Elemental
Re: Pixar's Elemental
I can do even better as I took pics lol. But here it is as a short summary:
Ember's parents run a shop in Element City which they want to leave to Ember. One day when she's in charge of the shop, she gets overwhelmed and causes a leak in the shop's basement. Enter Wade (who's a health code inspector) and issues her a ticket for code violations, which could get her parents' shop closed.
Ember rushes to explain the situation to Wade so he could rescind the ticket, but he already submitted it to his boss. Then they track this boss who tells them there's some major leak in the city, and if they can track the source, the boss will forget about the code violations and the shop will be saved.
So Wade and Ember go on a journey around the city, spend time together, find this leak and fix it temporarily. Then they spend more time together at the beach, Ember's powers melt the sand and turn it into glass -- this gives them an idea for a more permanent fix of the leak. The shop is saved.
Wade and Ember spend more time together, meet each other's parents. They play games and Wade tells her he cares about her. Wade's mom suggests she should become an intern at a glass-making company. However, her dad wants her to run the shop. Shenanigans ensue and she needs to choose between two paths -- she breaks up with Wade, but also her father gets angry and no longer wants her to run the shop. Ember decides to leave the city but while leaving discovers that one of the glass pieces she used to fix the leak broke off and now a flood threatens her family's home.
She gets back there, Wade also appears but they get stuck in the basement, and because they have nowhere to go Wade begings to evaporate/dies.
Her family helps her out of the basement, they make up, a single water drops from the ceiling, and then Ember remembers something from the time she played a game with Wade, speaks the words he told her then, and Wade materializes out of those water drops. They kiss.
Ember gets and internship at the glass-making company and leaves the city together with Wade.
Fin.

I hope it plays out on screen better than it reads.
No offense, Mooky. I’m sure that’s an accurate summary.

Pixar has also announced an original song from the film will be released this Friday. According to a critic who was at the Cannes screening, the song is titled "Steal the Show", it's performed by Lauv, written by Ari Leff & Thomas Newman (music) and Lauv & Michael Matosi (lyrics), and plays during the film and over the credits. You can listen to a snippet here.
Edit: here's the full song.

Re: Pixar's Elemental
^That's so stupid and ignorant. The female lead is Asian, the male lead is Black and the film is directed by an Asian person who based the story on his family's history. How much more diversity and representation do these people want in a single movie? Saying that the movie needed to center on a Latino family instead comes off as Anti-Asian prejudice. Asians can be immigrants too. They can face discrimination too. The movie doesn't need to feature Latinos to make its immigration metaphor work.

Re: Pixar's Elemental
I agree.
But sometimes these headlines just make me laugh these days. Like you said, they're occasionally ignorant of story details or who the directors are (since there's a sort of condescension around animation, people don't follow details of actors / directors so much with animated films) and so on.

New Japanese trailer which has new footage and features the song that will play over the end credits in Japan, which is a new version of a pre-existing song from 2009 by Japanese artist Superfly titled "With a Gentle Heart" (if the online translation is accurate).
Re: Pixar's Elemental
Ugh... I read Mooky's summary, and I am freakin terrified.
I'm still clinging on to the desperate idea that Pixar could have a comeback and make great movies again, but:
So this movie centers on the bureaucracy of not passing an inspection?? So this movie is, yet again, set in a fantasy world that seems to be be exactly like ours??? And it's about a girl not wanting to conform to her family's expectations for her??? Ugh... whatever happened to originality!??!?!
What happened to the days of Ratarouille, Wall-e, The Incredibles, Up...????
I was going to watch this movie... now, I'm not so sure.

Re: Pixar's Elemental
Interesting that this video is unlisted. I wonder if they are not confident in releasing these anymore.
Re: Pixar's Elemental
It's unlisted because it's an exclusive of this website. I posted a direct link to the clip because there wasn't any new info in the article. Usually, videos are first unlisted when they're exclusives of some site and only featured there during some days or hours, and later they're available on Pixar's Youtube channel and other places.

Pixar is truly amazing, and I’ve never seen so many research papers about a movie. Elemental was seriously big budget. Also, in the research papers I found another story element:
Here are all the research papers for Elemental if anybody wants:

Wonder what its significance is…In addition to the city, our film also has a unique flower called the Vivisteria that we see bloom. Our goal for the vivisteria was to create a flower that felt special and unique in both its final form, and during the bloom animation, but still maintained some recognizable touchstones of a flower.

From the storybook -- don't read further if you don't want to be spoiled:Woodrow Pride wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 10:38 am Pixar is truly amazing, and I’ve never seen so many research papers about a movie. Elemental was seriously big budget. Also, in the research papers I found another story element:

When Ember first discovers she can create glass out of sand, she makes an orb with a Vivisteria flower inside. Later on, Wade takes her to see Vivisteria flowers underwater (during this she's in a bubble created by Gale, Wade's boss), and her light makes the flowers bloom. It appears to be the romantic scene of the movie.

This is good seeing the score go up! Hoping it ends with a 85 - 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Re: Pixar's Elemental
The movie seems pretty educational about the elements so even if it underperforms at the box office, I could see it getting a lot of play in classrooms and after school care when the movie arrives on Disney+.
