Wait... I thought the lead role in 'The Little Mermaid' was promised to Saoirse Ronan. He said so when 'Hanna' was being released. I wonder if she could do that and 'Cinderella'...

It was during promotion of Anna Karenina ... I can see Keira in Mermaid though for sure. Would look breathtaking.

Maybe Keira as the princess and Saoirse as the mermaid. Anyway, it's going to take a few years before we see it! But he promised he would do it since it was his favourite puppet show when he was a child (his father was a puppeteer, I believe).
I found the interviews! Click

So wait...why are any of you suggesting Joe Wright's actresses as being Cinderella?
Lnds500 wrote:Well, he is the director of Thor so I don't think his take will necessarily be very sophisticated, artsy or whatever you want to call it.
Well if he did Hamlet, other Shakespearian tales, and then Thor, then maybe he can do both/mix commercial and artsy.

Because Saiorse Ronan is/was attached to both 'Cinderella' and 'The Little Mermaid'...
I don't know what you all think but both 'Hamlet' and 'Thor' focused a lot on family ties. Perhaps Keneth will focus more on the relation between Cinderella and her stepmother.

Emma Watson (aka Hermione Granger) in talks to play Cinderella.
I think she'll do a good job. I've always found her to be the more talented of the Harry Potter child actors.

With Emma Watson and Cate Blanchett, this could be a really good movie. I love Emma, and I'm sure she would do well in this role.

Wow! She was really good in the last two Harry Potter movies!
But wasn't she supposed to be Guillermo del Toro's Beauty in his Beauty and the Beast?

Guillermo del Toro doesn't make movies anymore. He's only giving interviews about movies he plans to make but never does.
No seriously, there's a list of at least 15 films he says he's attached to as either director or producer that are in limbo. There's a reason the whole Disney collaboration fell through. He has ADD or something.

I really love her and I think she'd be great in it! And that's also what I think about Guillermo!

Disney has found someone to wear the glass slipper.
Lily James (Downton Abbey) will star as Cinderella in Disney’s upcoming live-action interpretation of the classic tale.

Of all the actresses, she and Alicia were the ones I wanted for the role, so I'm very happy!

I haven't seen Lily James in anything, yet, but she's certainly pretty. Hopefully Disney lets her keep her natural brown hair for the role as it suits her more. I adore Emma Watson, but I wasn't sure how she'd approach the role since Cinderella's a tricky character to pull off. If you play her too boldly, the audience will wonder why someone go headstrong takes so much crap from everyone. If you play her too meekly, the audience will be frustrated that she's such a pushover. You have to maintain a certain balance between the two, and Emma's such an independent spirit that she might've gone too far in the headstrong side. That's why I was actually rooting for Saoirse Ronan as she's capable of having this ethereal quality that would make you understand why Cinderella tolerates as much as she does, but there's a wisdom about her that would indicate she's got a good head on her shoulders. I'll be watching Lily with great interest between now and the film's release.
As for the rest of the roles, in my head, I'd like to see Joan Plowright play the fairy godmother, but she's probably in no state now to continue acting. If they go for a younger, wittier Godmother ala Annette Crosby in The Slipper and the Rose, I feel Emma Thompson would be perfect. Ray Winstone as the King, and Steve Coogan as the Grand Duke seem like good fits to me, as well. The Stepsisters should be played by unknowns. Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) is rumored to be playing the Prince, a choice I'd certainly prefer over the potential teen idols with screaming fangirls.

I'm dissapointed Emma Watson turned down the role, making me feel we're getting a second choice.
But yay,
Disneykid's back!

I personally would have preferred Emma .... we shall see I guess!
I wonder if Cinderella won't be the main character, much like Alice wasn't the main character in Wonderland ?

I think it would be cool if they told the story from the Stepmother's perspective but it would be too similar to Wicked/Maleficent.

Personally i don't see the hype surrounding Emma Watson, her american accent in 'The Bling Ring' sounds so awful.
Lily James, looks alright i guess, not sure why she's being deemed the downton abbey starlett, she was only in two episodes lmfao!
Here's Lily with blonde hair.
