So I picked up my copy of the blu ray today (kinda want to write the review if anyone can tell me who I'd need to talk to about that). Turns out Disney had so little faith the film would do well in Australia it was pulled from cinemas (where it was originally meant to play this school holidays (September)) and instead it has come out exclusively at BIG W stores (like our wallmart) and so I went and picked it up happy I could own it but sad Disney had no faith its its product.

The blu ray is identical to the one coming out in the US on October 25th (I double checked before I bought it) and I'm about to start looking through it. Dont know when Disney will release it to all other Australian stores but more then likely it wont be till just before Christmas.

Again I would love to review the set (since it matches the American copy) if anyone can tee me up with who I'd need to ask to do that.

First thing Ill say is the Making of featurette is a joke. Absolutely a falsely advertised feature. Just as it gets into the making of the film it cuts off with no discussion of the process of animating, the characters voices, the story choices or the music. Very sad.

Going off topic a bit... I don't think we'll get Cindy 2 or 3 though. They'll probably be an early 2013 release, and as much as I'd love for The Rescuers and Down Under to be released I'd wager an Aladdin release first. There is a TON of talk about a 20th Anniversary Edition for Aladdin.

Maybe Aladdin will be last year's Alice, sorta.

I'm pretty sure Cindy 2 and 3 will come out 2012, just like there is a Lion King Trilogy this year. If they continue the trend, they might get separate released 2013, but I'm sure they'll be released as part of a Trilogy set.

- The Rescuers / Rescuers Down Under

- Aladdin Trilogy (the first movie on 1 disc and the sequels on 1 disc)

Khonnor, do you think there's any chance Disney is going to squeeze more Studio Ghibli Blu-rays into their release schedule next year?

North America is really overdue for the next couple of titles. Personally, I'm hoping we see them in February, to coincide with the theatrical release of The Secret World of Arietty.

Couldn't agree more. Quite a small collection of features, but at least it has 'Nessie' on it. Here are my thoughts on the Australian Blu-ray release here:

@Loomis & Disney Live On: Were there any sneak peeks about upcoming Blu-ay releases on the Blu-ray disc or in the booklet inside the case?

Nothing on the inside cover about upcoming releases but will check the disc soon. Loved that review, very spot on.

The problem I had with Nessie was by the end of it I wanted it as a full animated Disney film not just a short. It was so beautiful that I feel it should have been fleshed out into something more.

I also have to say I don't understand the deleted section of "A Pooh Bear Takes Care of His Tummy" and the extended Eyore sequence. Both are excellent and fully animated (one in full colour). Considering the actual length of the movie (without credits) is 55 minutes, there was no reason to cut these scenes for "pacing issues" which the two directors use as an excuse for everything.

Australian releases usually don't come with advertisements for upcoming releases. That was the case here.

that might explain why theres been no whisper of a cinema release in new zealand yet. google said a few months back it was due these holidays, but not a sniff anywhere, not even a preview at TLK3D.

I was at a presentation with the directors at the Ottawa International Animation Festival and they screened two of the cut scenes. They explained that they took out the Eeyore shot for two reasons: One, at test screenings it seemed as if the audience took too long to "get into" the film, so they wanted to speed up the character intros. And two, they didn't want Pooh to take the vow to find Eeyore's tail no matter what, because it makes Pooh's decision at the end of the film seem less important, as if he had already made his mind up.

They didn't screen the Tummy Song deleted scene though, so I can't help you there haha

I get that they should have cut Pooh vowing to find the tail but the rest of the scene was gold and some great lines were lost in the process of cutting down that scene.

mum just handed me a page from one of her magazines about WTP. seems the movie was only shown at one cinema and only in one city, with just a single screening.
the dvd/blu has been advertised on tv, but not during kids tv [i watch a fair bit, so would have seen it] and it was released 10 days ago. plus its school holidays right now, so they should be advertising every couple of ad breaks. hell, ive seen one for spooky buddies, and the snow buddies one will start soon.

WAY TO GO, DISNEY! youve really murdered this film without giving a chance at life.

needless to say, i will be picking this movie up, hopefully today if i can find it instore, but am undecided on the blu or dvd version. will look at both and compare the features vs the price.

Why do they even bother with the DVD cases with the combos? They take up more room.

For people who don't yet own a lot of Blu-rays, and don't want the smaller cover to stand out compared to the DVD collection.
