Are we really gonna listen to a hit piece from an anti-Disney writer at CNBC who has been against Chapek since Day 1? I mean they don't realize or care to think that Iger, while he said he wouldn't do it, would have probably gone behind our backs and did it anyway like how he lied that he'd keep both Fox 2000 Pictures and Fox Searchlight alive when he only kept the latter alive.

Also, I wanna actually touch upon the fact that Disney+ is increasing the price of its ad-free tier by $3 for $10.99. Honestly, I’m ok with that. I would’ve preferred $9.99. But at least it’s $3 less expensive than Netflix and $4 less expensive than HBO Max, won’t be too expensive to buy now that inflation is going down after the passage of the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act), and will account for the amount of money going into new movies like the $150M reimagining of Pinocchio and new Star Wars series (like Andor, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew), along with new MCU series like Daredevil: Born Again. So, you can’t say Disney’s content looks cheap or that their price is too high when Netflix and HBO Max is higher, when Disney+’s ad-free price is better than those two and when they are now putting $30B in their upcoming new stories for #DisneyPlus next year to try and escape their cheap look. So if you want stories with better writing & CGI and way more money put into them, put your money where your mouth is and pay $11 monthly or $110 yearly for free Disney+. After all, beggars can’t be choosers. Am I right?

How did he lie about keeping Fox 2000 pictures alive? They still have 20th-century studios, but obviously have to drop the fox part for legal reasons? And Do they not still have fox Searchlight?

Disney is exploring a ‘Disney Prime’ membership program
https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/1/23332 ... g-explored

There's more info in the WSJ article (I'm not a subscriber but Chrome on my phone allowed me to read it even when the site wanted me to sign in as a subscriber to read...) but I took notes:

Disney Explores Membership Program Like Amazon Prime to Offer Discounts and Perks
https://www.wsj.com/articles/disney-exp ... 1661978329

"Discounts, special perks"

"working to enable" Disney+ members "to buy merchandise" "associated with some of it's shows by scanning a QR code on the service that links to the Shop Disney website"

A Disney+ member exclusive darksaber from The Mandalorian

Discounts to Disney Broadway shows

I watched the Disney Branded Television D23 live stream that ended a few minutes ago.

There is an upcoming show called "American Born Chinese," which looks really good, based on I think a graphic novel, dealing with "gods, heroes, and demons," The Monkey King, and "jumping between worlds.". Looks good. Live -action.

"National Treasure: Edge of History" has a 2-episode premiere December 14th.

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians" had a short clip, no date given as they're still in production.

"The Santa Clauses": Bernard is back! (That actor was not at D23 though, but Tim Allen was.). It's 6 episodes (Tim Allen called it "6 chapters.". 2-episode premiere November 16th.

Season 2 of "The Proud Family: Louder + Prouder" will premiere in February. There is a Disney Princess - themed episode, like a party with characters dressed as Disney Princesses!

"Moon Girl + Devil Dinosaur" (Marvel cartoon) premieres February 10th on Disney Channel, then "shortly thereafter" on Disney+.

New episodes of "Behind the Attraction" + "Sketchbook," if I'm not mistaken, and "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" (no dates given).

On November 20th, Disney+ will stream live Elton John's Farewell concert live from Dodger Stadium.

There will be a documentary called "Nadu" about a Nigerian boy named Anthony Nadu who is a dancer who had I think a viral video and I guess got a scholarship to a dance school in England.

"Growing Up" is streaming now, an inspiring documentary show executive produced (and partly directed) by Bree Larson, about kids growing up (duh).

"Choir" is like "On Pointe" but about a kid choir.

Disney Junior is getting a new Star Wars show called "Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures.". The girl who voiced Guilia in Luca is a voice in this. Yoda will be in this apparently. They did not show the trailer or clip on the livestream (they told people to put their phones away, too).

"Big Shot" Season 2 premieres on October 12th (all episodes).

There will be a new "Descendants" film, with China Anne McClain, Dara Renee, and Kylie Cantrell (I think that's her name; the girl from "Gabby and the Unsittables.". They will start filming next year.

"Raven's Home" has been renewed for a 6th season.

"Under Wraps 2" premieres on Disney Channel September 25th.

"Doogie Kamealoha MD" is getting a second season.

"Prom Pact" is a film premiering next year, starting Milo Manheim from Zombies and Elizabeth Peyton Lee.

I'm glad there'll be new episodes of "Sketchbook"! I really liked the first ones. And thanks for such a complete recap! I watched the beginning of the live stream up until The Proud Family: Louder + Prouder section, which has good animation, but I've never seen that TV series and this is the second season of the revival, right? After that, I checked from time to time to see if there was something I was interested in, but I missed that announcement.

Website Fightful is reporting that on the heels of their deal in Indonesia, WWE and Disney are expanding to the Philippines on November 17th.

The report notes that similar to the Indonesia deal (and the one with Comcast's Peacock in the U.S.), all WWE Network streaming content such as weekly shows, archival and original content and monthly PLEs (premium live events) will stream on Disney+ in the Philippines.

More Disney+/wrestling news.

Website Fightful is reporting that Marvel will be collaborating with Mexican professional wrestling promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide on a series entitled "El Origen De La Mascara" (English: Origin of the Mask), set for release on Disney+ on December 21st, 2022 (although it is currently unknown if the series will be exclusive to the Mexican branch of Disney+ or if it will be available globally).

Reports give the vibe of "El Origen De La Mascara" as being similar to "Lucha Underground," a promotion and TV series which ran for four seasons between 2014 and 2018.

Website Deadline is reporting that as part of a new content distribution partnership between the BBC and Disney, new episodes of the long-running science-fiction series "Doctor Who" will become exclusive to Disney+ outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland (where they will remain on the BBC's proprietary iPlayer service).

The deal will become effective in time for the upcoming trilogy of special episodes (set to air in November of 2023) that will see recently-renamed Fourteenth Doctor David Tennant regenerate into already-announced Fifteenth Doctor Ncuti Gatwa.

No word yet on if this deal will extend to the previous library of episodes since the show's 2005 relaunch (which currently are located on HBO Max), but this would presumably be the case.

https://deadline.com/2022/10/doctor-who ... 235154220/

In celebration of the announcement (and to bring new viewers coming over to the show via Disney+ up to speed), the official "Doctor Who" YouTube channel has posted a guide video in which incoming Doctor Ncuti Gatwa answers questions on what the show is about.

I LOVE Disney+, but one thing I don't get is, why dosen't Disney make new 4K transfers for the animated movies that aren't in 4K yet? Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Bambi, Pocahontas, Lilo & Stitch, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Treasure Planet and others? I mean, they have 4K masters for The Black Cauldron, The Sword in the Stone and DuckTales: The Movie, and these are not the most popular Disney animated classics. I know The Sword in the Stone was in a dire need of a new transfer. But why stop there. I know it's expensive, but I do think a company like Disney can afford it. Also, these are Disney's Animated Classics. It's not likely Disney will pull those from Disney+. So why not create 4K transfers of the rest of their classics.

I would have thought Chip n Dale would make the two movie lists since it was Nielsen's #1 movie for the week of May 23-29 and because of its Emmy Award win. Guess not. Oh well, I still hope it gets a sequel with hand-drawn animation over cel-shading.

At least The Clone Wars is still being watched a lot in the states, which is a good sign for Ahsoka on Disney+ in August.

Yay for Encanto and Turning Red! I'm glad Raya at least managed to track in the top 10--considering it seemed to land with a plop back at the beginning of the pandemic, I think that's actually an achievement. If only they'd make a TV series or something, it might give the film new life and encourage people to check it out who probably didn't know it existed. Probably the same thing happened with Zootopia perhaps (the Zootopia shorts leading people to watch the movie again)?

I'm a little bit shocked Hocus Pocus 2 is in the top 10 worldwide list but not the domestic. If anything, I thought its popularity might only be a U.S. thing, with less interest overseas? :o
