't great but they both could've been so much worse (I'm looking at you Melissa Rosenberg and Uwe Boll who are the dictionary pictures of the biggest screenwriting HACKS in Hollywood history).

I'm not defending her at all, in fact I agree with some that she's been overrated amongst the company and some people who think that her screenplay to Beauty and the Beast was what helped it become a classic when it was obviously not the case.

But there are far, FAR WORSE writers in Hollywood on my list and Woolverton isn't among them, I'm on the "meh" scale with her.

We're going to have to disagree, I think. In my opinion, Beauty is the best-authored of the so-called Renaissance films, and the quality of the script is one of the reasons it got a Best Picture nod.

But you're certainly entitled to your opinion. (I'd also rather do Sondheim or Kander & Ebb than pretty much anything in the Rodgers & Hammerstein canon, so--de gustibus non est disputandum.)

But what about Howard Ashman, Roger Allers, Brenda Chapman, Chris Sanders, Joe Ranft and so many others who were story people on Beauty? Sure Linda did write the screenplay but that could be changed in an animated movie by the story people (which is why Linda and Roger were in some fights about the story, which Peter Schnider made them work in the same room together and when Linda came to work with Allers and Chapman she saw how the story process was done, she began to understand how it worked and then she felt afterwards like she was a part of it, so no bad Disney blood was spilt after that).

But Paul Dini and Linda worked together on the revisions for Maleficent which (from the trailers) already looks better than the leaked script from 2 years ago.

EDIT: At first I thought your post was a sarcastic one, my apologies. I think Woolverton should write a screenplay of her own book: Running Before the Wind. That way she can avoid the hate and scorn of fans of the works she did adaptations on.

And by the way, this commercial spoils the fact that the king is 'the bad one'. I have seen enough of footage by now, I just hope Disney will not release a lot more and spoil the entire movie.

I see the new TV Spot is being honest about what they're ripping off.
