It would be interesting to see how the second round of the PEs will fare sales wise. I can't believe how fast 8 years have gone by! It's probably because I'm older now, because, for instance, the 8 years gap between the first two releases of "The Little Mermaid" (1990-1998) seemed like forever.Deco King wrote:Does anyone here know how sales of the new Snow White Blu Ray are going they should be doing very well considering the discounts applied on www.amazon.com !!!
I thought the DVD didn't come out until late November. Do you mean the DVD cased Blu-Ray combo pack?Had quite a time trying to get the "Snow White" Blu-ray combo at Big W for the advertised $28.98 price (much cheaper than anywhere else, where it ranges from $37 at Kmart to $42 at Target). No copies at all to be found on the store-floor - they still hadn't unpacked them! Waited whilst they raided the stock room. Turns out they only had 10 Blu-rays in total! Stacks of the DVD though.
DVD and Blu-ray came out together in Australia this week.circusbass wrote:I thought the DVD didn't come out until late November. Actually JB-Hifi had it for $30. One dollar more expensive, not too shabby!Cordy_Biddle wrote:Gawd!....

Didn't receive the bonus pillowcase (a minor loss in my opinion) but the combo is a real steal for less than $30.

And how many people did they anger with this exactly? And if the consumers don't bother to read (either press releases on the internet, or the actual packaging), how is that Disney's fault?goofystitch wrote:Well, last weeks sales figures are in. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was not only the highest selling Blu-Ray of the week, but was the highest selling packaged media of the week, beating out any DVD sales. This is the first time a Blu-Ray release has been at the top of the home entertainment sales for any week since the format launched.
And in my opinion, it is all because of Disney's horribly deceptive DVD packaging of the film. I hope they are happy about how many people they angered with this. The numbers are phenomenal, but they did it at the cost of consumer trust. The Blu-Ray is amazing, possibly the best they've done in terms of buns features and the restoration is spectacular, but I think what they did was dirty.
If you just read the cover, it doesn't state anywhere that there are only dvds in it. It clearly states what's exactly inside the package. Everyone has internet these days, so looking up some more information isn't the hardest thing in the world. And most people are really interested in the movie, anyway. And that's included.SpringHeelJack wrote:But in all fairness, wasn't the point of selling blu-rays in the smaller blue cases so that someone doesn't think "Ah, a DVD!" and buy it despite not owning a blu-ray player? If I were unfamiliar with the promotion, saw that "Snow White" was being released, and bought a version of it sold in a DVD package, one clearly different from the blu-ray nearby, I would really expect to get DVDs, not two blu-rays and a bonus DVD of the film. Seriously, can someone say how they think packaging the Blu-ray in a standard DVD box is somehow a good thing? There's no reason that was done except to get people to buy it.
I would buy it if it was in English but since i don't know any French, i just can't waste all that money just to look at the pictures. There should have been an English version of the book as well.Deco King wrote:The paperback edition of Pierre Lambert's tribute to Walt Disney's Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs
Blanche Neige is out on October 22nd buy it on www.amazon.fr here is a link too the new book with page examples this is a MAGNIFICENT book : http://www.editionsdelamartiniere.fr/ Just buy it!!!
Yes, this was a marketing ploy from Disney in order to confuse buyers into buying it. But all kinds of companies very often employ questionable tactics to sell their product so it is left up to the consumer to be careful about what they buy.SpringHeelJack wrote:Yes, I understand that. But I have secret- not everyone researches their DVDs on the internet before they buy them! Crazy, I know, right, but there it is. To a point, yes, I absolutely agree that you should read what you're buying, but really, there still doesn't seem to be a reason as to why it was packaged that way. You shouldn't have to sit and compare two identical releases packaged differently. Also, Disney never really said in their commercials that a two-disc DVD was coming out seven weeks later. Again, if you did your online research, yes, you'd know, but why should you really have to do all that just to buy the product you want? And again, I'd really like to hear anyone postulate as to why it was ever released in DVD case.
Yes, and that's true, but again, I would criticize them for it too. I know it's up to the consumer, but it's like if I had a box that said "Chocolate Chip Cookies and Brownies" and opened it discover a half a cookie and and two brownies, I'd feel a little gypped.sotiris2006 wrote:Yes, this was a marketing ploy from Disney in order to confuse buyers into buying it. I thought that too, but it's not like they did that for "Pinocchio" or "Sleeping Beauty" or "Meet the Robinsons". Possibly it could be a Diamond exclusive thing, but I would wager that in ten years the Diamond Blu-ray "Pinocchio" isn't going to be in a DVD case sold next to a Blu-ray case.sotiris2006 wrote:The only other reason that i can think of for the release of the DVD packaging is that some collectors complain that the blu-ray cases ruin the uniformity of their DVD collection (or even that this disturbs the Feng Shui of their room). In this way, they can have their blu-rays in the same packaging with their rest of their DVD collection.
