I like Eddie Murphy and I was wondering if the Haunted Mansion DVD was worth the blind buy? I feel like buying some DVDs today. My mom will be mad at me when I get home but I DON'T CARE! The people at Circuit City know me by name. They'll even hold the new stuff for me without me having to pre-order it. They're not really supposed to do that, so don't tell anybody.

I did blind buy it but have yet to watch it.

The movie was not supposed to be that good, but I like Eddie Murphy and the ride is among my favorites.

Short answer: No, I don't think it would be a good blind buy. I suggest giving it a watch to make sure you like it before you own it.

Hmmm, so I should RENT it before I decide if I want to own it or not. I still have a rent one get one free coupon for Blockbuster....... not sure if it's still good though.

I'll probably have to see it first too, before deciding to buy it and by then I'll probably be able to find a cheap used copy on eBay!

BTW Mushu2083 do yourself a favor & rent or borrow it from someone before you buy it. It is some of Murphys poorest work surrounded by good CG. It wasn't a big box office disappointment for no reason.

I have a coupon of coupons for Blockbuster that will expire soon so I better get on the ball and USE them. There's a couple of movies I'd like to rent and my mom wants me to get Under the Tuscan Sun for her.

Do not buy this movie. If you buy this movie you might as well buy The Adventures of Pluto Nash as well. Bloody Awful

I now own Haunted Mansion on DVD. My uncle bought it for me. He stopped by to give something to my mom and he gave me the DVD. He's finally getting the hang that I only buy widescreen DVDs!

I got Haunted Mansion Widescreen Edition at Costco.
I saw some of it and enjoyed it.
My family saw it and like it very much.
In my opinon you should check out this movie.

I saw it in theaters and will probably pick up the DVD soon. I went into the theater expecting a family movie with a couple of cute little laughs and that's exactly what I got... plus a semi-serious storyline. I thought it was a good made-for-TV film, but not a good theatrical release. So it's good, but definitely not great.

So I was just thinking, I have like pretty much ALL of the Disney movies on VHS (Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast pretty much ALL of the animated ones) and now with a lot of them coming out on dvd (either special editions or better or just plain) i was wondering if I should re-buy them as dvds? Is anyone else doing this? I have the Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast dvds but not the rest SE's or platinum or whatever...what's everyone else doing?

Years ago I replaced practically all of my Disney video cassettes with laserdiscs. Now I'm not buying all of them on DVD - just a few. But if I were in your situation, I'd probably replace them. But there's no need to replace them all this summer, is there?

I have Fantasia medium length Deems Taylor version in CAV Laserdisc, short Deems Taylor version in R2 PAL dvd, roadshow long non Deems Taylor version in the R1 Anthology dvd. I have Beauty and the Beast (both versions) in CAV Laserdisc and widescreen enhanced R2 PAL dvd (they have different color "rendition"), I have 3 Caballeros/Saludos Amigos in CAV Laserdisc box set as well as trilingual R2 PAL dvd's so uuh, ..yeah

Since i have Little Mermaid in fullscreen only CAV laserdisc, well I'm gonna re-buy it when it comes in widescreen enhanced Platinum. I'd probably re-buy the fullscreen ones I have if they come out 16:9 enhanced . etc, etc.

Or if you're satisfied with your vhs's, and you're the patient type, you might want to wait out till the High definition versions in a few (well a lot) years

TOTALLY upgrade all of them DVD. Why? A lot of reasons:

1. You get better picture quality. With VHS tapes, the picture quality is rather fuzzy and gets worse with more replays. DVD is always crystal clear and sharp and doesn't get worn out.

2. (Most) DVD's come in their original aspect ratio, the way the filmmakers wanted you to see it in the first place. With VHS, you get a pan and scan job and lose portions of the picture.

3. Bonus material. Many of Disney's DVD's come chock full of bonus features on the making of the movie as I'm sure you already know since you own Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.

4. VHS is becoming more and more obsolete. If you decide to only keep your VHS tapes, eventually you won't be able to view them anymore. Either your VCR will break and you won't be able to replace it, or new HD tv's won't be able to support them. So far these aren't issues now, but they will be in just a few years.

I suggest that if you want to upgrade to DVD, start with all if Disney's 2-Disc sets (partially because they're great and partially because many of their single discs will be re-released randomly). These are the multi-disc sets that are out there:

Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition
Tarzan: Collector's Edition
The Emperor's New Groove: Collector's Edition
Atlantis: The Lost Empire: Collector's Edition

The Fantasia Anthology (Both Fantasia movies and a 3rd disc of bonus features)

The Ultimate Toy Box (Both Toy Stories and a 3rd disc of bonus features)
A Bug's Life: Collector's Edition
Monsters, Inc.: Collector's Edition
Finding Nemo: Collector's Edition

Old Yeller
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Pollyanna
Swiss Family Robinson
The Parent Trap
The Love Bug
Tron
Pirates of the Caribbean

Some of these are very hard to find because they're out of print, but all are totally worth your money. You won't regret buying them (I'd start with the animated classics first because those go out of print the soonest).

I collect DVD'S but I still kept my old VHS collection.

I've upgraded, especially in the cases where there is a really exciting new Special Edition.

You will find that VHS tapes that have not been played for a while start to demagnetize as well, a problem DVDs do not have (unless they are early DVDs, they you just have to worry about DVD rot ).

Personally, I come from the position that I am a collector, so I will continue to rebuy the various editions of the films as they come out. That includes multiple copies of the same DVD.

However, money is always a factor in these things. If you don't want the extra features, or a newer edition, stick with what you have. However, f you intend to keep watching these for years to come, I suggest you upgrade the ones that mean the most to you.

Well I have a lot of DVD"s and don't buy VHS's anymore but I have a lot of doubles where i have it on VHS/DVD but I won't sell my VHS's they all bring back memories. And what is up with this demagnification garbage? I have movies that are 20 years old and + and they still play like new!
