It sounds like he approached Disney to work on the film and not the other way around.
Miranda has also written songs for Mufasa: The Lion King, due to be released in December. The composer said he approached the project with “great trepidation” and given that the original film has “five songs, all bangers,” written by Elton John and Tim Rice, and has become a large part of the cultural zeitgeist. He was tapped to write six songs for the upcoming film, and said he wanted to join once he knew Barry Jenkins was directing the film. “That’s sort of like Greta Gerwig directing Barbie,” he said.

Dave Metzger, who scored Wish, is composing the score for the film. Lebo M. is the only original composer who is returning for the prequel. I wonder why the music team has undergone so many changes.

Disney has previously announced that Hans Zimmer, Nicholas Britell & Pharrell Williams were set to compose music for the film. Britell has reportedly starting working on his score, while Zimmer is believed to have dropped out of the project earlier before it went into production.

To be honest, Dave Metzger`s score for Wish was good. So I don`t mind him returning again for Mufasa. Despite how Mufasa and Wish aren`t comparable for their settings :P. But since Wish was a flop, it was remarkable how he got the job again, lol :P
