I didn't expect any of the songs from The Little Mermaid to get nominated, but not even make it to the shortlist? Ouch. I guess we had to endure LMM's "genius" for nothing. "This Wish" should consider itself lucky it got nominated for a Critics' Choice award. It's Disney's most underwhelming, lackluster 'I Want' song since "Almost There".

As much as it feels like self-inflicted injury to me to say this, but I'm glad Wish didn't make the list. Disney should never get invited to the party "just cuz," and I really hope this makes it clear to Disney and that Rice and Michaels absolutely are not a good fit for Disney and should take their talents elsewhere though.

I'm a little upset that we won't be seeing "Mermaid" at the ceremony (unless they somehow get nominated for VFX or something), though. I considered the film above the cut for their normal remake output, and I would have been fine to see the larger critical institution recognize this. If nothing else, Alan always deserves the attention.

Yet another Oscar nomination for Dianne Warren and John Williams in the Song and Score categories respectfully. I'm convinced branch members just see their names at this point and vote for them sight unseen (or rarher unheard).

John Williams is an exceptional composer for sure, but his work for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny isn't really that phenomenal, which is also said for the movie itself. Instead, give the nomination to Across the Spider-Verse's composer, Daniel Pemberton. His score heightened each and every scene in the movie, which is what it should do instead of just being there for the sake of being there, matching the tone and universe they go to. The score is so popular, it's even used in TikToks for all things. I'm really bummed that he didn't get nominated, and animation is still being disrespected. :(

Also, fully betting that "What Was I Made For?" will win the award because of the universal appeal of the song's message and Billie Eilish's reputation from winning the award before.

'The Boy and the Heron' | Scene at the Academy

Joe Hisaishi's score should've been nominated as well; if anything, he should've gotten an honorary Oscar for his compositions for most of Ghibli's movies. :(

I just know What was I made for will win :P :thumb: such a beautiful powerful song
Also i bet Emma Stone hopefully wins best lead actress, along with Poor things winning Best picture. Also Robert Downey Jr. for male Supporting role and America Ferrara for supporting actress (even if its just for the famous 1 minute scene of whats expected for woman and how they have to act, it was still powerful. Fingers crossed :woot:

Unsurprisingly, "What Was I Made for?" won Best Song and Oppenheimer won Best Score at the Oscars.

Diane Warren is back at it again. She faces competition from Ed Sheeran this year.

Well, her song is nice, but it doesn't matter how it is, she'll be nominated anyway. :P I used to think the quality of her songs was part of why she kept getting nominated and not just the fact that she's very well known and hasn't won the Oscar yet (a competitive one), but after last year I'm not so sure anymore. I don't think that song would've been nominated had it been written by someone else. I know you, Sotiris, already believed this a long time ago.

I'm curious to hear Ed Sheeran's song too. Other composers who, I guess, could have a chance this year are Stephen Schwartz with Wicked, Pharrell Williams with Piece by Piece, Alan Menken with Spellbound or Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will have a new opportunity to get his EGOT status thanks to Mufasa. I don't have much faith in Moana 2's music, but we'll see.

I would be surprised if anything from Mufasa got nominated; it seems like a big ask to get the Oscar voters to care about even a first remake, much less a remake sequel. Then again, it is Miranda. I would not have been surprised even to see "Scuttlebutt" getting nominated and giving him the Oscar, that's how obvious it seems that most of these venues are in his favor at times.

I would think Wicked will be the one making a splash this year, surely they'll pick a good original song for the End Credits (unless they're adding new songs to the story, too?) to bet on.

It's true that none of the live-action remakes so far has gotten a song nomination, so you may be right it'll be difficult for Mufasa to achieve so. I don't know if being a prequel to a remake is better or worse for its Oscar chances that being just a remake. On the one hand, it may seem more of a cash grab, but it's also an original story this time, so I'm not sure how the Academy will react to it. Lin-Manuel Miranda is also a new composer to the franchise, but I don't know if that'll help or not.

I read Stephen Schwartz had written new songs for the film adaptation of Wicked, but now I see the new songs might be included only in the second film that will be released next year. Though, I guess an original song for the end credits, like you said, it's still possible.

It looks like there's a new trend to turn musicians into animated characters in their biopics. First, Pharrell Williams and now Robbie Williams as well.

Someone recorded the performance. Here's the song. I think it's nice, but a bit conventional. I don't see it being nominated. Though, I've only listened to it once. It could grow on me.
