I have no idea what's going on with this film. :? Probably best to see it before making any comment about actors, because I don't think it's going to be much of anything like the animated film outside an elephant that flies.

Official synopsis
Directed by visionary filmmaker Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), the film stars Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell (In Bruges, The Lobster), Golden Globe winner Michael Keaton (Birdman, Beetlejuice), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Danny DeVito (Batman Returns, Big Fish), BAFTA Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Eva Green (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Dark Shadows), and introduces Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins in their first film roles. The cast also includes Roshan Seth, DeObia Oparei, Sharon Rooney and Douglas Reith.

Disney’s new live-action feature film Dumbo introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.

Katterli Frauenfelder (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Big Eyes), Derek Frey (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Frankenweenie), Ehren Kruger (Ophelia, Dream House) and Justin Springer (TRON: Legacy) are producing from a screenplay by Kruger. Nigel Gostelow (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Dark Shadows) is the executive producer.

First look at the "live action" version of Dumbo in the form of a maquette:

I am not at all in favor of any of these remakes, but I think that this Dumbo is adorable...

Yeah, I think Dumbo looks nice. Very true to the animated design.

pretty much what I figure he'd look like... the original design(more or less) with a CGI hyper-realistic skin texture...I dont know what to think.

Im surprised there aren't gonna be any circus side-show freak type characters in this film considering its Burton. I think a group of them would have been a nice replacement for the crows. Maybe they feel having circus freaks would detract from Dumbo's supposed uniqueness.

I don't think this Dumbo looks like the original one very much at all. The original one is much cuter and the head and ear ratio is different and the eyes are different.

Michael Keaton talks about the remake in an interview:
You’re shooting Dumbo now with old friend Tim Burton. How close is it to the Disney cartoon?

It’s basically telling the same story with Tim’s touch on it, and not necessarily a touch like we’ve seen him do before — which, so far, is so physically beautiful, you can’t believe it.

 I know, it's not a surprise at all.

Some of the films he has done with Tim Burton, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Corpse Bride, have songs written by him. I wonder if that will be the case with this film, or if they will use any of the songs from the animated classic.

Elfman surprisingly didn't compose Miss Peregrime's Home for Peculiar Children. Otherwise, this was obviously expected. Looking forward to hearing what he comes up with.

I hope they'll use Baby Mine. It's a beautiful song that really drives home the emotional scene in the film.
