Here's what find funny. Fans of ANYTHING (videogames, movies, books, anime etc.) tend to interpret the product better than their own creators.

Here's why: Most of the time the people behind the product are only there to get paid and move on with the next project. In other words, they don't like what they do. The fans, however, appreciate the product MUCH better and even build their lives around it.

So if you were to take the artist behind an aspect of the product (if we are talking about a DVD, the DVD cover) and a fan who has a lot of talent chances are the fan will do a better job because he or she loves the product and expresses their love in the most creative way possible.

That's why we tend to have better covers done by the fans here at UD than the official ones done by the Disney artists.

That was a great cover, DV. I just love how it replicates the iconic scene from the original's poster (the one with Ariel sitting in front of the moon), but adds Melody to it.

It makes the movie far more emotional...even though its in reality a piece of crap :p .

Thank you for the compliment. It's true about the fans. We have a devotion and an appreciation for the products; our covers come from our passion. I completely agree. Btw that last sentence has me cracking up!! You're right; I did try to make the film feel special. I found a few old TLM2 posters, took the moon with rock concept and meshed it together creatively, lol.

Yeah, I've always loved that picture of Morgana. :) But I actually disagree with everyone on the logo--it doesn't mesh well with the likely-to-be-sea-blue-background. Also, both Ariel's Beginning and the Platinum have tried to keep that original wavy look to the title and this one's completely different. It probably matches the logo in that sequel, but I still think it should've went along with the other two (it is a "trilogy" now, ha).

OH, I see, I see. Thanks for clearing that up! :D

Also, I have a rough draft of my cover done, I'm just trying to finish up my homework so that I can do it in steve's amazing style! :P

With that said, I think Flounder should not be included on the cover. He went off model a lot of times, if you total up his screen time, it's only around ten minutes, and aside from that- he's pretty gross in this one.

I really want to include Eric, too but it just ends up looking way too crowded. I'm not sure what to do. :(

When do you guys think the official cover art will be released?

I actually really like it ! It's a compleatly different composition for a cover that we have seen recently from Disney. No more giant head above the title ! I like the movement that is shown from the characters, and Ariel looks like she did from the teaser poster to this movie; slightley older, but still the Ariel we love :)

I just hope they do a bit of re-working for Melody's face ... it doesnt look quite spot on yet. And she is on the spine of the DVD as well !

I agree with you about the cover,it's one of the worst cheapquels but it's tempting (Espically the cover).

It's totally different to what I had been anticipating. I quite like the upper half as it's unusual for disney, their compositions aren't normally like this but I don't like the bottom half at all. Triton looks too clip arty for my liking and both him and Morgana look as if they've just been thrown on just so that they make the cover. Not bad by all means though. Thanks 4 sharing with us :)

Yeah. The bottom part ruined it.

I have noticed that it's different from the one included in the box set. The one inside the box is purple in color.
