I read a lot about this issue, and there is no need at all to worry.

Warner Bros. themselves said they were not trying at all to stop Disney's film from being made. However, they were concerned about the merchandise Disney would make off the movie.

Some store was selling merchandise using images from vintage posters of movies like The Wizard of Oz. Warner tried to sue them but actually since the posters had no copywright on them and were not told to be destroyed, they were aloud to use them because they were kind of in the public.

As of now, all that happened was Warner Brothers, and I suppose anyone from now on, got protection for anything they did to their characters and places and objects that was not done in the book.

What exactly this means is yet to be known. Does this mean no one can make a green Wicked Witch of the West or ruby slippers when they do the Wizard of Oz? I think that's rather stupid and restricting. I see what they mean, but I think we should have more freedom than that. And then what about Disney's Return to Oz, which used ruby slippers?

Anything from the illustrations or any other advertising that had to do with the original books is in public domain though.

For the $200 million movie "Oz The Great and Powerful," Disney's take on "The Wizard of Oz," director Sam Raimi saved money by mapping out the bulk of the picture in animatics—roughly animated versions of scenes—prior to the start of principal photography.

When a scene in "Oz" called for a piece of scenery resembling an over-sized piece of china, Mr. Raimi also asked to reuse a giant teacup that had been created for Disney's 2010 "Alice in Wonderland." Reuse of the teacup was partly a nod to the Disney legacy but it also saved money, according to people familiar with the matter. The movie, starring James Franco, is slated for release in March 2013.

^ I think that that's super-smart, though. If they need props that they already have in storage, why not save money?

That's probably for the land of living China dolls. Interesting their choosing to use that part from the original book, if they are.

I'm surprised they haven't gone for a more "spectacular" image of the Land of OZ. But still the cover is very classic.

I'm surprised we haven't gotten a trailer yet for this. I assumed a teaser would premiere with Brave, but I guess not.

A while back, somebody even posted on the IMDb boards about seeing a rough version of the teaser for a survey.

Well it starts off with a spinning-ish screen and it says the companies that produced it. then franco does a voiceover, but i don't remember what he said. then a hot air balloon crashed into what looked like an ocean. then the next shot was that same balloon over Oz, and you can see the green castle from the original. then it shows a bunch of quick shots of the characters, including mila kunis, and it looks like someone pushed her to the ground, then james franco picks up a broken white mask, and the last little thing is of the shadow of the witch cackling, then it said the title and March 2013. sorry if it's not descriptive enough, that's all i remember.

Yeah, I think this forum could use something others have, where it tells you if somebody posted a reply while you were writing your own post.

Reading the synopsis, I really like the story. I can see it also being an interesting political commentary, if Sam Raimi and the writers decide to go that route.

Yer I'm really excited for this movie now as it sounds very promising! I can't wait to see what the witches are like, but I hope most of all that Theodora's skin is green!

Also I expect a trailer will be available in the coming weeks! (Possibly released during Comic Con?)

I'm astonished at the city of OZ. it look's great, nearly identical to the original Oz film! I wish Mila Kunis was painted green...

Judging by that final shot, Mila Kunis will indeed turn green at some point during the film.

Wow, this looks like it'll be a really great film (just based on the trailer alone). I like pretty much all the actors; too bad I'll be in Germany when this is released, so I'll have to wait to see if it'll still be playing in May when I return.
