No commentary or trailer. Commentary is understandable, they probably filmed an IME for the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray releases instead of making an audio one for the DVD. But still, for those of us who don't have the new formats yet, a commentary would be nice.

ETA:

FINALLY, the DigitalBits is the first (at least the first I found), to confirm the 14-disc R1 Ultimate Collection!
__________________________

As fans have been hoping, Warner has also officially announced the release of the 14-disc Superman: The Ultimate Collector's Edition DVD box set (SRP $99.92). Packaged in a special tin case, the set will include the 2-disc Superman Returns: Special Edition, the 4-disc Superman: The Movie - Special Edition, the 2-disc Superman II: Special Edition, the single-disc Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, the single-disc Superman III and Superman IV DVDs, the You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman documentary, the previously-released Look Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman and a disc featuring Bryan Singer's Video Journals from the set of Superman Returns. The case will also include a reproduction of the Superman #7 comic book, a booklet on the history of the character and a mail-in offer for all 5 Superman feature film movie posters.

__________________________

Plus, Superman Returns will have 5 releases: (6 if you count the boxset)

Single-Disc DVD Widescreen

Single-Disc DVD Fullscreen

Two-Disc DVD

HD-DVD/DVD combo

Blu-Ray Disc

I'm still upset about the omission of Supergirl from the Ultimate Collection, and even more upset that WB isn't porting over all the Anchor Bay extras for the film (including the Director's Cut).

Digital Bits has the artwork, which is pretty much the same as the one netty posted earlier:
Image

Image

Netty's is higher quality:
http://www.jamesreader.plus.com/ud/0309 ... design.jpg

I'm guessing now we can accurately figure out what each disc is:

Disc 1 - Superman: The Movie 1979 Theatrical Edition (movie, new commentary, trailers, tv spots)
Disc 2 - Superman: The Movie 2000 Expanded Edition (movie, 2000 commentary, isolated music track)
Disc 3 - Superman: The Movie Bonus Disc 1 (3 documentaries, restored scenes, screen tests, additional music cues)
Disc 4 - Superman: The Movie Bonus Disc 2 (tv special, 1951 movie, 9 Fleischer toons)

Disc 5 - Superman II Theatrical Edition (movie, new commentary, trailer)
Disc 6 - Superman II Bonus Disc (2 tv specials, Fleischer cartoon featurette, 8 Fleischer toons.)
Disc 7 - Superman II Donner Cut (movie, new commentary, introduction, featurette, additional scenes)

Disc 8 - Superman III (movie, new commentary, tv special, additional scenes, trailer)
Disc 9 - Superman IV (movie, new commentary, additional scenes, trailer)

Disc 10 - Superman Returns (movie)
Disc 11 - Superman Returns Bonus Disc (7 part documentary, Jor-El Featurette, 11 deleted scenes, easter egg) *no trailers, tv spots, or commentary, unfortunately

Disc 12 - You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman Documentary
Disc 13 - Look Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman Documentary
Disc 14 - Bryan Singer Video Journals (27 in all)

At least with this packaging, it's a kickass case, with what looks like a digistak book-binding, so no Photoshop cover art. And none of this hideousness!!!

Image

This one's still the better one...
Image

It'll look nice sitting on my shelf next to Supergirl: Limited Edition (I will not rest until I acquire the Anchor Bay release of this film!!!)

I'm hoping that Disc 12 also contains the documentaries mentioned for the R4 release:

The Mythology of Superman
The Science of Superman
Remembering Christopher Reeve

Also, is there any confirmation that Superman IV: The Quest for Peace will include the "The Missing Scenes" featurette, and not just the actual deleted footage? It's included in the R4 release, but apparently not in R1 or R2. Plus, R4 seem to have different specs for Superman Returns:

Requiem for Krypton - Making Superman Returns
Secret Origins and First Issues - Crystallizing Superman
The Crystal Method - Designing Superman
Shooting Superman - Superman on the Farm
Shooting Superman – Superman in the City
Shooting Superman – Superman in Trouble
The Joy of Lex - Menacing Superman
Wrapping Superman
Deleted Scenes (includes audio introduction from director Bryan Singer)
Teaser Trailer
Theatrical Trailer
Electronic Arts Game Trailer

Finally! Thanks, Escapay, for posting this information. I'm now happy with this news. Let's just hope that this is all set in stone, and that they don't change the information, again!

Now, to start saving for this, which is my most anticipated release of the year!

Yeah, and I'm really hoping the additional featurettes/documentaries mentioned on ezydvd are part of this collection as well.

I know, it's my most anticipated release too! $100 is a hefty price tag, but I'm sure Wal-Mart and Target will have it for around $75-$80.

This sucks why doesn't Superman: The Ultimate Collector's Edition have Supergirl: SE. Anyways Superman: The Ultimate Collector's Edition is very expensive and hopefully it will cost around $70 or $80 during it's first week.

Anyways I'm excited about this Collector's Edition!!!

Because Warner doesn't see it fit to even give Supergirl an SE in the first place. Grrr...

I might buy the DVD/HD-DVD combo disc of Superman Returns. That movie, along with Batman Begins, The Matrix and the Harry Potter films are the films that might convince me to upgrade to HD-DVD. But it's rather pricey ($39.99, and even with discounts it's still going to be pricey), and considering that I want the film sooner than waiting for the price to drop, I'll have to settle with the 2-disc SE.

And I think The Digital Bits is wrong on the fact that the DVD/HD-DVD combo will include all the extras from the 2-disc SD DVD on that. How can they do that when one side of the disc is a dual-layered DVD and the other side is a single-layer HD (which is half the capacity that dual-layer HD-DVDs get). But considering that the HD-DVD cover is the cover used for the 2-Disc Special Edition, I think they've managed to get those in.

The Tin looks great. This will probably be $70 or $80 on release day.

I wasn't planning to get the set, but with the price and the Donner Cut being included this will probably cost me the same as buying the movies I wanted individually.

Superman: 4-disc set SRP $39.99
Superman II: 2-disc set SRP $26.99
Superman II: Donner Cut SRP $24.99
Superman III: deluxe set SRP $19.99
Superman IV: deluxe set SRP $19.99
Total: roughly $132

But they'll likely be discounted to these at brick-and-mortar stores during first week:

Supes 1 $29.99
Supes 2a $22.99
Supes 2b $19.99
Supes 3 $14.99
Supes 4 - $14.99
Total: roughly $103

Ultimate Collection $99.99, discounted to $70-$80 during first week.
At 6 movies and 3 bonus non-movie discs, that's 9 titles which would make them cost a little over $9 a title.

Yeah...the Ultimate collection would definitely be cheaper.

Oh yeah, DVDActive has a boatload of new pictures of the cases, discs, and inserts. Really cool beans.

As Justin would say, "Holy Song of the South! Look at all those pictures!"

As if this release weren't exhaustive enough, DigitalBits posted the more accurate specs for Superman Returns:

Requiem for Krypton: Making Superman Returns (16x0 7 part 172-minute documentary)

Part 1: Secret Origins and First Issues - Crystallizing Superman
Part 2: The Crystal Method - Designing Superman
Part 3: An Affinity for Beach-front Property: Shooting Superman - Part A: Superman on the Farm
Part 4: An Affinity for Beach-front Property: Shooting Superman - Part B: Superman in the City
Part 5: An Affinity for Beach-front Property: Shooting Superman - Part C: Superman in Peril
Part 6: The Joy of Lex: Menacing Superman
Part 7: Wrapping Superman

Along with the documentary are:

-Resurrecting Jor-El featurette

-11 deleted scenes (16x9 - all finished and mixed by Singer)
The Date
Family Photos
Crash Landing/X-ray Vision
Old Newspapers
Are You Two Dating
Martinis and Wigs
I'm Always Right
Jimmy the Lush
Language Barrier
Crystal Feet
New Krypton

-Easter egg: How Wrong Can You Be? - Kevin Spacey's "Wrong!" outtakes

And the Bryan Singer Video Journals Disc in the Ultimate Collection is now called Extended Editions, and will feature 2 never before seen Journal entries.

Checked EzyDVD again, they've got the breakdown of You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman

You Will Believe - The Making of a Saga: (note the different title)
Forging the Man of Steel - Superman in the media, and the challenges the Salkinds faced
Creating the Vision - creating the right script, choosing the right director and casting the right actors
Believe - the production and launch of a new kind of fantasy film
Crisis - complications and conflicts between the creative forces behind Superman II
Downfall - criticisms and burnout of Superman III and Superman IV
Legacy - filmmakers, writers and artists reflect

Still no word as to which disc contains:

The Mythology of Superman
The Science of Superman
Remembering Christopher Reeve

Well, my fruitless quest for the 2-disc Limited Edition of Supergirl from Anchor Bay continues. Last night I was high bidder for a copy on e-bay that was only $36.00, and I went to sleep thinking I'd check again this morning.

This morning comes, and as expected, 30 seconds before the auction ends, a vulture flies down, places a $41.00 bid, and wins the auction. I couldn't really do much about it, what with being asleep and all, but I guess that's the way it is for an e-bay noob like me.

I'm about *thisclose* to just giving up trying to get a decent copy for under $50.

Yeah, with ebay, you don't even want to show yourself until the last minute of the auction, where you swoop in like a vulture. That's the only way to gaurantee a win. Used to be, you could rely on finding deals due to folks posting them with incorrect spelling, but they take care of that now for the most part. Anyways, I wouldn't give up. Try different ways of search for it. Some folks are lazy, and will only title their item "Supergirl." If you can find the DVD like that, some folks might not. Some may write it as "Super Girl." Little things like that can be helpful on Ebay in cutting down the competition. It's a longshot though.

Man, I want that big Superman set, but don't know how or when I'll have the cash for it!

Success!!!!!

I won a Supergirl Limited Edition auction!

Granted, I'll be paying $61.00 plus shipping, but that's better than the other deals I've been seeing there ($85, $122 buy it now, $90...).

I waited up until the very last few seconds, and put in just the bare minimum for a high bid, and thankfully, that's all I needed!

Okay, after this no e-baying for awhile, I need to take a break and actually keep some money on the side for the big superman tin.

Congratualations Escapay! You've just paid a huge amount of money for a DVD! :)

And as Escapay gets his dream come true, I get mine come true. Superman: The Movie will only have the Super-Pup pilot on!

THE ADVENTURES OF SUPER PUP
(Full Frame, PILOT) - TO BE FEATURED ON SUPERMAN THE MOVIE,
When submitted to the BBFC the work had a running time of 20m 37s

Yay! This really is something I've wanted to see for years!
