Very tough decision, I heard some good things about Masterpiece Edition, but I would say Plantinum Edition despite the fact that recent releases in this type were washed out

So is Collecter's Edition and Special Edition not included in your choices?

Cast my vote for Treasures.

Platnium would have been up there if they hadn't messed with Beauty and Lion from the originals.

on second thought, this is a more difficult choice to figure out because not all plantinum editions, collector's editions, and special editions are the same

It seem that Disney doesnt care about organization for the collectors anymore

Then again when was the last time Disney gave a damn about their collectors??

You forgot about the Vault Collection. Those are without a doubt my favorite, probably because they're just my favorite movies. But also the special features on the second disc are great.

1. Vault Collection
2. Treasures
3. Gold Collection

Treasures, no doubt.

That seems to me to be the only one of those banners that still actually means something.

The 2-disc editions of the classic features are good, but I have most of the materials already on LD - except, of course, the titles from the last few years that I'm not really that excited about anyway.

Anything that actually provides a good disc!!

We don't have the strict 'names' here, and they are completely irrelevant in the US anyways.

Snow White was a good disc, but the rest of the Platinums have been lacking. 'Alice' was excellent as well, but it is the only Masterpiece released thusfar. The Treasures have been patchy as well (in terms of extra content).

All the Release Types are simply names. What was Vault Disney became the Special Edition for a short time, and the content was pretty much on par (at least with 20, 000 Leagues and Love Bug).

Although the Treasures DO still stick to a formula, something like Donald had pretty much crap all in the way of extras so you could hardly call it a "good disc" by any standard.

The Mulan disc is being released as a Special Edition, and it looks good. But what if...shock horror...it had no label! We would all be forced to judge the disc based on something other that its (slip)cover!

GASP!!!

So really, my answer is none of them. They have all had good entries, but a good set is a good set. To me, Tron was one of the best discs, and that seems to come from a nebulous 'Special Edition' category, which covers everything from something with a trailer to a full-blown 2-disc set.

I think far to much emphasis is put on labels. The rest of the world has survived without a Disney label series, and the ones in the US mean nothing anyways.

Wonderfully stated, Loomis!

You're absolutely right that we give more thought to the labels than Disney. The one they've come closest at holding fast to is the Platinum line, but of course that's changing to two a year, and they really aren't a whole lot structurally different from other 2-disc sets (Alice and Mulan, for instance) that are merely "Special Editions." And after all, "Special Edition" is what they call the Platinum Editions first and foremost anymore.

I think that it doesnt really depends on the edition, is more the movies that are in it,the material it contains and how elegant they can be...

I could not agree more with you my friend :) . Honeslty I dont really care what line a movie might come from as long as it is god. Which why I never understood from the beginning why Disney has so many different realse types for the same movie that a few years ago were all the same on VHS. Which is why I am always asking why Edition it is in trying to figure out what is going through these peoples minds. So thats just me though :) .

I do have to say that I enjoy having a plethora of features to enjoy...mostly found on two disc sets. The strong point of the Gold collection is that the spines all match on my dvd rack! (Yes, I know, I'm shallow). It just looks silly for Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Lion king to have differently sized photos on the spine! All I ask is that the photos be the same size!!

Well, we've techinically only had 1 Masterpiece Edition but it was very good. But I have to say that the Platinum Editions are by far my ultimate favorite!
We need season sets of all DCOSs and all DCOMs on DVD! And Better Cover Art!
