the Tree surfing scene was used in the demo reel and looked amazing. glad to see its going to get a release.
Interesting. I've also found this:

"...we would be happy to share with the rest of our team that you would like to have this available on 3D for purchase!", to quote the Disney spokesperson.

You should respond to that e-mail Lnds500, and tell them that many Disney fans wants 90's movies like Aladdin, Pocahontas, Hunchback, Hercules and Mulan in 3D;)

Blu-ray 3D releases would work fine for me, I do not need the theatrical releases, although I would go see them if they came to Norwegian cinemas.
Favorite Disney-movies: Snow White, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, Tangled, Frozen, Pirates, Enchanted, Prince of Persia, Tron, Oz The Great and Powerful

This looks like it will an awesome thing to see at the cinema; worthy of the convserion. Much more so (in my mind) than something like Beauty & The Beast was ?

It's not the first time Disney have their facts wrong with what is coming out, or not, as the case may be.

Eh, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast 3-D were ok. Now, The Little Mermaid is gonna be in 3-D and if movies like Aladdin, Mulan or Tarzan are released in 3-D, same deal. I love all those films, but it it not worth spending all that money.

For someone who mentioned Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules being released in 3-D, not gonna happen since those films are considered disappointments compared to Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King in Disney eyes. Pocahontas has already a blu-ray release but no theatrical one. The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules will have the same fate.

Well I didn't think Tarzan was particularly loved either? I know through sheer scope it's epic, but I wasn't aware it was beloved on the same scale as BATB or TLK ?

Tarzan is considered a Disney classic. It received an attraction at Disneyland, has 2 direct to video sequels, tv series, and featured in a lot of video games. Plus it won an Oscar and its songs are well remembered.

The same could be said for Pocahontas, Hunchback, and Hercules. Pocahontas and Hunchback both had DTV sequels, while Hercules had a TV series and a DTV film that was really a collection of TV episodes (like one of Tarzan’s sequels). All three were nominated and/or won awards for their music. Looking at the Oscar’s, specifically, Pocahontas was a double-winner, while Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame were nominated. Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Hercules are also Disney classics, as much as the word "classic" is abused by the company's marketing.

That is sorta true. Hercules the TV series only lasted 1 season though Tarzan last longer. Tarzan received more sequels though compared to Pocahontas, Hunchback and Hercules. Also, none of those movies have attraction at any Disney park. Plus Tarzan did get a broadway show, while the others didn't. Yes Pocahontas did receive 2 oscars, but it doesn't high critical acclaim like other Disney films. Tarzan has very positive reviews while the others are either little positive to mixed to sometimes negavtive reviews. Tarzan and Mulan kinda helped get Disney back on track with its core audience because after The Lion King, Disney went through misses with there animated movies.

I think it's more than fair to say that Pocahontas is as much a "classic" as Tarzan. In addition to the reasons Disney's Divinity already posted, she is an official member of the Disney Princess franchise, though she's the least used, she was still deemed worthy enough by Disney to be put in there (regardless if it's for PC reasons) So she is still producing merchandise.

And though she doesn't have an attraction any longer at Disney (Her now closed stage show The Spirit of Pocahontas), she is still a popular face character at AK (In fact, I don't believe Tarzan has a meet and greet anymore). She is also heavily featured in Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios.

Also, Tarzan's Broadway musical was a massive flop, so I wouldn't count that toward it's success.

Now as for Hunchback and Hercules, yes no one can argue that Disney would like to forget about their existence pretty much altogether and doesn't deem them "classics" (in contrast to a LOT of fans).

In regards to the TV series, Hercules: The Animated Series had 65 episodes, whereas The Legend of Tarzan only had 39 episodes. Which I'm not surprised by, considering the Hercules series was much better.

This discussion made me look at RottenTomatoes out of curiosity:

The Little Mermaid ~ 90% based on 52 reviews
Beauty and the Beast ~ 92% based on 90 reviews
Aladdin ~ 92% based on 51 reviews
The Lion King ~ 89% based on 94 reviews
Pocahontas ~ 56% based on 50 reviews
The Hunchback of Notre Dame ~ 73% based on 49 reviews
Hercules ~ 84% based on 49 reviews
Mulan ~ 86% based on 72 reviews
Tarzan ~ 88% based on 102 reviews

There's a noticeable uphill climb to these things. Pocahontas is the only film with a signifcant drop--it wasn't very well-received, although its soundtrack received more awards than Tarzan. Tarzan and Mulan are both higher than Hercules by a couple of percentage points, but it's also worth noting that both Tarzan and Mulan have many more reviews to inflate the percentage. Tarzan did make more than the other 4 at the box office, however.

Tarzan in 3D? I didn't even know that Disney worked on a 3D conversion for the film. :? Anyways, I think it will look stunning, especially the scene with Jane running from the baboons. I always thought it was a visual spectacle, besides being incredibly funny.

Now, what other DAC would be next for a 3D conversion? Hmmm, (coughs) Aladdin (coughs)
Come on, Disney!!! Aladdin would look amazing in 3D!!!! Back me up, people!
I'm also very excited about The Little Mermaid, and I'm dying to see some poster artwork. I know it would be awfully soon, but I'm just so overexcited. :D
