Oh yeah, he wanted to make his own BatB! Him doing the remake might have been great! I wish he would do Haunted Mansion though. I did like Crimson Peak, too, even though I was disappointed it wasn't so much about a haunted house as it was about a murderous family.

he would make a great take on any of the planned live action versions of Disney films. There arent many films in the Disney canon left that arent already in production with directors attached... but imagine a live action Peter Pan or Black cauldron, Hunchback or Hercules with his aesthetic!

He's one of the few people I would trust for Disney's take on a Peter Pan live-action film. I would love to see him do Hunchback since monster films are what he's known for.

Guillermo del Toro mentioned the Haunted Mansion in a list of unproduced screenplays he wrote. I guess this means the movie has been shelved yet again.
Guillermo del Toro wrote:Screenplays I have developed, fully written or co-written that have gone unproduced (so far): The Witches, Justice League Dark, Beauty and the Beast, At the Mountains of Madness, Fantastic Voyage, The Count of Montecristo, Mephisto's Bridge, Pacific Rim 2 (very different), Secret Project (Untitled), Superstitious, Nightmare Alley, Haunted Mansion, The Hulk pilot, The Buried Giant, The Coffin, Drood, List of 7 (Mark Frost) and a few others...Oh, and Wind in the Willows (which I loved). The thing is each script takes about a year, so more than a decade of work lost (in the case of Mountains, much more, since we scouted and designed etc.) To be clear these screenplays are written, done. Each of them took months or years of my life. Meetings, synopsis, beat sheets and were all written, features, 90-130 pages each. These are not "maybes" or "wish list" items. They are done.

The Haunted Mansion deserves another look from the studio division. There is a great movie hiding in that house!

I saw the Eddie Murphy one recently, it wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for Murphy. He shouldn't had been the lead, he was sooo miscast! :headshake:

Ohhhhh no. Del Toro was writing it to make it scary. Now they have a comedic writer again. The first one was trying to be funny and a lot of people thought it failed. I wanted Del Toro's. Oh well, who knows, maybe this one will be scary and funny anyway.

So this is going to be a comedy again? What's the point of doing that?

I don’t feel reassured either. Why ignoring what the fans of the ride have been requesting for years now? Obviously they only represent a little part of the box office revenue, and Disney (like another studio would do) wants to primarily gamble on a vaster audience that doesn’t even feel a great attachment to the source material. In one way we may have seen this coming, but still.. This bad for the Haunted Mansion lovers..

They can't even claim they're doing it for the sake of diversity this time. The original was also a comedy centered around a Black family which makes this new adaptation kinda redundant and pointless.

There’s not really a connection between the choice of the tone and the movie being comparably more/less or as diverse as the first one anyway.

But I suspect they got their inspiration from the Ghostbusters franchise.. Something that could be a crossover between Ghostbusters and a reminder of what they’ve done with the first Haunted Mansion movie (but like showing they weren’t on the wrong track back then, they just needed to try more). And if so, that would be so disappointing.. So many other things you could do with the Haunted Mansion. I guess the fans themselves would have better suggestions for a story and a style at this point. It also seems the darkest we’ll get from Disney will be in their animated movies, the first PotC film, and The Watcher in the Woods (which are excellent examples in that matter!)

If the first movie wasn't diverse, I could understand why they would want to do a comedy again. They could claim they were bringng a new element to the franchise. But I don't see the point of another adaptation with the same ingredients as the first one. It's too similar and unnecessary.

Ugh this spunds horrible...hopefully this will flop big Time...

There are so many great stories about the haunted mansion to be told, or even The phantom manor, which you could easily conect to big thunder mountain, to venture more into Western areas... sigh

Walt Disney Pictures’ Haunted Mansion, is based on Disney’s classic theme parks attraction and starring a star-studded ensemble cast that includes LaKeith Stanfield (Knives Out), Tiffany Haddish (Bad Trip), Owen Wilson (Loki), Danny DeVito (Jumanji: The Next Level), Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap), and Chase Dillon (The Underground Railroad). The film was directed by Justin Simien (Bad Hair, Dear White People) and produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin). Nick Reynolds (Easter Sunday) and Tom Peitzman (The Lion King) are the executive producers.

In this mysterious adventure, a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish) and a crotchety historian (DeVito).

We want a scary one, but we’re never getting that because it would be rated R.

So another lame comedy it is :|
