Least Johnny Depp is closer to coming back as Jack Sparrow one last time.

Could this not have been one of those movies that Bob Iger "quietly cancelled" ...

This film has been in development hell for years. I don't see it ever happening. POTC was already on its way out with the fifth movie and that still had Johnny Depp. Now they can't even count on that so who exactly will be coming to see this without him??

And the most ironic thing is that Orlando Bloom even said the fifth movie was intended as a soft reboot (which is why it feels like a pale imitation of remaking the original movie) so now we're getting another reboot? :?

This Iger needs to go already. WORST thing ever that happened to Disney.

‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’: Jerry Bruckheimer Says Reboot & Margot Robbie Spinoff Both Might Get Made
https://theplaylist.net/pirates-of-the- ... -20240520/
“It’s two different movies,” Bruckheimer explained. “We hope to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”

Bruckheimer added, about the second film, “I think [Jeff Nathanson has] cracked it. He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.”
If neither of them are going to feature Johnny Depp, then aren't they both equally spin-offs? Or equally reboots, I guess?

It wouldn't surprise me that Disney might want to capitalize on Robbie's Barbie buzz.

That said, I can't think of a single person asking for either of these.

Q: What is the Disney project with Austin Butler you told last week?

Skyler Shuler: I have heard for the last couple years that Disney has wanted to work with Butler for quite some time and while Hercules was on the table, I heard that Disney wants him for Pirates of the Caribbean. Whether or not that happens is a completely different story.

Q: You know your fans now, they want you in everything. The latest is they want you in this Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. There's lots of talk about that. Would you be down for that if that opportunity arose?

Austin Butler: I loved Pirates of the Caribbean. I mean who knows? I haven’t heard anything about that. [...] I don't know. That's a hard one to touch because they did it so well. I love what Johnny did with that.

Why not both? :P

Personally, I think he and Dua Lipa in Hercules makes sense considering he worked with some guy she's been dating (Callum Turner, I think that's his name). That's what makes me think the Hercules rumors could have some truth to them. And honestly, the more I think on it, the more I think the two as the leads in that film could actually be perfect.

That said, I *could* also sort of see Butler in the POTC-verse in a way I couldn't with Robbie (could be wrong about that one, she is a good actress and all). That said, I just have a hard time envisioning POTC as being even mildly successful without the Sparrow character there. Butler would fill more of the Orlando Bloom-type lead, they'd still have to come up with someone to fill the Sparrow void. Plus, even if it were to be successful, would Butler be interested in a series with Disney or would a one-off remake like Hercules be more what he'd want? I don't see him getting tied down to Disney for a long period some reason, he seems like he's bouncing around to a wide array of projects.
