I'm planning on buying it the day it comes out. I have a $20 Borders gift card. I think that they're rediculously priced, and it'll take almost half and hour to drive there, but it'll save me money. I'd like to buy Hannah Montana: The Movie the same day, and you can save $6 if you buy both, but I don't think I'll have the money. As of now, I'm not planning on rebuying B&B.

To Disneyfella, remember how the Witch Mountain films had their transfers improved? I doubt Disney will port over the exact the transfer without doing some tweaking work. I too am annoyed at the matting issue, but it wouldn't surprise me if this DVD looked better than the old one.

borders is always MSPR, you can order online too. they have sales and coupons from time to time.
your best bet is to wait one day after the release and see what coupon surface from disney.

The UD review is now up!
Pete's Dragon: High-Flying Edition DVD Review
I was upset when I read that Sean Marshall only narrates "Brazzle Dazzle Effects" and we don't actually see him. Still, it sounds like an excellent featurette, as do all the other features and I can't wait to pick up this DVD when it streets! I'll be holding on to my 2001 DVD as well (for "Man, Monsters, & Mysteries").

Another excellent UD review! I, too, am glad for the film-specific new content, and overall agree that this seems like an "upgrade" - moreso than is usually the case for the single-disc, GC re-releases. I also agree that it's a shame "Man, Monsters, and Mysteries" wasn't carried over.

I somehow missed the announcement of the review on the homepage, so thanks for announcing it here, Albert!
I'm very grateful for the trailers included on the DVD, but why no original theatrical (or TV) trailers?!?
I did sell my Gold Collection DVD a few months back, and I didn't have fond memories of the Mans, Monsters, & Mysteries featurette...but I also don't remember the Where's Elliott? game, so I just must not have spent much time with the bonus features on that disc. I very much am looking forward to the behind-the-scenes featurette, since that is my favorite kind of bonus feature!
Great review, Luke!

Although I'm glad for the new 49.5 minutes of bonus content, I'm disappointed that nothing was done with the old transfer and the other 25 minute featurette was not carried over.
I'll wait for the Blu-ray release.

That will likely be another ten years. I'm buying both of these. My Netflix que is too full.

Disney released the new Pete's Dragon release this week in The Netherlands. According to the press release and cover the running time is 124 minutes (PAL). The disc however includes the 101 minutes (PAL) shorter version.

I actually prefer this over the Gold Collection cover. Yeah, it's a really obvious photoshop/composite job, but it's nice seeing Helen Reddy and Mickey Rooney on the cover with Sean and Elliot.

I am actually thinking of making a Special Edition Soundtrack to go along with the new release of the film. It will included all the songs on the new DVD plus some movie versions of some songs in the film. What do you guys think. Anyone interested?

Got my DVD in the mail recently, but haven't had the time or desire to really go through it, but I'll be doing that this week. Looking forward to it - Pete's Dragon really is one of my favorites.
Does anyone have any information on the promotional record that's included in the bonus features? All Google searches on it just point to reviews or store listings for the new DVD.

From the press release, it states:
- • Promotional Record (Audio Only) – Pop versions of “It’s Not Easy,” “Brazzle Dazzle
Day,” “There’s Room For Everyone” and Academy Award nominee for Best Song,
“Candle On The Water,” originally released together on a 7” record to promote the
film’s music.

Yeah, that's about all I can find. I was wondering more like if anyone has info on the vocalists and such. But it was a nice inclusion on the DVD, even if it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. (Pop versions done by the cast.) Although "Brazzle Dazzle Day" was a bit slow for my liking.
