while the disney theme parks would be nowhere without the disney films, LIKEWISE, walt disney pictures probably wouldn't be as popular or relavent today if the disney theme parks weren't also so relavent and popular today. sure, the films came first, but first isn't always "best." i'm not out to change anyone else's "humble" opinions, and neither is PeterPanfan i'm sure, we're just trying to defend our opinions, just as you are, ariel'sprince. but in the end, they are JUST opinions, so arguing about it is kind of pointless.
as far as the merchandise thing goes, disney dvd's CAN be cannot buy/sell one, carry one, deal one, trade one, etc., but that doesn't make it ONLY merchandise, as people who enjoy them will agree. and the parks are sometimes used to promote the films, but that isn't their ONLY purpose.
just voicing my opinion on the subject. thank you.
ANYWAYS, back to topic, that dvd/book set looks REALLY neat, and very pretty. is it supposed to look like the book in the beginning of the film?

While I do enjoy Disney World and love giong their with my family there are TONS of gift shops, and after every important ride you get out of there are gift shops there as well lol.
So I say it goes hand in hand.

I think what
Ariel'sprince meant was not that the parks and TV shows and Broadway shows are all about promoting and selling the movies, but they are things made after the films, that come off from the films. So the movies will always be the original, and the movies are also longer experiences, and are meant to be more moving experiences than the rides. Also, the park rides are like copies of the movies, so to like the copy more than the original which has much more movement, emotion and, well, story, is just blasphemy. The movies just have
more in them, though that part is arguable, I guess.
And for movies based on the rides,
Skellington or Sparrow, in most cases the rides were better than the movies, like The Country Bears and The Haunted Mansion! So that is yet another case of the originals being better than the copies! Pirates is one exception...until the sequels! And even then, the movie was extremely different from the ride. The ride had to have additions and changes made to it to be more like the film, another example of the theme parks copying the movies.
Oh, and yes, the gift set is supposed to look like the book. It has the same main color, the same-looking jewels, swirly designs. It really looks like the whole book design:
Ariel'sprince actually the Maleficent part of the picture looks just like from the laserdisc, not the French covers, but Aurora and Phillip could be from the French covers, or all new art.

I was able to pre-order the Blu-Ray at the Disney Store yesterday and was given the lithographs - just a heads up if anyone else was waiting for these to be out.

I was browsing Play.com, and they have Disney movies for as low as £2.99!!!!! That's amazing! Too bad there's no Play.com for Region 1 DVDs!
Playusa.com
And chances are after you never got Jungle Book or 101 that you wont get this one either.

I just saw that if you order Sleeping Beauty on Blu-ray at Amazon that you get the bonus dvd.
http://www.amazon.com/Sleeping-Beauty-T ... B0013ND30W
So DisneyShopping.com is not the only place that has the bonus dvd.

Also as for the Disney films and the Disney theme parks. Well some people enjoy the Disney theme Parks more and other people enjoy the Disney movies more. As for me I don't know if I enjoy the Diseny theme parks more or the Disney movies more. I say that everyone can enjoy the magic of Disney any way they wish

Maybe Maleficent but Aurora and Phillip looks the same from the french covers (Only with Aurora with blue dress insted of pink dress).
The Blu-Ray cover is the same as the DVD cover (Check the official Disney on Blu-Ray website).

The UK gift set looks amazing!
It really represtents the style and class of the movie.
I think I'm going to order that one.
The new Dutch dubbing is pathetic anyway, so unless they use the first Dutch dub, I'll buy this Uk version with only the English version.
Ps. I wonder what this 2 disc dvd and "book set" means.
And it also says "book" in the special features. Is there some sort of book with pictures or backgroundinfo?

Thanks for the link! Their prices aren't so good, though, IMO. And I don't know what you mean about TJB or 101D...?

The UK "collector's edition" will probably be similar to the recent
101 Dalmatians and
Jungle Book deluxe sets released over here, as well as the
Snow White set from a few years ago. Essentially, the DVD is included in a book-shaped set, along with a book containing artwork and film-stills. I expect the
Sleeping Beauty set to very much mirror the two most recent "deluxe" editions, whose books are all pictures and no text. Here is a thread containing pictures and information on the sets for
101 Dalmatians. I'm sure that pictures for
The Jungle Book were also posted somewhere, but I can't find them at present.

Does anyone know what will be on the Amazon bonus disc? The only things that I truly really want on it is the Pytor featurette and "Grand Canyon" picture. If anyone knows, can you post? I would really like to get it from Amazon because of the price (6 bucks cheaper than Disney store) and if I get something else with it I get free shipping.
Thanks.

Aurora's lips are not drawn or shaped accurately and have been placed at the incorrect angle on that packaging art, creating a puckered liver-lips appearance. Sadly off-model.
