Discuss the changes to the new Treasures.

To me this is simply the proof that the people at Disney don't give a rat's ass about collectors. The first and second waves were true collector's items, embossed numbered tins, sturdy. Then comes the third wave with cheap light tins and no numbers. Now wave four, no blue bands, a crappy postcard on the back shoved in there cause they don't care and we get something that abslutely doesn't fit on the shelf next to the others. SO basically we weill have to take the caes out of the tins so we can see the spine ad figure out what the heck they are. So by doing that the tins end up in a box taking away the whole "collector's" part of the treasures wich I spent some mone on.

DARNIT DISNEY!!!!!

You know Disney don't give a "rat's" becuase they keep changing their collectors edition names. So really this is nothing new.

I really don't care. And don't blame Evil Eisner - its no different than Warners changing their Harry Potter films to Aramays, or their fantastic vintage 2 disc sets to Aramays. Or like Fox changing X2 to an Aramay when both previous X-Men releases were digipaks. Or Fox UK altering the X-Files packaging just to they can justify selling them at half the price (yeah, like a 6 panel digipak costs £35 to make).

I never kept those blue wrap-arounds anyways so I dont really care about that, but that's pretty cheap that they couldn't even print the contents onto the back of the packaging like all other previous waves. It already looks awkward since they dropped the embossed numbering on the tins earlier this year, why do studios always find a way to detract from a good thing? As long as the content is kept up to previous standards I wont complain, but it is a pretty stingy move on Disney's behalf and doesn't show much thought for us collector's whom these were initially intended for.


Whats the deal w/ the "white cases" Luke mentioned, I doubt they'd switch the actual amaray packaging... I can't imagine how using a different color keepcase would save on costs?

Well, it could be argued that if they didn't give a "rat's", then they wouldn't even bother going to the effort of gathering all of this material in the first place (Leonard is a cottage industry, after all!).

Having said that, I am disappointed at the low print-runs and change of style for this Wave. I do enjoy the aesthetic value of a matching set.

But as Netty wisely points out, this isn't the first time a studio - or indeed Disney - has changed their line in mid-stream, so I guess we should be thankful the content remains as good.

Money! Money! Money! - That's how they think. I just recently purchased some Disney DVD's, and on the back cover of the DVD's there was a sticker that said "Made in Mexico" . How much money do you think they are making on these DVD's, when you're paying around $23.00. You see most companies do not care about collectors - they care about selling their item to the masses. I'm just glad there are still releasing the treasure line - no matter how they package it. It's just sad that they keep getting cheaper in their methods.

As Netty said, this is nothing new, and I was expecting the changes a while ago, when I first saw the cover art for the Treasures without the wrap-around bands. Of course, its quite dissapointing. I wouldn't be suprised if Disney dropped the tins altogether in the future.

I'm not really that bothered about the tins anyway, I only keep them in the cupboard anyway! To be honest I'm so glad we are getting such good quality DVDs UNEDITED, I would still buy them even if the discs just came wrapped in old newspaper!

I don't really care about the tins although they are nice to have. I only started collecting the treasures during the 3rd wave. I ended up just buying the 7-dvd box set from the disneydirect.com of the 1st and 2nd wave (which do not come with tins). It saved me a lot of money from having to get on ebay and whatever and buy they all separately. I am mostly concerned with how the films look when I push the play button.

like Zombi6422 i have the 7 pack and so i have the other 4 out of the tins sitting beside the pack. the ony ones i have in the tins are the repeats.

Reminds me of my blue leather collection of Asimov books. They never finished it so i have some in blue and some reg HC :/

Lets hope they DO finish the Treasures series, tin or tinless!

The exact quality of the tins is hardly essential to me, but this does seem a bit... cheap.

The stuff about the cheap tins and the missing letter parts isn't new, many of us had that problem with the last wave.

Getting rid of the bands is just insane though. The bands are the only thing that hold the tins together when they're on the shelf. Some marketing idiot probably looked at the shrink wrapped tin, and decided they could save a hundredth of a penny in manufacturing by ditching it.

Guess I'll just have to print up my own.

I also would buy the treasures if they came in toilet paper. But it seems that Disney is using this fat against us, they think "even if we make them all crappy looking they'll still buy them cause they are Disney geeks" which is true. I bilieve Disney is doing the worst thing ever, using and cheating their most faithful consumers, cause the treasure buyers tend to be the isney geeks, us.

Umm, what? Last time I checked, my tins were staying together quite well without the bands, which I don't keep anyway. They're worse than the slipcovers - just silly extraneous bits of paper, and yet another step to opening to the whole damn thing. I dunno about you, but I think it's enough to pry the tins open without damaging them, then digging the double amaray out and opening its two separate sections just to get the discs, without having to worry about keeping track of where you left the silly band.

I'm in similar opinion to Paka in this. That's why after getting them out of the tins they stayed out, it was almost like the ritual to play an Lp , too many steps! I play them more if they're out. I put the tins with the bands as decorative pieces. Besides preserving my sanity and the packageing from wear and tear, having them outside the tins gives the illusions that I have more discs!

I suppose that for those that bands are essential, a custom band could be made on a graphics program and printed and glued toguether, it's not that hard. Maybe one of our custom cover gurus could make them
