Something that bothers me in the clip released, is Merida making fun of Young MacGuffin's weight. She says "I bet he wishes he was tossing cabers" and laughs at him. It's mean and immature of her, especially since MacGuffin looks like he's a shy, nice guy.

I'll be frank.. I loved this clip. Pixar couldn't have picked a better clip to show the movie off. To me, it tells us a lot about what to expect regarding Merida, her family and the conflict of the movie.

I loved the relationship portrayed between Merida and the king. Like someone already said earlier, it shows that she loves her father but has a lot of issues with her mother who expects her to be very regal when her spirit dictates otherwise.

I loved the dress ripping. To me it represents the restrains they put on her. The fact that she couldn't do the archery stance until the dress ripped just shows how much of a free spirit she is.

Finally, I love how the final arrow destroys the last one. Yeah it's a cliched idea and representation of one archer being better than the other, but it was done very, very well.

Regarding the whole mooning joke, it's just ONE joke, likely the only one in the whole movie. It is clear that a lot of slapstick and character humor will be in the movie, but much like Up it will likely have a great balance of drama and comedy, with the character drama being on the front. So it is rather silly to claim that the movie is much like "Shrek" since, again, it was just one joke.

And yes, she was being feisty in that one line. I bet the idea behind the whole story is that she wants to be this wild and free spirit, but the journey she takes on makes her realize that there are responsibilities to take on as well as gain strength of character. So maybe for the first few minutes of the film she is cocky and feisty but learns to become a better person at the end.

One last thing... I hope Disney has a face character of Merida at the parks when the movie premieres. I think they can pull it off. If Rapunzel, who has far more exaggerated features than Merida, can be turned into a convincing face character, so can Merida. She would be great at California Adventure and the Pixar Lot in Hollywood Studios.

There are rumors that Merida will be taking Rapunzel's spot in Magic Kingdom and Rapunzel will move in with the rest of the princesses at Town Square Theater.

I fail to understand the concept of how any one particular gag seems to automatically turn any modern Disney film into a Shrek wannabe.

It's not as bad as what I thought she had said but still is a bit insensitive considering her own father is a 'big' guy too. In any case, it's not a big deal.

Speaking of MacGuffin, am I the ONLY one that finds it hilarious that there are two characters named MacGuffin in the movie? I can't help but think that they will drop a special piece of story that will move the plot forward.

It's because they're father and son. The archers are the sons of the clan leaders and they share the same name.

I have to disagree that Rapunzel has more exaggerated features. The only exaggerated feature on Rapunzel are her oversized eyes. Merida's got a really weird head shape that's wider than it's long, which makes her just as unrealistic looking if not more than Rapunzel. And even though her eyes are smaller and more "normal" sized, they are still round and cartoony looking.

I took it to mean that he's not archer material (which we soon discover), he's got strong arms and hence tossing cabers is more his forte...

I know they are father and son, that's not what I find funny. It's the fact that they are named MacGuffin that I find funny, because MacGuffin is the name given to items that tend to move the narrative and tends to confuse people regarding its meaning.

It also helps that the Nostalgia Chick used to have a character named Lord MacGuffin when she reviewed Dune and The Fifth Element.

I know. It's an obvious tongue-in-cheek reference. The same goes for Macintosh. I highly doubt that the MacGuffin name has anything to do with the film other than being just a humorous reference.

Actually believe it or not Macintosh,Macguffin,and even Dingwall are all legitimate Scottish last names.Just go google Dingwall and show that Pixar didn't just make it up so they could make a meaningfull name for the least bright clan leader.
