Well, of course the whole truth doesn't show in still screencapture images, but based on those in the review I'd say the difference seems to be extremely small. Two different DVD players or TV sets may display the same image with more difference than what's between those screencaps, due to differences in their default settings.

I just picked up my copy today. I didn't own the 25th Anniversary Edition, so I was happy to add this film to my collection. Now I'm gonna go watch...

Well today is the grand day this one comes out, unfortunately I won't be able to pick it up until the 22nd.

Thanks for the great review Aaron! A new transfer is always cool...even if it is minimal. The bonus features sound pretty neat too, I've never seen them before since I haven't owned the 25th Anniversary version, so it will be nice watching...a worthy pick up for me.

I just finished watching the movie. I haven't seen this one since I was a kid, so it really brought back memories of my childhood. It's a cute movie, I forgot how much I love Tigger. However, I wish the DVD had a few more bonus features, but I am glad to finally have this movie in my Disney collection.

Aaron's is the only review I've read thus far that says the new edition's picture is a clear winner over the old one. All of the other reviews (DVDMg, DVDTalk, HomeTheaterForum) have said they're identical. Comparing the screencaps, the Friendship Edition does have slightly more vivid colors, though not as obviously as Aaron seems to think so. I think I'll just stick with my 25th Anniversary Edition since I've largely been satisfied with its transfer (only the Tigger, Too and We Say Goodbye sequences seem subpar; they're pretty grainy). Well considering I just got the 25th anniversary edition a few weeks ago, and that this isn't one of my favourtie of the DAC's and with picture quality being (from what I've seen) barley noticeable I don't think I'll be upgrading this one.

I want to buy this, but I don't know if I'll get a chance to buy it for a few days - cause I want the 2 DISC Edition of Bridge to Terabithia (can you buy that with that coupon deal?) as well.

I've never seen it, so it'd be a first time purchase for me.

There is no 2 Disc. Just a 1 Disc and the Blu-Ray version. I don't think there's even a Best Buy exclusive or something.

I don't read other reviews prior to writing mine. The improvement in picture quality was immediately noticeable to me when I first put in the movie. That prompted me to do a closer inspection, using multiple dvd players and sets, viewing each disc on each set and taking plentiful screencaps of each for comparison. All of this confirmed the improvement in picture quality. I would say that it's even more noticeable when watching than the screencaps would suggest.

That said, as I pointed out in the review, the difference in the transfers is not overly drastic. A casual observor won't notice it from a mile away (like they might with, say, <i>Cinderella</i>). However, after all the comparisons, I gave it some thought and asked myself, "If I were buying this instead of reviewing it, would I sell my 25th Anniversary Edition and upgrade to The Friendship Edition based on the picture quality?" The answer is an honest yes.

Of course, everyone who is making purchase decisions has to also consider how interested they are in a particular movie, where it ranks on their "to-buy list", and how much money they have to dispose of. Only you can decide if you "should" buy a new disc, based on the information we supply you in our reviews. The reviews just tell you whether the DVD is "worth it" if you have the interest and the available money. I have no doubt that many people will be fine with keeping their 25AE, but those who are interested in upgrading do have a valid reason for doing so.

Aaron, I liked your Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh review...your thoughts on the movie reflected a lot of mine, actually (especially the opinion that the whimsical nature gets slightly tedious half-way through the last segment).

Is it me, or does anyone think that Disney may have changed the transfer slightly by having simply brightened/tweaked the colours for this release? The framing of the film looks exactly identical, which is something I do to see if a transfer is different or not (if you look closely at various transfers of one film on different releases, you'll notice that the aspect ratio and framing of the image is slightly different most times). I'd have to see it to make a clear judgment, yet the screencap comparison has got me thinking...

In an additional note that should be worth noting due to the inclusion of an episode of My Friends Tigger and Pooh (or whatever its called), as a British person, I am (and I'm guessing many others are too) actually disappointed with Disney for its treatment of a classic of British literature and its characters. I'm obviously not claiming that Disney isn't allowed to use their interpretations of characters from literature in other ways, but stuff like this is downright disrespectful to Milne. It turns what were originally intended to be entertaining characters into horribly sugary and teachy Barney-esque characters, and making them do stuff that they shouldn't be doing in the world that Milne created and Disney originally adapted well (such as Tigger skateboarding). Next thing you know, we'll see Piglet as a gangster rapper...

Picked it yesterday along with Bridge to Therabithia!! Saw Therabithia, it was great!!!!

I got my copy today. I also got bonus points when I entered the code. There really is not much I want to spend my points on, though the Ratatouille poster is nice.

I'm sorry Aaron, I agree with everyone else. I did not see any difference AT ALL in the transfer. I took your word on it and upgraded thinking it was going to be better but I didn't even see a slight difference. I am not putting you or your review down in anyway, but I to would also like to know where did you see a difference in the movie and I would love screen caps as well.

On a positive note, I did get an extra 100 Movie Reward Points lol.
