Looking forward to it.

The only downside I see for this is that the first film was SO inventive and brilliant—and unexpected (seriously, what little I’d seen in previews, I didn’t even want to watch it; the buzz is what made me force myself to check it out)—that they’ll have a hard time matching it, much less surpassing it. The audience expectations will be very high, a similar situation for Frozen 2 right now. My experience with this film reminds me of The Lego Movie, actually. I expected the worst and was pretty flabbergasted with how good both films actually were. (Spider-verse is better than The Lego Movie, just for the record.) The Lego Movie 2 had a similar let-down quality to it, even though it was still good, overall.

The teaser trailer is out. It looks really good, but I'm bummed it's a two-part film. I don't like it when they split a film in two and you have to wait months, if not years, to get the second half of the story.

I remember the filmmakers of "Into the Spider-Verse" saying they had a lot of ideas they were really keen on including in the first movie, but couldn't for time reasons. So it's likely the screenplay for the sequel got so massive and there wasn't a way to trim it down without losing important character development. So it's neat Sony is allowing them to turn it into one big two-part epic. I have a feeling this two-parter will be similar to the "Back to the Future" sequels, where even though Part II ends on a cliffhanger, they still feel like two individual movies with their own themes and concepts.

The problem with two-parters, with animated films in particular, is the chance the first part bombs and the second part is either thrown out and re-written for something else or cancelled altogether. It feels kind of dumb to me to make an animated film's sequel a two-parter whatever the reason... Something like Infinity War / Endgame only worked because they built up to that point for years. This doesn't have that level of inertia to support it.

Not to mention the 3rd [And, well, supposed fourth] Divergent movie Allegiant, which honestly ended up being in such a horrible situation on both ends of the spectrum: for one, they initially did not plan to have it be two parts, but got greedy and split it up into two parts, Which of course did not happen, and which either way was very atrociously penalized A.k.a. had all of its negative criticisms squarely being only because it Is deemed as being “Too similar”Etc. to other movies, once again amplifying a truly despicable and very ignorantly ignored truth of people acting like you have to have seen all the other movies that are similar to it, when there are those of us like me who have never seen any of the other hunger games besides the first one, but love The divergent series, And have no desire to ever watch any of the other hunger games. Whatever happened to film being subjective?

They changed the title of the two-part film. Part one will just be called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse now while part two will be called Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. They will be released on June 02, 2023 and March 29, 2024, respectively. A wise decision, if you ask me.
