There's some out there. Again it doesn't address the joke as a mean spirited intention.
Goliath wrote:Actual racists (unlike you; I don't think you are racist) used to compare black people with monkeys, .
That is true and that's why it's a joke. It's a silly and ridiculous stereotype. Just like "all jews have huge crooked noses and steal your money." etc

oh and monkey was limited to Blacks. The asians also got that slur too.
Goliath wrote:or are still doing so. It's a very old, very ugly slur..
It is bad. and again it's one thing if you address in manner like the example you made which is clearly, as you point out, intentionally mean spirited. The pic above wasn't. Besides they guy who made that image was black anyway.

Goliath wrote:It expresses the idea that black people are somehow 'lower' than white men on the evolutionary ladder.
.
It also due to the theory that ape evovle from man and that origin location of it happen in africa. That's where I thought the stereotype came from.
Goliath wrote:That's why you can't compare black people to apes (Donkey Kong Country is about apes) and say it's just a joke. It's offensive.
Again like pap64 said, it depends on people, I guess. I know many blacks that would lol at that. Why? cause it's a silly racist stereotype. The joke on picture was just that as I said to Duster. If you look at the photoshoped credits the productions was made by Uwe Boll. Type of person who would be racist and does make shitty movies.
Goliath wrote:I don't care how awesome you think you are for fighting the so-called 'pc police'.
LOL WAT?
Goliath wrote:I don't care you hate it when people call things racist when they're obviously are. You can't simply shove aside all reasonable criticism by referring to political correctness. .
Fair enough but same can be vice versa wouldn't you agree?
Goliath wrote:No matter how cool you think you are. It's not a cool attitude. It's childish. It's saying: "I can insult anybody I like and if you say something about it, you're pathetic."
What is this "be cool" thing have anything do with it? LOL
I just posted it cause I thought it was funny.
Funny thing is -and SuperAurora knows this- that I'm not easily offended."
Yeah though I was suprise that this did offend you.
Goliath wrote:Yes, humor *is* highly subjective, but the fact that comparing black people to monkeys is an old tactic of actual racists, is a *fact*. That comparing black people to apes is always meant to insult black people, is a *fact*. Protesters are not depicting Obama as a monkey because that's the one animal that randomely popped into their heads. It's a long tradition. .
That is true, i'm not denying that, but again, the people you gave example of are clearly showing their racism intent. You know that they are. I just saw that image as a silly joke rather than the intent of attacking blacks.
Goliath wrote:And that's why I object to SuperAurora's lame attempt at being funny
I wasn't attempting be funny. I just posted that cause I thought it was funny. But now you made me cry.

If other people object to the image as well, i'll concede and remove the image. Is that fair for all of you?

I don't want to pressure you into feeling you have to remove something. Again: I don't think your intention was to offend anybody. (Though your 'disclaimer', in the original post, already indicates you expected some backlash.)

Goliath wrote:I've never heard of comedians comparing black people to animals and most certainly not to apes.
I saw a mixed-race (black and white) comedian who said that one time a friend of his said "I hope this doesn't sound racist, but you know, black people really do look like monkeys!" and he said "That's the most racist, offensive thing I ever heard!" and then he said "But I looked down and saw I was eating a banana, so I said, oh, yea, you're right!" Or something like all that. I thought it was extremely offensive, but as you should know Goliath, many comics don't think anything's sacred or safe, and like to make jokes that are funny "because it's 'the truth'". No, it's not the truth, it's just your opinion and way of thinking. Life isn't one way. But anyway, as I understand, most comics are the way they are because they find life so horrid they have to make fun of it to feel good, and this guy's mixed-race in our society may have had something to do with it.
Super Aurora wrote:Besides the guy who made that image was black anyway.
And there's the defense.

I'm beginning to think these picture/video threads are becoming more trouble than they are worth. I grow tired of having to issue warnings for inappropriate content/posts in these threads every few weeks. If the inappropriate behavior continues, this thread will be locked, and there will be no future picture/video threads.
Rules & Guidelines Thread wrote:Inappropriate Content
Posts containing explicit content, prurient images, or other material inappropriate for the forum will not be allowed. Links to other websites hosting similar material are also not allowed. Use your best judgment in posting.
For the record, racist material and posts are always considered inappropriate.

Consider this the final warning for this thread.

To try and get this thread back on topic from some amusing yet apolitical stuff...

An advert I can remember coming on some time ago in Britain, which I can remember caught my mum, dad and me by surprise, causing us to laugh quite a bit:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UejKxG_WlcI?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UejKxG_WlcI?fs ... 2=0x54abd6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Another amusing British advert, this time for Fosters. :p It's more amusing for the bizarre advice and dialogue rather than having a bunch of stereotypical bogans sitting around with their heads not screwed on properly:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/y4AvLnt3P6Q?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/y4AvLnt3P6Q?fs ... 2=0x4e9e00" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Two quick Glee videos: ;)

Not comedic by any means, but a whimsical, simple little stop-motion short based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Snow White and Rose Red" (the Snow White being a completely different character to the one who stayed with seven dwarfs):

Ha, I just watched that food court flash mob video in my Religion and Popular Culture class a week ago. I love it! I gotta say, it takes real guts to be the first one to start singing!

Not an issue with me- I just don't get what's religious about it. People make "Hallelujah" jokes all year 'round. Same with singing it, referencing it, etc. As for the video- we are allowed to comment on that in general, right? Well, the front caption says something about "surprise" and "unsuspecting" shoppers... But... nobody seems to look all that surprised. And clearly, it's too staged. It's goofy (bordering on obnoxious- especially the zoomed closeups). I don't get the humor of it. Plus, you have the applause at the end. Nobody performing that did it for humor's sake.

Do you get paid for posting fliiby.com links or something?
I know this is almost half a year ago, but I'm so glad I found it. I was actually finding it almost impossible to keep from criticizing this one member. Not for posting links, because The Key of Awesome is a well-known channel on YouTube, but for saying this about their Rihanna-Eminem parody:
citronix wrote:I can say this is probably best parody i have ever seen in my life.
A person would have to be 4 and have never seen a parody prior in their life to say something like that.

Missed this one.

I never really got around to watching Hannah Montana, but I think it's very clever anyway.

It would be considered a religious song by many, although it is a classical work. I just didn't want people coming in here and restarting the religion thread over it.

It wasn't a humorous video, just an interesting one. The thread is for funny pics and vids, as well as ANY youtube video, since the closure of the other YT thread. The singers performed very well, considering there was no choir director, the busy holiday shoppers, and the uncontrolled acoustics.

Have you seen any "flash mob" videos before? The point is that group 'A' is the flash mob (in this case probably a church choir), and they go do something that they planned in public at a certain time, amid an unsuspecting group 'B' audience. Yes, the positioning of the singers and the camerawork are planned, and I'm sure the singers practiced for this before they showed up. However, the audience didn't know about it (although I think the mall management had given permission.)

Other flash mob videos - 50 or so people dressed in khaki slacks and blue shirts invade a Best Buy, large groups of people "freezing" for 5 minutes in the middle of Grand Central Station, break-dancing 'pregnant' women, various song or dance sequences on busy streets, the annual "No-Pants" subway ride in NYC, etc.

regarding that citronix guy, I think he was banned as a spammer. I had googled some of the text that he posted, and found several other forums that had those exact posts from a new user like him. Either the fliiby links are click-farming things where he gets paid for each click, or there is a more nefarious purpose. I just read about a way for hackers to use a 'tinyurl' to generate DDOS attacks against websites, and the person that clicks on the link just sees the picture or video, never realizing that they are unknowingly participating in an attack. At the very least, he was just promoting the fliiby site, which is still spam.

You know- I finally remembered that when I was drifting off to sleep last night. "Didn't they merge the Funny Pics + Post a YouTube Video threads together?" I'm speedy when given a couple hours to think about something.
