Am I the only one creeped out by the % counting of someone's race? Sounds like WWII and how the Nazis decided if someone was 1/8th Jewish or one quarter Jewish.

It's funny how those 'anti racist' people end up being racist themselves.

I don't think Pokenonbinary represents all "antiracist" people, they just represent themselves. TBH, I think D23 was right that they're some conservative putting on an act.

So an actress who is less than a quarter Polynesian should play a Polynesian princess from 1000 years ago in an isolated island where people do endogamy?

Should Zendaya play a Kenyan princess from the middle ages?

I'm a multi-racial multi-ethnic person, accepting that mixed people are mixed is not racist, the racism comes from the one drop rule of thinking that bring 1% something makes you fully that thing

Auli'i left the role for a racially Polynesian actress and they casted one, she's the producer and she made a good decision

She's mixed and also white passing, something Moana is not, colorism, featurism and mixerism are huge in Hollywood (and basically every country) she herself understands her position of power

Thanks for the info! I hope we get some set photos featuring the cast before filming wraps.

This movie needs to be very adult centric to differentiate it from the animated one

It has to be more like pirates of the caribbean and less like the recent Disney live actions

New set photo and video. Apparently, they're filming "How Far I'll Go" now.

^ They'll need a lot of CGI to hide those buildings.

Here are more set photos. Apparently, they've been filming the flashback of Moana's father and his friend trying to leave the island and Gramma Tala dancing:

It all feels so incredibly pointless and a complete slap in the face of the animators who made this movie 8 YEARS ago! I mean, come on…

I can't understand why they are still making this. The Lilo and Stitch one was absurd too but at least the original movie has 20 years and they can add things that were not included in the original one to justify the LA.
With Moana it doesn't have sense. As you said the movie is not so old. It only has 8 years andt hey are releasing a sequel this year. They had the chance to include in the second part things that they couldn't include in the first movie and expand Moana's universe.
Dwane looks awful with the wig. He looks like a fake doll that you can find in Temu. Let's wait for official photos but I'm not attracted for this whole thing.

I guess the reason they rushed with that is that Moana was allegedly so offensive for being not accurate enough as its mostly a Mix of polynesian culture

...but then those leaks show they are probably doing a shot by shot remake as costumes and sets are quite identical...also if the animated one wasnt culture approving enough why continuing with a sequel?
what a joke

When are they going to learn that not everybody is going to be happy with the movies? If we want to see something accurate about history or about some country or culture then we can watch a documentary.
Disney always took what they wanted from different cultures. In their classic fairy tales they took things from all the european countries and we are not offended by that.
Maybe they would get better results if they think more about the history and the characters and not only about the representation.
